You guys should take it easy with our local champions. F.G has withheld salaries since march.
mrphysics:

Yes bro. I was in the Tower yesterday.

I just dread Nigerian lecturers in whatever form they come except those that have an open mind or who knows what lecturing or teaching ought to be. The things I was mentioning to him is being done in South Africa, Indonesia, etc. Its not even like I was saying things that isn't real or being done.

The Prof. was just being destructive and vengeful yesterday. Things he ought to know which he doesn't know was what got me mad.

I think the professors or lecturers generally might be the problem. It's 2022 and not 1989... I was shocked when I got asked Navier Stokes. I'm in the energy sector and I'm talking about energy issues but you want to ask Fluid Mechanics and Dynamics. This has to be my worst interview experience ever

Good morning all,

I did my interview in Ibadan on the 2nd of June. I was in the Engineering group before 3 professors.

Firstly I was told to introduce myself after which they asked for my O levels, I saw them input my grades in Math, English, Physic, Chemistry and TD into their system.

They asked for my Bsc, MSc and Certifications.
My interviewers didn't seem to know much about Mechanical Engineering and/or my research area in particular they where more Petroleum inclined.

They were critical about having very recent reference citing and listing, asked about my decision to go abroad when I could do the Phd in Nigeria. It was quite seamless for me.

Hoping for the best.

*Note, we are all competing with people from out various states. If you come from a very competitive state, the competition would be very stiff. Just FYI.

Although I am an M.sc applicant but this is my advice to the Ph.D applicants, don't allow any professor or lecturer to mislead u from your research proposal. He is an expert in his field and so do u, this people might deliberately lead you away from ur work just to c how smart u are, we c this behavior during departmental seminars and research proposal even when the Lecturers present are in the same department as u, moreless of a professor who is totally outside your field what do u expect. So when they mislead u away from ur work just politely bring them back to the right track.
Wishing us best of luck all.

The old professor is actually right for debunking your research proposal. Even with a nuclear waste management proposal, how does it relate to the oil and gas sector. There is no radioactive activity in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria. Even if you want to use a radioactive stuff, who would fund it?
I am sorry to say but you didn't choose a great research topic for ptdf.
As old as the professor maybe, I totally agree with him.
A topic in petrophysics would have been better than a nuclear topic. Nuclear in oil & gas. Do you know how regulated nuclear activity in Nigeria?
I had a similar experience with an interviewer in 2019, he told me that a gas condensate is for undergraduate research. I had to add a modern technology stuff to it before he could believe me. I didn't get the scholarship.

The purpose of the interview is to know who is actually interested in studying in his/her respective field relating to oil and gas in Nigeria. Nuclear is irrelevant in Nigeria.

Don't blame the interviewer.
mrphysics:
I have to share my interview experience, it was bad, I mean very bad but wasn't my fault anyway.

So I went in to meet a 2-man panel. They were of course other panels having 3 persons but when it was my turn, it was the panel with 2 persons that were empty and had requested for an applicant. I was feeling lucky believing I had 2 persons to deal with without knowing it was a bad omen for me. grin grin grin

So they checked all my documents, everything was fine, I had everything with me, but not the panelist. So when it was time for me to present, all hell broke loose. I couldn't believe they were people in this generation and a professor in that matter that haven't heard of nuclear. The very moment I mentioned Nuclear (it doesn't matter how I want to apply the nuclear), he stopped me and said "Nuclear in this Nigeria??" The professor was a very old man with little or no knowledge of the current research. I mentioned the use of Monte Carlo Neutron Transport Codes, but he head of only Monte Carlo and chuckled, saying it was what they used 40-50 years ago shocked shocked Haba, Prof. Calm down and listen nah, but he wasn't having any of it.

I mentioned nuclear waste management, and cleaning of oil spillage, he interrupted me and questioned how can I be mentioning nuclear waste in energy management. He even questioned if nuclear has waste? Jesus, I couldn't believe what happened yesterday. grin grin It was very funny anyway.

So that was how it went yesterday. It was bad with Prof. But then you don't blame him, Prof. didn't believe Ajaokuta steel can work, he said I should forget about what the government was saying that its a scam and just a consultancy project. He was very proud, but I reminded him that the reason why Geregu powerplant was sited very close to Ajaokuta was to supply electricity to the plant. I told him everything he needs to be convinced but then, his mind was made up and I can't change that. Prof. didn't know that Nigeria currently produce 4000MWe of electricity, when I told him that he said it was not true, I told him to check the internet.

He said the only thing that the government should do is to produce energy from Gas, and that Gas is a clean source of energy. We went to Germany where he mentioned that they shut down all their reactors and I told him that they were importing 34% of their electricity demand from France, he said it wasn't true, I told him it was and that the internet is there for him to check. And now asked him what he thinks Germany will do now with the Ukraine Was and stoppage of the gas flow, he got the point anyway.

Well, it was bad with Prof. but the second guy was amazed though openly didn't want to disagree with Prof. manner, so when Prof. went to fetch his tea, we had a good discussion and he even told me to wait and greet Prof. before I leave.

In summary, it wasn't smooth but then, there is nothing to worry about. If I get it fine, if I didn't get it, next year, I will meet prof. again.

Fremaxx the Russian guy. I know say na Russia influence you to give ptdf the "Nuclear" topic that year wink. And they knew you will be very good in the field because u studied in Russia, yet they couldn't give you the scholarship. To me, I think Nigeria has not gotten to the nuclear space yet that's why they keep rejecting such topics.

I remembered you told me you and the interviewer dragged it to the core. You see ptdf ehn, they are very unpredictable. Until results are out before one can really know what they want.

Well, the professor I met during my interview is very friendly and have pool of knowledge in the area of my proposal. In fact, the other industry base personnel is more friendly than the professor. We chatted deeply on my proposal which has to do with the development of hybrid intelligent model for monitoring oil and gas pipeline. They graded all my credentials, I wish I could see my score then. However, we expect a favourable output at the end.
After everything, the woman told me that I'm unimaginable, she then asked, do you know the meaning of unimaginable? I replied no ma'am. She said that means " when you meet someone and expect he cannot perform up to an average but by interacting with him you find out that he perform even above excellent". I then smiled and say thank you. And that marked the end of my interview.

You mustn't comment or respond.

First you don't know what my topic is about or the proposal. Secondly, PTDF doesn't fund or support only oil and gas topics.

Lastly, you should know that oil exploration releases radioactive elements from the soil and also that some radioactive elements are used in drilling and contaminate the environment.

A simple google search should show you that the communities in Delta States close to oil fields are all contaminated.

There are statements we shouldn't be making.

During my studies, I took a large course on thermohydraulics that I could come up and defend it in the interview knowing Nigerian is not yet very advanced in such topics. PTDF is all about getting a topic, linking it to the oil and gas and defending it. But you defending it depends on the people you are presenting to. If they are clueless or have a closed mind that they can only listen to one topic, then irrespective of your knowledge or effort, it will just be a waste.

Hi guys.

I was earlier slated for interview on June 3rd, but the link came with June 2nd while portal says June 10th.

I've had my interview already yesterday but now I received 2 invites again with different times for Monday June 06. Do I need to attend again?
Hope if I don't attend they won't mark it as being absent from the interview?

No, you don't have to wait till 10th June as it's very risky since that day I believe is the last day of the interview. Start using the link today from 5pm and see if you'd be attended to since it came with no date.
