Yea. My bad. It's been long I've given much thought to US fighter crafts asides from the usual F-16s, F-22, F-35.

Yea it's F-18E/F Super Hornet.

I was thinking about the F-15 Eagle. If it's against the Eagle it is well matched in comparison with Sukhoi Su-27/30 Flankers but slightly outmatched against Su-35 super flanker.

I don't see the Hornet or its Super Hornet enhanced variant beating even the old Su-27.

Well, maybe it's cos of my love for military equipment and weaponry. The main reason I joined nairaland in the first place. It's slow at first for peeps who ain't interested in that stuff. But it's gold for enthusiasts.

Which may be why today every branch has their own air support. F14 Tomcat (navy) was designed for an air craft carrier. It can fold its wings it can be catapulted. Fa/18 is marines and is capable of vertical takeoff. The army has the a10 warthog, which is celebrated to this day as a superior air support aircraft

I guess its a case of if it ain't broke just tweak small, esp as the F22 raptor has been a burgeoning budget Shitstorm if I recall.

I think I read that they keep upgrading the avionics of these fighters.

The A10 Warthog is an old warhorse now but it was and is a dependable air support Workhorse. It woulda been perfect for Nigeria's COIN war. That it's Gatling gun would be terrible for terrorists.
The Army or marines just seem to move with a different doctrine these days and have refused to upgrade or advance it's systems as they do with this vaunted fighters.

How this wan take happen? F-14 vs Sukhoi. Which Sukhoi fighter by the way? Su-27, Su-30, Su32 or Su35?? There is no way a Tomcat is touching any of those fighters in a dogfight or otherwise. Advance avionics or not.
