Initial reports suggest former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe has been injured after he was shot in the chest during a campaign event in the city of Nara.

Shooter arrested and in custody. He is a 42 year old man.

He was shot at close range. Honestly, I think It was too risky for him to stand in such an open place without barricades. Good enough the suspect was also caught and arrested immediately.

Now I'm thinking about what could have been done differently to avoid this. Japan is a G7 nation and one would think security measures/intelligence would be prioritised for a high-profile person like Shinzo. My heartfelt prayers are with him.
