Although it's considered part of Africa, it has no country that can influence anything - both in its region and Africa as a continent, hence why a country like Kenya has more influence in that region than any of its member states.
Soon, there will be no central region. west Africa and east will grab all the nations CAR.

You’ve dropped the bar to a mere $329bn economy,on the other hand we ended 2021 3.4%(we would probably do a 5% then SA the regular 0.1,0.2 prognosis) that left our economy at a whooping $514bn(can you see the gap) . And yes I know you will argue population with me,but also remember our pop has always been twice yours in the last decades but yours managed to stay at the top. Your economy has tanked and you are all over the place shamelessly displaying your insecurities and arguing over FDI. Thesame FDI you’ve always been a shining star with, thesame SA that use to be the untouchable investment hub is now shivering to her kneels.- don’t worry it will only get worse. With all that INFASTRUCTURE you are dragging FDI with countries of lesser infrastructures than your(albeit all that is changing,ours is improving,your is either stagnant or dilapidating).

And yes the US saw shinning SA but had only your past to remember you for and that wasn’t enough to take their biggest consulate to the shores of SA.I bet the nodded their head in pity for ramphosa and his subjects and hopped on the next train to Nigeria. Watch the space more US companies will keep coming ,and then you can wail until you are out of breathe. Nothing will change.

For the Free Trade Zone, I meant Nigeria delayed the process by not agreeing on time and that was a problem for Africa and the AU. They had to ensure Nigeria was on board. Both Nigeria and South Africa were key in the signing of that agreement.
I agree that South Africa have some soft power or influence economically, but it's still not big enough to really influence African politics the way Germany does in Europe for example.

So much ramblings yet so little being said..... My boet every single economist knew Nigeria and Egypt will overtake SA at some stage wrt GDP.... In fact Nigeria was expected to overtake SA decades earlier...... But if you really want to see economical might just look at the wealth of each country instead of GDP.....then you will see how neither Egypt or Nigeria can touch SA...

Also more infrastructure doesn't necessarily mean more FDI... In fact infrastructure investment is a major contributor to FDI
