The medical professionals in the house help please!

The first scan was done at 8weeks + 2days and it shows Dichorionic Diamniotic twins (DCDA) and subsequent scans have been showing the same result.

Note: From three different hospitals

The confusion happened yesterday as the result came out (from the same hospital using for antenatal which is the one that did almost 98% of the previous scans) to be Monochorionic Monoamniotic (MCMA)

My question is, can DCDA suddenly change to MCMA or ALL THE PREVIOUS SCANS aren't done correctly?

I'm not a medical person but in a layman term

DCDA means the babies have separate placenta and separate sac

While MCMA means the babies share the same placenta and sac.

There is also MCDA which is the babies share one placenta but separate sac

Why do you worry? Are the twins not in good health?


There is possibility that early scans may not properly outline the sac which will become more obvious at later gestational ages.

Not really, just surprised the sudden change.

And I learnt that MCMA are more complicated than DCDA
