I have both genders and this is how I would handle mine if I wasn't living in a 3 BD.

Get a 2.5 by 6 bed for each child and let them share the room.

You could also get an adult bunk bed for them. The boy stays on top while the girl stays below.

It's not reasonable for you parents to share a room and the younger child take a room all to herself while her brother sleeps in the sitting room. You are not being fair to your son. Don't breed hatred in him.

Teach your daughter to be accommodating. She doesn't need to dress in the room, she can always bath and dress fully in the bathroom.

If you guys relocate abroad as a family, the easiest apartment to get without breaking the bank is Miniflat or 2BD. Many Nigerians abroad who lived in duplexes in Naija live in 2 BDs with kids of both genders and this is how they live.

N.B: If the boy is comfortable with sleeping in the sitting room then no qualms. You can convert the dining section to a bed space for him while he keeps his clothings in his sister's room.
So it is reasonable to you that the boy should live like a slave in his father's house?

When he grow older to become abusive especially to the opposite gender......you people will start saying he learnt it from his parents.....which eventually is true in this case because everyone of you is suggesting that the boy be abuse.

.... And two sisters can't indulge in immoral activities? If they can. Did you indulge in such?
If No why?
See, our African parents don't even know about lesbianism. It's the west that brought this Gay thing into the world. In Africa, the norms was always man and woman relationship, not the same sex. You can still ask the older generation about same sex relationship and they will be shocked.

Hi,

I got a 2bedroom flat because the place is close to me and my wife place of work.we couldn't get a 3bedroom around the area cos that was the one we saw at the time and it was not costly.

But here is the problem I have a 19yrs old boy waiting for admission and a 16yrs old girl in ss3 but I don't know how to allocate the 2 bedroom maybe my wife and I should take one and leave the other room for my son and daughter but my girl is already a lady and she doesn't want to share a room with her brother,,am also thinking my wife should share one room with our daughter while I share the remaining room with my son but what if me and my wife need each other.

Where we relocated from we had 3 bedrooms and everyone had his room but because that was the only apartment near and less costly we had to take it.
If your seating room has a dinning corner convert it to a room let the boy use it while the girl stay in the room. I understand how your girl feel

.... Madam. The truth of the matter is that both of them can still be indulging in immoral acts whether they share room or not if they have such notion.

The most important thing for the op is to give them proper monitoring.

The only thing I see here is you haven't trained your children enough to be sexually disciplined. There will be no need for this post if you have done a good work. If they can't stay in a room and keep to themselves, I wonder what they will do outside. Call your children and talk to them.

.... Thanks alot for this.

Funny how people are saying they should demarcate the room or let the guy sleep in the parlour as if it will prevent them from not indulging in sexual acts if they want. Is it not still the same house?

Op should put his house in order.

The kids are 19 and 16 yrs old, they would be off to the university soon and in the main time going for lessons, so they can still have time and space for that
And all these extra permutations are simply because a 16 year old child wants privacy? Na wa o.

I am more interested in the number of kids you have than the problem at hand.

You will hardly see an average Nigerian family with 2 kids. Even if they are struggling, they will just keep birthing. I kinda admire you. It is also possible that you wanted more but fate has other plans for you.
I have 2 kids and I have given them my best and still doing so. am glad that God gave me both gender so there's no reason to have more kids and my late father had 16 children and I know how I suffer b4 i made it in life.so I don't want my kids to suffer how I did.thanks

What a mentality @16yrs . What if the parents cannot afford 3rooms, so she should expect her parents to go into thieving abii?? Haven't you seen a family of 6 living in one room and parlour self Cone before.huh U mean the family should be lavising money for house rent because she is a daughter,16 for that matter. When Has it become a crime for Siblings to Live in one roomhuh
She has the right to expect to live better !!!

6 in a one room is an abuse!!!!!!

Please let's not be accepting of bad living conditions. Nor normalise it either

She ought to have a room to herself way before this age.

If you have a dining you can partition it and have the boy occupy it while the girl make use of one room then you & madam use the other room

Living in a self contained is a fvcked up situation and not how people should live!

Because she doesn't want to share a room with her brother or what's the essence of this comment?
OP says "she's already a lady", which means she's likely very developed body-wise,
so having them share the same room may not be a good idea.

I'm sure if the other sibling were a girl like her, she wouldn't mind sharing a room with her.

OP, try this. This's the most sensible comment so far and what you should do, given the dilemma at hand.

Get something (e.g. a non-see-through curtain, or a [big] board like Aaaaarghmed suggests) to demarcate the room into two.
That way, she will have her privacy and space in the room.
Your 19-yr old son would probably appreciate that as well.
do you work with the Agency called UpInTheSky?

Most Nigerians were raised poor and wretched and ignorant. Imagine saying there's something wrong a 16 year old girl wanting her own room?

Once you have sibling of both sexes and they reach 11, they both need to have their own rooms.

The sister and brother came from having their own rooms and you expect them to easily adjust to sharing a sleeping space when both of them are around the age of 18?

Nothing is impossible. Don't give the devil a chance. Constant body touching could arouse any of the siblings. It will first start slowly and unintentional until it gets to the final bus stop.

I would suggest they live in the same room but separate beds. The girl can use the bathroom to change her clothes and deal with other private issues.

16 is not an older teenager. The last time I checked, teenage age starts from 13.

Husband and wife shouldn't let their children know on the night they are about to get intimate, it isn't right.

The girl is still young and at this age, she thinks there's anything special about her body. My married elder sisters can expose their breast before me and it means nothing to them and to me. What's there about the body other than the breast and her pussy?

If there's a strong sibling relationship between the two, I don't see why a small 16 year old will feel that uncomfortable with her elder brother who's 3 years older than her. It's not like she's the older one here.
Seriously I wonder too. When I was a child later a teen I and my sister shared the same room although I had my foam which I slept on. Years later when I clocked 17 I preferred sleeping in the palour while she sleeps in the room. Sometimes she comes to the palour to sleep when the room is too hot for her. We did this till I moved out when I was 21.

So because I don't live in a 'self contain' that automatically means I live in a mansion?

You probably don't think it's a bad thing because you don't know any better.

Kids of the opposite sex should have separate sleeping spaces when they both clock 11.

Nigerians who live with their family in a one bedroom apartment lack common decency and didn't make themselves financially comfortable before having children. Its a fvcked up situation.

Na simple matter you carry come here
Females one room
Males one room
Finally when you and madam need to make up design that simple and if the palor is wide enough make extra room with partitions for your boy.

If not that society has gone to shits, how would we even be here suggesting there is something wrong with siblings sharing a room because they are different genders? It's the reality of the modern world and there's no stopping the train. I long for the world our parents grew up in. It wasn't this bad. Siblings should be able to share a room without even getting ideas until they grow out of the house and become their own persons or start a family. As it stands, the fact that the young woman insists on her own room is already a sign of the societal rot settling in. So, better listen, OP. There's nothing wonderful about it but you have to do it. Demarcate the room for them.
By the comments here we know the people that grew up in a face me and face you grin
