There was not one single agbero on Lagos roads during Abacha era. Abacha had all the national and state chairmen of NURTW and RTEAN locked up.

Abacha's govt was the most peaceful as crime was at its lowest during that govt.

It is widely agreed upon that these two vigilante groups were bankrolled by the newly sworn in civilian governors in the SE and SW as a tribal militia in waiting to tackle any future coup by the military to seize power back.

From its vigilante status to an actual Tribal militia the OPC will later morph to become an ethnic cleansing terrorist organization that specifically targeted northerners in the SW most especially in Lagos.

Kayode Ogundamisi was arrested alongside Dr Federick Fashenu and Gani Adams for inciting public riots and murder.

Kayode Ogundamisi was granted bail but fled the country to the UK were he remains till this day as a fugitive on the run.

Never forget that Tinubu financed this Yoruba Ethnic cleansing terrorist organization to target and kill innocent law abiding northerners residing in Lagos.

Before changes to land use decree under General Obasanjo in 1977, Ojora family owned Ajegunle. Oluwa family owned Apapa. Apa is the original Awori name. Colonists mislabeled and called it Apapa. Infact, Apa is recited as an Oriki for many of Royal Heads in Idungaran. The reason for that is a story for another day.

Chief Tijani Amodu, Oluwa of Lagos took the colonists to court and charged them with criminal infringement for seizing lands in Apapa to build port without his approval. Herbert Macauley defended Oluwa in London in 1920. They returned home with victory. The Queen recognized and acknowledged Dosunmu had no right to cede lands in Lagos to colonists and Oluwa remained the sole owner of Apapa. He was compensated. This precedent ruling confered land ownership and authority on the 11 Idejos of Lagos.

Ajegunle was a swamp, it was landfilled. It was not a fishing ground.

The Ijaws had long since settled in places like Ajegunle and Apapa where they carried out their fishing activities.

When the Wharf was built, Ijaw laborers worked in the ports as load bearers carrying bags of groundnut meant for export.

The ijaw word "Apapa" means groundnut and that is how Apapa got its name.

So the Ijaws had been living in Ajegunle for years prior to British colonial rule but were confined to Ajegunle after the British made it a Government Reserved Area for their expat staff.

The whole Ijaws and Yoruba fight started over who owns Ajegunle as Jakande had installed Yoruba stools where they never existed after Lagos was granted state status in 1979.

The creation of Yoruba stools across Lagos was Jakande's attempt to Yorubanize Lagos .
