sliding windows also has its locks as well, reason why it's easier to access is when one side is left opened, it makes it easier for them to detach it from it's frame..but once it's locked from inside , it will a bit hard to get it off it's frame..

that's why the casement is better than the sliding windows. But there are some factors to consider in that situation, probably the lock was not properly fixed/ locked , just another reason to consider casement.. included in this response is pictures of the sliding window locks, fixing the locks is a factor to look at when installing a sliding window..it has to hook into that hang screwed to the panel to lock properly..I don't know if that gives u an insight to your curiosity sir. 2 factors to look at , can be either it wasn't Locked as they thought or the lock needs to be checked and adjusted properly
