Thank you very much, apart from feeding which is 25k weekly,
We have other budgets, such as fueling which is 30k monthly for the car
genetor we have 15k set aside, and PHCN is 20k
we also have emergency 50k which if we do not use, we carry over to the following month.
Then for the laundry, we have extra 12k for that, because sometimes we engage dry cleaners.

How old are your children? This would determine their needs. For instance, a child of less than 1 would require more financial attention than a child of 8.


Where are you based? This would determine cost of living. The cost of living in the North is far cheaper than the cost of living in the East.



Finally, I would advise that you buy things in bulk. Buying in bulk is cheaper and saves you from this overly and ever increasing inflation rate. If your children are youngsters, buy diaper in bulk. There are people who sell cereals in bulk too ( like painter of milk, cornflakes, golden morn, bournvita, oat and so on) and even pasta too. Find one in your location and buy these things in painter as against tins. Then again, you still have to mise usage so excess availability is not mistaken for excess wastage.


Buy rice, beans (store in dry jerry cans and pour some dry pepper and bay leaves), palm oil and vegetable oil in bulk. Buy beans when it is cheap(December) and palm oil when its cheaper too.

Eat Apples when they are in season. Switch to Mangoes if the former is out of season. Eat yams when in season, switch to Irish and sweet potatoes if the aforementioned happens.



If electricity is stable, cook three to four variety of soups, stews, sauces and store in the freezer. With a little tweak, each serving would taste better and fresh.


Buy ugu when in season, air dry and store for when it would become expensive. Do same for Afang, pepper, ewedu, okra...


Process tomato mix and store in a cool dry pantry for use when it becomes expensive.

Guy somethings here are exaggerated but to be fair 25k a week is okay and your wife is mismanaging, hope your wife won't kill you one day. What works for me might not work for you, study her and her circle.

Like me I use to have everything in the house carton of fish and turkey, and foods stuff but my wife will give everything out in few days no food stuff then I had to change but it's costing me.

Why not just have a heart to heart talk with your wife and see how she can help you manage things

Doesn't she contribute anything, if yes then she can add whatever she needs to increase the allowance

I have setup two businesses for her which she mismanaged, but am trying to push her into importation again to see what she will be able to make out of it. I have lost several millions in setting up busineses for her without sucess, most time I even try marketing for her.

Not everyone will understand the nitty-gritty of importation and a lot of times, you are importing goods for a specific target market.
Sometimes, you make more money from the easy, everyday buy and sell.
You can set up a retail or wholesale shop where she sells everyday items. Drinks, packaged foods, food spices, sugar, laundry agents, hygiene products etc.
Do your market research. She can buy from distributors and warehouses located close to/within the markets and sell as a wholesaler. She will just need to be in a good location with foot traffic. Everyday, simple items.
Forget all these online talk of importation. If you can do without the pressure of forex, please do without it.

My family is five as well,things are very costly in the market but what I do is that I go to market once in 2weeks,and some of the things doesn't finish till next 2or 3 months so it reduces the cost when I'm going to market next time.
I buy everything I will need to cook till the next two weeks except fresh vegetable.
Please discuss your wife to know how you people can manage.

Hot chocolate half paint
Milk half paint
Spaghetti 1 pack of 20
Palm oil 5ltrs
Groundnut oil 5ltrs
Indomitable 1 carton
Yam
Potatoes
Beans
Rice
Maggie
Spices
Bread
Onions
Crayfish
All these buy I bulk and keep at home,and also cook 3 different types of soups and stews and stocked in the freezer.I also did pap too and stocked in the freezer.
Discuss with your wife and buy things in bulk this way you will not be going to market all the time.
All these I listed above 50k can buy them.

Rice,oil, spaghetti, indomie and beans alone will almost finish the 50k.

@op, except we are just deceiving ourselves, if you want to eat better and good, that amount is not too much for a family of 5.

Even if you buy things in bulk, you will still need to spend around 3k - 5k for a soup that will finish in 3 days. Calculate that in a month and remove from 100k. Remember she will still get eggs and provisions for the children out of the money.

Things are just too expensive in Nigeria.
