So long as work is on-going, the contractor can do that and do have a 'right'. It is international acceptable best practice. Contractors are supposed to sign post their projects eg:

Resident engineer - Engr Baba Lati
Architecture by Mr Sunday ( Draughtsman City & Guilds London)
Etc.

Such sign posts are usually done by placing signboards in front of the site and not on the roof na haba...

You can do a solar carport if you don't mind, with the panels replacing the roofing sheets or placed on them, like the one @Twinskenny displayed above.

Another option is having a stand-alone solar power generating unit as attached below...with batteries, inverter and other accessories placed in a container located under the panels, but this option will be more expensive of course.

We work together in everything, but the buck stops with me. I make the final decisions. For instance, she prefers a black tile, I prefer white...her only reason being that black can mask dirt/stains, while my reasons for white included brighter interior, cooler temps & ability to match with any interior decor...so I won on that aspect. If she had provided a superior argument, of course I'd have gone with the black.

Others may have a different way of doing theirs and that's completely ok too.
