Cut the Nigerian youth some slack. They’re only a product of the environment in which they were brought up in! And who has been the moulder of that environment if not the same greedy, selfish, visionless and tribalist political elite….some of whom were running the show after the white man left in 1960, and who are stubbornly still around calling the shots till today! They forget that when they took over from the white man in 1960, that they were in their late 20s and early to mid 30s, yet they insist on still hanging around and spoiling things for the future generation!

A country’s youth can’t raise above the values and educational environment bequeathed to them by the adult political elite, and this is why it appears the Nigerian youth is not doing as well as they should! You and i know the state of primary and tertiary education in Nigeria from the 80s when the rot set in till today, so it’s no surprise our youth generally turned out the way they are! Of course there are flashes of brilliance even amongst the rot, and these ones are the saving grace of what otherwise would have been a hopeless case.

Many would agree that the white man left a better standard of education for the Nigerian youth by the time they left in 1960, and it’s this solid educational foundation that bred the likes of Zik, Awo, Soyinka, Achebe, etc! Remember that YouTube clip of that 1957 debate held in the US, in which the 16 year old Nigerian boy was the star of the show? He was a product of Igbobi College!

I'm an under 30 my dear , but I cringe at the naivety of my mates in regards to socio political related issues .... I personally know quite a lot of youths doing well in technology. But coming to social media the impression i get is a band wagon distraction.

What a senseless and thoughtless post. The youth of those days had solid education funded by the state or the mission. Education truly is power. Youths of yesteryears were empowered. Those days, those who attended Grammar Schools ilke Abeokuta Grammar School, Ibadan Grammar School, CMS Grammar School Lagos, DMGS Onitsha, etc., as well as Colleges like St Andrews Oyo,
were intellectually empowered and successfully competed with their age mates globally. Hence Bola Ige was able to compete on a global platform.

Today's youths have been disenfranchised, disempowered and intellectually decapitated through decades of underfunded educational system. Today's youth lack critical thinking skills. They may be college and university degree holders but are largely not smart. It's not their fault. From the early 90s education in Nigeria has become pure joke, university products of Buhari, Babangida military days are now university dons, if the education that generation received was and remained defective, you imagine what they're now delivering to the generation behind them. Deny one generation access to solid education, and you intergenerationally screw them up. You guys are forever screwed up.
