APC Convention: Osinbajo May Step Down For Buharl's Preferred Candidate by NaijaCowFarm: 3:36am On Jun 03, 2022
As the APC convention date approaches, there is a strong indication that VP Yemi Osinbajo may be stepping down for the president's preferred candidate. Buhari had asked APC governors to support his desire to pick a consensus candidate. Though most governors are scheming to have their preferred aspirant fly the party ticket, there is a strong indication that the APC may have jettisoned the idea of power shift to the south after all. Initially thought to be the president's preferred candidate, the emergence of Atiku Abubakar changed that calculation. The Northern APC governors fear that only a strong Northern candidate could share the votes from the North with PDP. This effectively ruled Osinbanjo out of the equation.
As for Asiwaju Tinubu, the die is cast. He has been shoved out of the race, but he seems to be banking on the likelihood of a primary with the president's preferred candidate. However, there are also indications that PMB vowed to handle APC with a "strong arm". to use his exact words, "As I begin the final year of my second term as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and leader of the Party, I recognize the compelling need for me to provide stronger leadership to the Party under this transition process and to ensure that it happens in an orderly manner". The president then ended his speech thus "... govs were given re-election tickets or allowed to choose their successors..." and so, " ...I wish to solicit the reciprocity and support of the Governors and other stakeholders in picking my successor, who would fly the flag of our party for election into the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023".

The above statement effectively sealed Tinubu's fate, Why, because if a primary is held today without the president anointing his candidate, Tinubu would win, however, Buhari is not out for any primary, hence his desire to pick his "successor". There are however insinuations that Tinubu may go headlong with Buhari, which would be disastrous to the APC national leader. If Tinubu tries what his followers are pushing to, including leaving the party, Buhari will be ruthless toward him and his amassed wealth.

Tinubu is already out. He may head to SDP but would mean going head to head against Buhari and it is dangerous.

A little taste of what would happen to Tinubu without Lagos tax money would put him in his rightful place. He will even campaign for the preferred candidate, Buhari is only giving Osinbajo a soft landing by asking him to support his preferred candidate.

Just watch the next 24 - 48 hrs and see the political intrigues. I never knew Buhari was also a strategist!!!

instead of osinbajo stepping down, let tinubu kuku step down, because head to head, tinubu cant compete with atiku. Apc need a strong candidate to counter atiku.

A ruling party President is meant to be uninterested in who emerges as the presidential candidate of his party.

After the candidate has emerged, he is expected to wholly support the candidate the party members/delegates have chosen.

Even if the deputy of the President is also an aspirant, the President is totally neutral and would never endorse any of the aspirants.

That is the way it is in the USA with their marathon year long presidential primaries.

So Buhari will be ruthless against a citizen exercising his constitutional rights to contest an election. Ha ha.

You think we are in the military era.

Any attempt to arrest Tinubu before 2023 elections will throw APC into such turbulence that, they won't even try it.

That'll be the end of APC as a national party anyway a the SW will vote Atiku massively.

Unfortunately, we are not in USA. In Nigeria, Tinubu himself has been imposing candidates in Lagos since 2007. All the governors imposed their

preferred candidates, sitting governors got their way, why would it be different with the President.

Lets assume Tinubu gets the APC ticket and wins and serves 8 years, do you think that Tinubu will not impose a successor? You heard him

say, "after I rule for 8 years, I will hand over to a strong younger man to continue". What does that tell you of his plan?

Yes Obama was neutral, just as Bush Jnr was neutral to McCain emerging for the Republicans in 2008.

There is a long history in the USA of such neutrality, because the President cannot dictate to the party members who to vote in their primary.

Within the next 24 to 48hrs, Nigerians will know PMB preferred candidate. Trust me there won't be any need for APC primary election.

We have seen that of PDP flag bearer and patiently waiting for APC. One thing is certain,

Is either Peter Obi wins or Peter Obi becomes the President come 2023

osinbajo would step down for buhari candidate not may

He has served 8 years under buhari that's enough gain, it's too much asking for 16yrs

Buhari would like him to retire with him that's what real loyalty is

Because osinbajo was only brought to balance the islamization cries by christian voters

He would be bad market to core north as a pastor when they even contemplate voting southernern

It’s all rubbish. Buhari will be ruthless with his wealth? Was Buhari there when Tinubu was making his wealth? Does Buhari know how Tinubu made his money? Did Buhari not benefit from his money? And is Buhari a dictator? Do we not have laws governing elections and party primary? Does Buhari knows that he can even be impeached within a year?
