To the federal government and any administration that will take over power in the future, just contract PHCN to China for 40years. They will meterise every corner of the nation and Nigeria will enjoy electricity for life.

*Modified*
How to decentralize power in Nigeria.
1. North central & east has high sunlight - Power source can come from solar system
2. North west has high winds - source can come from Wind turbines.
3. North central and south west are close to the river niger - water turbine power source will make sense here.
4. South east and south south are very rich with gas - Gas turbines will be perfect here.

This is what the chinese would do if they want to meterise and power the whole country for life.

The country must break away from a single source of power production and distribution. If possible, let all Geopolitical zones or states have their power source as most advanced countries today are doing. It will create more and reasonable employment than the thieves we have now.

They should decentralize the purchase of meters meaning anyone can go to any shop around you to buy a meter and install it. In that way, power users can pay for their power used and electricity theft can be reduced.

If Gencos get 85% payment for the power they generate, there will be a lot of expansion

Handing over our power supply to China is based on the assumption that the Chinese will come in, build us a brand new power sector, for free, and just give us....like that.

Countries don't give us goodies...and China would probably expect something in return.

A lot of people think that all these big countries, be it US, UK France, and China, and even Japan and Switzerland are giving us goodies for free. They are not. They are getting something in return...and it isn't always to our interest.

The simple way to get 24 hour power? It starts with

1.DISCOS and GENCOS being allowed to charge the prices they want to charge, not government setting the prices for them

2.Every Nigerian, be it, poor, rich etc....paying their bills. Poeple not bypassing their meters, or ignoring NEPA bills....or chasing away NEPA officers from disconnecting them for non payment.

Because, the reason why GSM works, and DISCOS and GENCOS do not work here is basically...GSM can charge whatever price they want to charge. DISCOS and GENCOS cannot. You can use a GSM phone only if you pay for it...here in Nigeria people use power for free, without paying for it, rich or poor.

Power is expensive. It works if it is paid for, at the appropriate price.

Selling meters to anyone can be manipulated because the bills are not paid directly to the federal government but through electricity distributors. The best way would be to decentralize the production of electricity. That is, those in the north east and central should generate electricity through solar system. People at the north west should generate through wind turbines. Those at the north central and south west should generate through water turbine from the river niger. Then people in the south east and south south generate through gas turbine. It will be easier to meterise the whole country if power production is broken down from one source.

The cabals have lost power already because all the aspirants coming now can't be influenced an inch. There only chance to remain in power was Rotimi Amaechi who they failed to hand over to. That's why CBN governor being one of the cabals is on his last fight of killing the Nigerian economy. They're very angry that they're going so they want to increase insecurity and poverty.

They have to be paid, and they have to recoup their investment. Nothing goes for nothing.

We don't have a working power sector because power tarrifs are controlled by government. And kept low so that 'poor benefit'. As a result...no profit, and there is a lot of loss in the sector.

Whereas, I can type this from anywhere because GSM companies and ISP's do not have their prices controlled by government (excpet Ntel, the GSM subsidary of Nitel which collapsed as a result...too many loses. Now rebranding as a private ISP ).....and made enough profit to build all the stuff they need to give us phone and internet service...and here we are.

Allow the DISCOS and GENCOS make a profit while giving us power...and we need not call China, or any global power.

Nope, it is because we don't pay enough for power.

1.Tarrifs are kept below cost of production

2.People don't pay for power...as many as 30-40% nationwide

3.And here we are.

No profit...no power supply.

Why does GSM work here? If the owners of Nigeria don't want us to have power, they won;t have wanted us to have GSM

Now, let me tell you something about the so called owners of Nigeria...a working power supply system is in their interest...it reduces their cost of doing business, and raises their profit margin. Plus, they can take advantage of our relatively cheap labour (as they do in China). If Nigeria has working power, we can become, ultimately, an assembly point for things like consumer electronics, which we can export to the West, bringing down the price, and making cost of living cheaper...good news for Western politicans.

Go and read the PwC report 'Solving the liquidity crunch in the power sector'. Has a lot of interesting stuff. Use google.

The problem is will they invest when they know people won't be able to patronise them?

And don't say they'll only generat power that people would be willing to buy. They will run at a loss if they do that. Cos even if people buy or not, they'll still have expenses and bills to pay. So they'll need a lot of customers to make profit

Exactly. China is not going to give us free power sector. It would have to be paid for...either in higher tarrifs, or in paying back the money used to build the new stuff.

Yes. That is why the government should improve the standard of living of the people so that foreign companies will come and invest there.
It is stupid to invest in a country where people are too poor to patronise you.

Well, the only way to imrpove standards of living is by making it better to do business here, meaning more investment and jobs...and that can be done if things like subsides are removed, and if government income is increased by improving our poor tax to gdp ratio, and if we really fight corruption well well...so that we have more money for education, transport, security...police and army, and welfare projects.

True.
That is why I will only support candidate that supports fuel subsidy removal no matter who he is.

It's not about saying I will end ASUU strike, I will build refineries, I will give Nigerians Stable power. How would you get the money to do that?
Even if corruption is reduced to the barest minimum, there still won't be enough money for all these promises.

Then why are the owners of the power companies allowing government to make them.charge for power below production cost or in other words, at a loss?

How come 30 to 40 percent of their end users are not paying?
