In my line of work I come across a lot of repair jobs caused by external elements creating unwanted vehicle operation, and in a lot of cases, a no start condition. After a while a pattern is noticed and observed on certain engine/trans builds Let me share from that wealth of experience, hopefully it helps some newbies out. Let's start. 3 Likes

The Honda / Acura J series Engine. One thing common with the J series engine is a warm comfortable relaxation spot under the intake, it is a nice hangout area for any rodent in transit or a permanent abode for a vehicle's that don't move around a lot. The rodent uses the harness as floss after a good meal. The most common repair is the P0325 knock sensor related code. In over a decade , I have never come across a 325 code that required a replacement part on this engine. Next common code is the p0118 coolant temp sensor high. 3 Likes

The Toyota/Lexus 2gr-fe engine bay. This engine suffers the p0118 coolant temp sensor code, it is 99per a rodent related code caused by rodents feasting on the harness. It seems rodents have a thing for this particular harness. Symptoms of this failure are * No start condition * Long crank (especially when cold) * No engine temp information with engine running * Engine hesitation and limited performance 3 Likes

The Toyota/Lexus U series transmission. Input and output turbine speed sensor codes . Largely due to loss in communication on the turbine sensors caused by damaged harness, eaten by yours truly. 4 Likes

Noisy AC Fan blower. Usually comes with a rat stench. Well they have come in from behind the dash into the cabin area and most times made a mess of the cabin filter. If you unlucky the fan blower has disintegrated the rat alive and you have a big mess to clean up  2 Likes

GAZZUZZ:This one happened in a car I saw recently. Rat had dealt with the air cleaner element, and it got entangled with the blower motor fan. The complaint was; a lot of noise when the AC was turned on. I instinctively checked behind the glove box, the whole filter was in shreds! 4 Likes |
