Onitsha because a township and commercial center when Ezechime clan settled there during the reigns of Oba Esigie of Benin (1504 - 1550). Ibadan became a refugee camp for those fleeing the jihad (1804) and later formed their own government in 1829.
Aba became a township when British used the place as a millitary Garrison during their war with Arochukwu war (1900-1901)
