PDP chairman, Ayu calls Tambuwal ‘hero of convention’ as Atiku pays thank you visit

Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, on Sunday, received a thank you visit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders and stakeholders.

Tambuwal had during the PDP presidential primary on Saturday stood down for Atiku Abubakar, a development, which eventually gave him victory.

Atiku had during the presidential primary defeated the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike.

Those who paid a thank you visit to Tambuwal, according to a short video seen were; Atiku and the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu.

Ayu was accompanied by the former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido; former Minister of Police Affairs, Adamu Maina and a former governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha.

A video of Atiku’s visit to Tambuwal’s residence, which was shared online, indicated that the former vice president was accompanied by Senator Dino Melaye.

Similarly, another short video clip, which was also shared online, showed Ayu patting Tambuwal’s back and saying” Thank you, thank you, thank you. You are the hero of the convention.”

The conspiracy against Gov. Nyesom Wike was of high level and 'conspirators' came from across the country. It had little to do with the Northern unity. The fact is that Gov. Wike's bully attitude as well as how he threw his weight around brashly as party financier and given his role in getting Supreme Court to retrieve PDP back from Modu Sheriff had become a source of worry and even fear to party bigwigs. They didn't want to take any chances at the primary. So, they prevailed on Gov. Tambuwal, whom Gov. Wike had tagged an ingrate in the course of his consultation with delegates, to step down and openly support Atiku Abubakar. Desperate calls were also made to some leaders to reach out to delegates. It worked.

If you consider the number of votes Gov. Wike got in spite of the 'conspiracy', you will understand that without that intervention, he would have pulled a surprise.

Well, Gov. Wike has himself to blame for his 'Putin-istic' attitude. Recall he disgraced and removed Uche Secondus his ally and brother as PDP chairman and installed Iyorchia Ayu. And things could get worse for him when his tenure ends. He might find himself completely outside the umbrella. Fortunately, Kwankwanso's NNPP is there to absorb Internally Displaced Politicians (IDPs) from both PDP and APC.

Iyorchia Ayu was Atiku campaign DG in 2007 election. PDP went ahead and made him party chairman without complain from other presidential aspirants.

Southern Pdp Politicians should have contested the party Chairman with Ayu as the party presidential ticket was thrown opened.

We advised them then but they wouldn't listen

In your wildest imagination, this is what the white man call crying over spilled milk, you would have advised Wike at the time he was insulting every body in the party, is Obi, or Obaseki, Tambuwal, Atiku, Secondus or the whole of the North who did he spare in his arrogancy, Wike almost single handedly brought Iyorchia Ayu, the main engine block of Atiku's political dynasty, as the national chairman of the PDP just because he was angry with his own brother, Secondus, now tell me, who are you blaming for his down fall

Udom and Anyim secured 38 and 17 votes respectively, while Atiku defeated Wike with 134 votes. Even if you put all the southern aspirants votes together, it's not even up to 300 votes, while Atiku got 371 votes.

I recalled Ayu during his campaign for the National chairman of the PDP. He said he would resign if a northerner emerged as the PDP presidential candidate.

Even if I don't really like the fact that Atiku won the primary, I still think it should be a lesson for Nyesom Wike.. You don't play bad politics especially to those from your region.. The Northerners have shown him how it's done.
