kabe1:Maybe we should ask ourselves where would the S.Sudanese get the manpower to man and maintain 110 sophisticated equipment considering there had not been a training program for such?..at the time it's military was basically a militia plus . South Sudan didn't technically exist at the time since it wasn't independent. 110 tanks can support a huge number of infantry and since they aren't generally fast moving, where were the vehicles to ferry the infantry and the Tanks.? |

NTSA:A tank which is basically an armoured fighting vehicle designed for front line combat, with heavy firepower, strong armour and tracks to provide good battlefield manoeuvrability needs a certain level of operational doctrine which I think the south sudanese militias didn't have at the time. |

Any official confirmation to this news? It appears the issue of protected mobility is now taken serious. We might soon have one of the largest MRAP inventory on the continent

kabe1:They were meant for S.Sudan, Then the ship got hijacked by Somali Pirates back then, then the ships manifest was revealed to everyone by the pirates and it became an international incident... With Kenya risking being exposed for breaking an amrs embargo that had been put in place by the US on Sudan for supporting Bin Laden and Alqaeda , Kenya had to save face by pretending publicly that the tanks were meant for Kenya and not S.Sudan... So long story short, The tanks got stuck with us or is it we got stuck with the tanks ? The funny thing though is that the CIA knew that we were secretely facilitating the arming of SPLM (the CIA even participated in the training of SPLM on how to use these weapons) to enebale them defend themselves against khatoum govt in the fight for self rule but when it was exposed by pirates, the US threw Kenya under the bus, their state department was even considering sanctions against Kenya and Ukraine... But the US Congress investigation is what revealed the truth about US involvement, and in the end they had no choice but to develop selective amnesia and forget the whole thing. |

NTSA:The S/Sudanese ( then govt in waiting) got a waiting and listening ear with different right wing influences in the US . It became a rallying cry and so became a baseless Muslim vs Christian thing. Not that it matters KENYA has always bought her Tanks from the BRITS , so there was absolutely no reason ( it didn't make any sense ) logistics wise spare wise , training wise to start buying from IVAN. bottom line The T-72s were bought for the South- Sudanese because they were losing ground to the Sudanese due to the fact they had inferior armor or very little armor that could match. RECENTLY On Twitter there was a whole documentary on the Tank wars between the SUDAN and the S/Sudanese is it well done and well researched . |

Fynline:Buying is easy, maintenance is hard. I also noticed that you buy any MPRAP from anywhere and field it like that. I don't think you consider logistics support for these multiple vehicles during deployment, long term maintenance (spares, computer boxes, chips, sensors, etc) of these different types of vehicles. |

kabe1:I don't think that is the FLIR working, Rather the live event was transmitted via a secured network link. Just like how drone broadcast live footage to the ground station, something like that |

GreenandGold:Why do you think so? How did you come by this conclusion, and how many MRAPs does the Nigerian army field compared to any other country involved in active combat operations? |

LTGEN:I don't think there were still active conflict when the tanks were seized by pirates. Things were a bit stable in Sudan. Bush's tenure had ended after massive protests against the war in Iraq. Obama had just assumed office and had not developed a policy on South Sudan. Kenya was still a proxy by South Sudan to buy weapons as in the Bush era when the conflict was on. But due to anti war protests in the US and to prevent an arms race and possible renegation on the referendum which was already on the cards, Obama wasn't really in support. That's what caused the threatening of sanctions. |

Astertes:Nigeria is making MRAPs already, there's no need to buy them from a foreign supplier who could one day not give you spare parts should they get pressured by the West, unless your military bosses and politicians are currently getting kickbacks from overseas companies. |
| Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by kabe1: 12:40pm On Jun 03, 2022 |
GreenandGold:It would be naive to think military contracts across the world do not come with kickbacks. |
