In real life, this is the way for someone to be accidently killed. If you have made a mistake, telling your partner can cause them an immense amount of pain, cause them to lose feeling for you, cause them to act irrationally and possibly cause them to leave. If you are prepared for that, then tell them. If not, it's best to "sin no more". |

Pimine: Is it the spouse that created the law of sin? What about other sins of lust, immoral thoughts, Is adultery the worst of all sins? Where is the scriptural backing and express command to this confession? There are some things that are good, commendable but they are not necessarily the ways of God. Confessing to your spouse wouldn't prevent you next time a bigger temptation come knocking but only the grace of God and obedience to already laidout plan of escape. That it is shameful to confess would be mere penance and cannot obliterate the evil done. In summary, confess if you feel and believe it would help you but never you think it's God's requirements for forgiveness. The adulterous woman brought to Jesus was the closest to this situation. She was never asked to go and confess to anyone before Jesus'declared her forgiven! |

If you have stolen money before and now repent, will you go to EFCC to report yourself for prosecution? Your answer to this question should be the same as the topic. Modified This is not a matter that should be treated in black and white. For some partners that's the end of the marriage, some won't end it but the marriage will suffer forever, some will take to violence and dire consequences. Some may have forgiving spirit, and with time, things will return to normal as if it never happened. Make sure you truly repent. If you think telling you partner will help you remain faithful henceforth, do tell. Now there could be STDs or pregnancies from that adultery, in which case you should tell. As a rule of thumb, determine which will help the marriage and your faithfulness, but whichever the case, if the partner does find out, be certain they found out only from you! |

cutecommend:Matthew 5 vs 23 - 24 If your intention is to have God forgive you your own sins, then you are best asking forgiveness from those whom you have hurt even before you ask God to forgive you for the same sins. |

jmoore:Stifles one's conscience? For Pete's sake, Jesus Christ commands that you ask forgiveness from those you have hurt even before you even approach God - Matthew 5 vs 23 - 24 . Anyone who does not do as Jesus Christ commands sins against God by such foolishness, conscience or no conscience. Jesus didn't teach anything about conscience on this so why add these meaningless ideas when they are unnecessary? |

Kobojunkie: What if the partner will never even know you hurt them? I believe your assumption is that the partner is a true Christian to the heart, who is continually led by the spirit. If not, news headline: "WOMAN, 32, BATHS HUSBAND WITH ACID OVER INFIDELITY!" |
Re: Do Christians Need To Confess Adultery To Their Partners? by Kobojunkie: 1:40pm On Jul 17, 2022 |
crows2ravens:Never? Jesus Christ no ask you that one. He made it clear that you should ask forgiveness from those you have hurt or you sin against God by refusing to do so. I don't make any assumptions about the partner at all since the one to whom Jesus Christ's command is meant for is the one who seeks to please God. Acid bath or not, God's decree is that and He does not bend His standard for any man or any reason. |

Lighthouse50:Jesus Christ no command restitution at all since that is instead of the Old Covenant folks- Ezekiel 33 vs 9 - 20.. What He instead makes clear in His New Covenant Law aka the Gospel is that you are to ask forgiveness from those whom you have hurt even before you approach God - Matthew 5 vs 23 - 24 - else you sin against God. |

Else you continue to sin against God. That which concerns God should never be based on opinions which are nothing but lies to begin with. |

Kobojunkie: Jesus gave us two commandments, love God, and love others. Every other law you see is a guideline. Please keep this in your heart. Loving your spouse may mean telling or not telling them. What if by telling, the partner commits murder? Doesn't another "decree" say he that makes his brethren to fall or commit sin has done a terrible thing? I know there are Christian spouses here, and some of them will prefer to not even know at all that there partners cheated. My point is, know your partner. |

crows2ravens:1. Jesus Christ did not give you those two commandments as they are instead both from the Old Covenant Law of Moses - which consists of a total of about 613 laws - that God gave to the Nation of Israel Israel a Constitution in the Land of Canaan. The first is called the Shema - Deuteronomy 6 vs 4 - 9 whereas the second one is found written in the Leviticus 19 vs 9 - 20. And as Jesus Christ said, those two are the greatest - not to be confused with only - of the Law of Moses and the prophets of Old. By the way, all laws, from the greatest to the least of them, are meant to help guide you to doing that which God wants instead of that which you instead imagine, hence the reason why God cursed those who would neglect some of His laws while they instead hold to those they consider more important. The Gospels contains about 100 laws/commandments meant to guide you to doing exactly that which God desires from you instead of that which is born of your imagination in His Name. And according to Jesus Christ, those who love Him are those who obey His commandments- John 14 vs 20 - 25 - and His friends, those who do as He asks - John 15 vs 14 2.. God's law in regards to this situation is clearly stated in Matthew 5 vs 23 - 24. Would you rather do as Jesus Christ asks or would you rather sin against God by refusing to obey Him all so you can continue with the illlusion that is love for your partner. That is the question here. You cannot make a person do anything the person has not first intended to do. Jesus Christ explained this when He made it clear that the bad things we do comes from what is in fact stored up in our hearts, for example, lies. So in order to be responsible for another's sin, you woudk have to manipulate such a person, for instance with lies to achieving that. Here, you are instead confessing a truth. 3. Your relationship with God shouldn't be dependent on the fears harbored by your partner, should it? 1 Like |

Kobojunkie: Stop mixing old and new testament when it comes to commandments. Follow the transfiguration of Jesus, with Moses on one side, and Elijah on the other side. A voice came from heaven, "This is my beloved son...HEAR YE HIM" Moses represented the old covenant and its laws. Elijah represented the old prophets. But God said, listen to Jesus!!! Jesus states clearly He is giving us TWO commandments, and they are both of love. If you understand love and its depth, you will know that you CAN'T apply any other law again in black and white. There's a lot I wish I can share for us to discuss, but will be too long to read. |

Kobojunkie: Which opinion is "a lie" if I may ask? If it's what I am thinking, it becomes a lie if your partner confronts you with it and you deny it. And please, where is the correlation for crying out loud? If you don't understand a potion of the Bible, you seek knowledge and stop seeing yourself as a Bible scholar aren't. The verse didn't say anything about adultery or confessing to your partner about it. Your partner can only be angry at you if he or she catches you in action, hears about it or you confess to him or her. The verses is even only telling the person to forgive others before going to God. Thrash out your misunderstandings with others before going to God. The verse like many related ones is simply teaches peaceful co-existence with others; being at peace with them before bringing any spiritual or physical offerings to him. I am sure someone like you won't forgive your partner if she confesses to adultery. |
