Ogun Workers Declare Indefinite Strike Over Unremitted Deductions by princeemmma(op): 9:05am On Jun 28, 2022
Workers in Ogun state have declared an indefinite strike over the alleged refusal of the state government to pay their 21-month salary deductions.e

The workers are also protesting what they termed the “government’s insensitivity to workers’ welfare.”

The leadership of the organised labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and Joint Negotiating Committee, declared the strike on Monday while addressing workers at the arcade ground at Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The workers took the decision following the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum issued to Governor Dapo Abiodun over his government’s non payment of eight-year statutory leave allowances and breach of the State Pension Reform Law, 2006 (amended 2013) in the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme, amongst other demands.

According to him, the strike, which would take effect from Tuesday, would be a total and indefinite strike, declaring that there was no going back until their demands were met by the governor.

Bankole said, “We are here today to take our destiny in our own hands. The leadership is ready. We must start a new beginning, we must tell them (government) that we are workers and we are not slaves. The time is now, a stop must be put to this.

“Our future and the future of the workers of Ogun State is in great jeopardy. Governance is a serious business and whoever that is not ready for it, I think it is time we tell such person go home.

“Having given them enough time, they are so busy to attend to us. Maybe if we go home for some time, they will have time to attend to our matter.

“There is no going back. We have given them so long rope to draw.

Omo, that state need serious deliverance from bad leaders...with all the resources they have, still nothing to show. Is it by showing some stupid IGR when it does not affect the people's lives positively and even workers. Stupid leaders we have in this country

Ogun State can actually do better than what it is doing presently.

If a government can't remit deductions now, what will now happen when the workers begin to agitate for increment in salary?

I'm an APC supporter, however given the numerous failures of successive ogun APC governors, particularly on infrastructure, it's time the people seriously consider another party taking over.

huh

The worst governor the state has ever produced, I weep for the people of Ogun state i they give this guy second term...

Nothing is working in that state, so i begin to wonder if they actually have a governor, despite the huge IGR and the close proximity to Lagos, honestly, that state shouldn't be lagging behind....

No wonder Tinubu called him ELEYI.

For those who would be attacking me if I stay in the state, I'm from Lagos, I work in Lagos and I live in Abeokuta with my own family.....

That man needs to be changed ASAP

After 8 years? ... that's why the State not taking them seriously. But it is never too late... this is the way to go to ... time for action. In unity there is strength.... but then I can see a whole lot of spineless cowards crawling in to work ... the very snakes that will be saying I I can't afford to stay home are the very ones that will be rushing to reap what they didn't sow. I love this union leader.... hope the workers give him full support.
