This country is a jungle. Lawlessness thrives here and the funniest part is you can hardly do anything about it.

Same thing happened to me late last year. A land I had been developing, a place I had spent a lot of money was demolished too. That the government wanted to build a nurse's quarters there. But the same government, through her agency, was issuing C of O's when people were buying lands there.

Although I heard it was earmarked for a nurse's station in the 70's. But the government knew people were building there for long, no one said anything. No one was warned. All of us didn't even know anything like that.

We've sued. The matter is in court but the truth is my mind is no longer there. I have forgotten about it and moved on. I am not optimistic that we will win a case against the government or even get them to pay.

I am still single and a young. The people I pitied the most were those who had families and complete houses.

Weather you have C of O or not, if it's FG's project, you will be compensated.

If the beacon of the land is there, take the information on it and go to Your local government area where they register the cadastral plan, this will be a legal document showing the lawyer, the surveyor and the witnesses of when the said land was bought , registered and surveyed.
You can start from there.

1. There was an airstrip in Akpatega. It became disused and it seems people encroached on the land ...

But behold, the aerodrome became a farmland, area for quarrying, people's plots of land, mining and parking of sand/stones by tipper operators after his transition. Yes, a stone thrown into the market does not select the enemies from the friends, and so we are all affected. These illegal works continued there until the coming of Attah Idakwo Ameh Oboni. He asked them to stop immediately the day he visited the aerodrome in 2013. He made the whole areas to be cleared and leveled. Today, the situation of it is as in the picture above but do you know what, the Attah Igala and the federal govt have made a plan to revive it, and to have it upgraded to a standard airport very soon, a reliable source informed me.


2. The 2020 Budget approved by the National assembly contained approval for a project submitted by the Federal Ministry of Aviation to maintain the Idah Airstrip, to cost 150 million Naira.

His house was the only house in the middle of a high-way.
He only moved after he was properly compensated by the government.
That is how things are done in saner climes.
But unfortunately here in Nigeria even our justice system is so corrupt that pursuing a case like this against the federal government is almost futile.
Unless you have money to hire human rights lawyers like Falana, then i don't think there's really hope for you.
Even here in the south i can't count the number of houses forcefully taken over & demolished by the likes of Wike & Rochas, yet nothing has been done about them till date.

My Baba's house (4 bedroom apartment wey dey completely furnished and finished) was destroyed today on grounds that the government wants to build an airport there.

The funny thing be say there'll be no compensation whatsoever from the government (nah wentin dem talk).

It wasn't only his house that was destroyed though.

I just dey seek una advice on wentin man go do. Is there any way or place we could table the matter to at least get compensation? The labour of our heroes past shall not be in vain.

PS: the destroyers didn't tell us if they were from FG or State government; they only said they came from Abuja.

Ask them if you can fly from that airport to Europe, if they say no, then seek for compensation from every available angle you see

When they ask you to do property documentation before building or at least immediately after building you say no that it looks like u are being targeted for extortion. Even if u have a C of O it's still a lost battle coz if we check your building has no approval and doesn't even adhere to building code.

The problem is with the property laws in Nigeria. I think according to the Land Use Act the Sole Administrator of all land in the state is the governor. You're only a lessee.

Agreed and if you build on government land in saner climes, you go to jail but not in Nigeria... I am not justifying demolition of people's property but people need to do due diligent before buying and build houses cos Omo onile do not give 2 cents.... All they ever care about is money and they will sell government owned land even when they know about it.

When citizens will continue to demean themselves by collecting stipends at the polls in exchange for their franchise what do you expect.

And who makes the laws, is it not the people through their Representatives. That is where the people know their position, at the top of the democratic food chain. But when they accept to be used as mops to clean the floor, it is the so called leaders that make the laws and certainly to favour themselves.

The issue is on ground for over 40years now, and the land belongs to Government science secondary school idah not Angwa clan. Go and ask very well. sorry for that

whenever you buy land, you have to check that the land hasnt been earmarked by the govt. I forget what the technical term is but there are lands that the govt has acquired or earmarked for different projects even if they havent started work on it and it appears fallow. if you buy such land, govt will not compensate you.

whenever you buy land, you have to check that the land hasnt been earmarked by the govt. I forget what the technical term is but there are lands that the govt has acquired or earmarked for different projects even if they havent started work on it and it appears fallow. if you buy such land, govt will not compensate you.

Op did you chart the coordinates of the land at ministry of town planning to see whether it isn’t under government acquisition.
