My position is not new about our coaching but right now, Arteta should be allowed to get the players he wants.

I don’t think Arteta can manage Guen, we know his disposition about certain type of players. There is no need trying to bring Guen back only to end up on the bench or banished from the first team because he is opinionated.

You have to understand that Guen has a lot of things going for him right now. He is making the Les Bleus national team and if he continues will be at the World Cup. He is going to play in the UCL next season, which means more exposure. He is playing in his homeland and is very comfortable with his manager, J. Sampaoli who has helped Guen mature and get better in expressing himself on and off the pitch.

So, why should he leave all of these positives and stability to join Arsenal in the EL, fight with coach when he chooses to air his opinion, get benched and then lose out on making the World Cup? You have to remember he is no longer that 19 year old we signed from Lorient. He now has a lot of experience and that comes with even more voice.

Baba that ship has sailed. I hope we can find 2 quality midfielders and a good striker, we can’t field the same quality in both positions like we did last season.
Lol this case dey pitiful. I almost went to buy spectacles to improve my eyesight after seeing the way people attacked the boy when he was in the EPL.
Looked like a can’t miss talent to me that just needed time to mature and a bit of luck but people that watched him on a daily basis said he was no good.
I don’t see why he would want to come back. Chance of making the World Cup squad and also Arsenal fans weren’t too kind to him.

Then the board are not working
Guen was better than all our midfielders except partey last season.
I use to be one of his critics but he has really improved
He's now a regular in the French team, this arteta will ruin us eventually.
We now release players after investing heavily on them even bellerin is telling us to release him so that he will go to betis permanent
Same thing florentina wan try with torreira, that guy sef we can still use him

I feel if we get all óur loaned midfielders back and we invest heavily on strikers and wingers we will move weight
If Arteta does everything you say, Guen aka Jerry curl would have been sold for peanuts two seasons ago. Stop making noise here biko.

The problem is that people don’t think of future but like everything now. I am one person that always believes in giving a young footballer a chance especially if the talent is there.

All the things that seemed difficult to McTominay for instance appeared to come so easily to Guen whenever I watched him, and those things are the basics of playing CM.
Knowing where to move to to receive the ball, ability to receive the ball on the half turn, passing the ball to your full back just in front of him so he takes it in his stride rather than passing it straight to his feet.

The mistakes he made like romancing the ball too much like breast, petulant fouls, poor defensive positioning were errors that he was bound to eliminate or reduce from his game with increasing experience.

But I watched him only occasionally and had to conclude that those who watched him regularly had more data on him. The truth is that the guy is still going to keep getting better for the next 3-4 years unless he has bad luck with injuries or his attitude is off like Adrien Rabiot.

I aligned with this thought too, The Money spent on White is just damn too much.. A good coach would have turned Dino and Saliba to a Gem.. White is good but not super exceptional talent that will improve a whole team like V.dijk.
I could still agree Arsenal needed Gabriel.

Honestly, with the right coaching team and good footballing environment, players do develop and get away with those errors..

I was reading how old was Mbappe when he started giving in A performance. They don't know not all young players hit it big in their teenage years, some develop and become very good.

Chelsea and Madrid are trying to hijack the deal. If we don't sign him today/tomorrow then it's over.

As par your dream, it is good and hopefully so.

But, right now what Nigeria needs is not a northern president but southern especially from SE. This nation is too diverse to be playing politics with. A northern president will cause more separatist agenda from southerners and the centre will not be able to hold.

There will be mutiny in the army, and the nation will dive into the ocean of chaos.

Vote Peter Obi for one Nigeria.
Good morning Bro

Maybe I should refer you to my handle kbs468 for further reading on Politics or Political threads as I had once elaborated on this SOUTH EAST "MAXIM" in quote as it's exactly the same clamouring that ATIKU ABUBAKAR stands on as well because he is from the North East that is yet to taste power at the apex level or cadre of the Presidency of the federal Republic of Nigeria before unlike the North West counterpart just like the 3rd region in line too suffering the same fate-North Central

Sometimes we can only wonder why Arsenal as a club remains struggling to get back to the apex of footballing heights. Manchester City already won the league and imho are even almost done with their transfer business and will soon focus on pre-season plans in a bid to ensure continuity of success. Even spurs are showing serious signs by tying down conte and wasting no time to approve funds for his transfer plans which they have already begun and finalized some deals.

Alas , Arsenal albeit given the circumstances managed to finish fifth are still dilly dallying in transfer plans. We have yet to even nail down any prospect amidst uncertainty of funds at hand or not. This leaves little or less to be desired and one can not be optimistic going into the new season even though as fans our hearts want to believe.

Sometimes you wonder if truly the people at the helm want this club to move forward. Serious clubs after a disappointing campaign immediately move to correct their errors and ensure success in the forthcoming season depending on the targets set.

But I'm just struggling to see any signs to see that seriousness at arsenal right now. We have not even come down to technical and tactical improvement on the pitch which is still clearly lacking.

Phew!!!! Hope it's not another long season all over again.

So let's talk a bit on tactics.

Watching this Arsenal side for most of the season and majorly throughout Arteta's reign so far, it's hard to see where the ideology lies.

Are we a pressing team or do we want to contain.

A proper press ensures that the motion of all attacking and midfield players are channeled in a synchronized manner towards the opponents ball retention or distribution area. This motion automatically ensures that at the time the opponent makes that pass to the receiving player, all our players aforementioned have already closed down every option that the receiving player has to distribute the ball to.

I have watched enough of this current side to conclude that the pressing is poor. Is it a case of personell or a case of the coach ? I'll let us answer those questions

As per containing, in my own analogy and how I have played the game, you can contain in three areas of the pitch . The attacking the mid and the defensive third of the pitch where you have all your players in a defensive formation spread across and then shuffling from one end to the other whilst maintaining the defensive shape.

One thing no team wants when containing is to be doing it in their own defensive third. This is a recipe for loss as it becomes more difficult as the game goes on to escape without conceeding.

Unfortunately this side tends to find themselves trying to contain teams in the defensive third more than often which is no surprise in the reflection is some of our results even against lowly teams .

Again I'll leave it to us to debate on if this assessment is true or not and what could be the cause and probable solution .

This is what I foresaw and said here on last match day.
That Arsenal will frustrate the fans in the Transfer Window...
At the end they will bring in a fanciful player to appease the fans... the truth many won't like is,Utd and Chelsea would eventually spend and strengthe their teams.
They'll keep spending and getting active till they get it right.

I don't think the problem is due to lack of fund or unwillingness to buy quality players. I read somewhere that Edu and Arteta have a budget of 160M to play with.

I think our main problem is due to the fact that we missed playing CL. The teams who qualified are also in the market, and these quality known players will pick them ahead of us if they have a choice.

The dust will soon settle for us when the big boys leave market, then EL teams will become the prefer bidder. Just hoping by then there will still be enough qualities in the market.

For example, If Madrid and Chelsea sort out their CF problems without Jesus, I'm sure he will have no choice but to consider us.

I discussed this issue last week and it all boils down to our "Purchasing Power". Purchasing power in terms of allure, not financial power in the literal economic sense but why should these players join Arsenal in comparison to other teams. The consequences of not making the top 4 is biting us really bad. You have to also put into consideration that the World Cup is this year, that means, players want to play at the highest stage so they can make a case for their inclusions in the team that makes the WC. Speaking of purchasing power/ allure, can I ask, what is our style of play? can our style attract players? IMHO, we do not play attacking/ enterprising football and that plays into the allure for prospective players. Infact, I can not definitively tell you I know our style but I can tell you it is not attacking football.

Recently, we have become quite slow in the construction of our team, transfer dealings and have gone into the start of the season still trying to trim or build a roster. Consequently we endure slow starts because of a lot of uncertainties when it comes to who is staying, who is leaving, who is going on loan and who is even joining the team. Ironically, before the end of each season, we already know the areas we need to improve upon but by the start of the new season, we have not done anything tangible. I remember when I talked about missing out on Conte, I was reminded we have Arteta who is good but guess who had the last laugh?

Nice analysis and input. Such debate and discussion like this is really needed here once in a while.

Lemme chip in my own opinion on Arteta's Arsenal's tactics this season.

Arsenal this season off the ball relies on front pressing with the front three attackers starting the press. Tho I call it zonal press cos from my observations, the front 4(Odegaard inclusive) tightly press only when opponents transition and progress towards their zone. This is the reason why arsenal mostly recovers ball through 2nd balls in midfield. Arsenal off the ball pressing is intense in midfield area with presence of Partey's ingenuity which helps in interception as well as tackles.

In terms of attack, we rely on Partey acting as a link between Midfield and attack. His half turn, effortless dribble and quick transitioning of Midfield ball to attack is top notch, not forgetting the ability to evade intense pressure easily. Odegaard who's the most advanced of the midfield 3 is also important cos of his creativity and understanding with Saka(who's another creative lynchpin). The former understanding of half space and picking pocket of space is mostly underrated in this team. Xhaka tho advanced acts mostly as a recycler in the team. He seems more of a DLP in advanced position as well as stopping attack high up before it becomes serious.

CF under Arteta role is more of a false 9 role than an actual CF. Drops deep, helps Midfield to create numerical advantage while drifting more to the left hand side of the attack as against right due to linking up play more with his left sided attacker who is lacking a linkup partner as against the Saka who has one in Odegaard.

Fullbacks overlap and/or underlap depending on where the ball is at the part of the pitch. Tierney underlaps when Tomi overlaps if ball is at the RHS of the pitch and vice versa.

Since all defenders and Midfielders are good passers on the ball and can easily evade pressure (with the least being Xhaka), it aids in us having possession and dominance with Partey pulling the strings from deep while Odegaard and Saka pulling the strings up front. Intense dominance sees the defence push higher up as we tend to choke opposition. This is the main reason why we have one of the best first eleven but poor supporting cast

Thing is for this tactics to be sustainable In the long run, we need someone of Partey's quality who can screen the defence as well as push attack as he does(cos he acts like 2 in 1) or Partey himself staying fit throughout the season. Bissouma is my obvious choice. Elneny tried but his limitations was still visible and we weren't so good in maintaining dominance except If we intend to play deep.

The 2nd solution for long term sustainability is another Midfielder that's creative as well as being a goalscorer who is positionally good. This will make goals come from Midfield and opponents not feeling secure that if our attackers are caged then there's no hope of we equalising. It also helps to stop the panic of Arteta always removing defenders for attackers and CF around 50-60 something minutes in hope of finding an equaliser.

It might be a long read but I hope it's worthwhile cool

Thing is even if the dust settles, will there be quality enough for us? I'm not sure and I don't think Jesus will be available if he prefers UCL clubs to us

For we to excel in this transfer window, we should cast our nets on the Tomi of this world. Players who are hungry to go to top clubs from other leagues, relatively unknown and are very very good. Such players also should be able to enter into the first team or fight to enter the first team.
They abound everywhere, Liverpool are very good at that.

If we can work on that, we won't be thinking much about this player rejecting us and that player rejecting us

I agree with you here 100%. If I have just 1min to speak with Edu and Arteta, it's exactly the advice I will give them. Chasing these established stars can be frustrating.

During Wenger era, we rarely go for established stars, rather we make them and showcase them.

I'm hoping this unknown Marquinhos might just be another Tomi.

The risk factor here is the impatient of fans towards non established players. Especially in the CF department... Many times we want quick results and unable to wait for them to adjust and fit in, especially when we are losing matches. We were lucky with Tomi who just came and fits in immediately. Many managers look for experienced and established CF first with a new talent as backup in other to reduce the backlash when things are not going well, else the fans will accuse the manager and the club of being stingy.

Between north and south, it's the south. Within the south it's the south east. Hence my claim.

Good evening brother.

Sod is better than those who will twist the truth, even if you win UCL and World Cup, they will find a way to still downplay your success and paint you bad.. you'll soon see them cheesy
Sod can be honest at times. But he knows how to drag issues. He nicknamed the guy Jerry curl, he nicknames all the players he dislikes. He even uses the alias as if they were official, grin and we even unknowingly flow with it. Now that I have him on his blokos, I will not free him. I must press his balls, hard. grin

I sincerely share your fears. But there is still time. I feel, the club due to the lack of CL attraction are waiting for the big boys to complete their shopping before picking up any quality left. Hopefully we will find one or two. I also hope work is ongoing behind the scenes. Fingers crossed.
