The trial preparation hearing is scheduled to take place on 4th August (tomorrow) and a subsequent trial next year.

The trial of the former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who has been in detention in the UK for the past 42 days, will continue Thursday.

Mr Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice Ekweremadu, were on 23 June arrested in the UK by London Met Police and charged with conspiracy to traffic a child to the United Kingdom in order to harvest organs.

According to the prosecutors, the couple has a daughter who has a kidney-related disease and has been on dialysis for quite some time. They added that they believe the plan was to use an organ from the boy on their daughter who needs a kidney transplant.

In a turn of events, David Nwamini (alleged victim of trafficking) told doctors he was 15 and was coerced by the Ekweremadus into donating his kidney.

However, the Nigerian government said all its records show that Mr Nwamini was not a minor and was 21 years old.

The Westminster Magistrate Court in the United Kingdom later ruled that he is not a minor.

The Ekweremadus are facing charges of conspiring to traffick a person for organ harvesting in violation of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.

The case was transferred to Central Criminal Court in London popularly known as Old Bailey where Mrs Ekweremadu was granted bail on stringent conditions. But the senator was denied bail because he was said to be a flight risk.

The trial preparation hearing is scheduled to take place on Thursday and a subsequent trial next year.

Obinna Obeta, a Nigerian doctor practising in the UK, has been charged with plotting with the Ekweremadus to traffic a man into the UK to harvest a kidney for their daughter.

Mr Obeta appeared before Bexley Magistrates’ court on 13 July and is charged under the Modern Slavery Act with arranging the travel of a 21-year-old man between August 2021 and May 2022 to exploit him.

Ekweremadu was part of the Nigerian government that failed to build good hospitals, instead hoping to enrich himself and save his own children while we die here.

Ekweremadu is far better than Peter Obi. Peter Obi did nothing in Anambra state in a whole 7 years, and that's why his only achievement is he has one watch, 2 shoes and one house in Onitsha, blatant liar, they will say it because they know what Nigerians want to hear, ask him what he did to Anambra people, he will tell you he didn't spend Anambra money, he left them in bank, while people were starving and dying on bad roads.

Nigerians never disappoint, they fall for all these tricks, remember how Buhari also played a simple life, northerners will kill you if you publicly insult him then, one even drank gutter water for him, he was like I don't need salary as a president, I have just one house, I need just 4 years etc.

Only in Nigeria a governor will fail woefully, and people will still be fighting for them, Obi is going nowhere, after all una noise, in osun Obi got 2k votes, while APC and PDP got 375k and 400k respectively, in Ekiti Obi got 3k, while APC won, in Ebonyi, he couldn't even get one local government. Why, people are getting wiser, the youth are tired of theories, any governor that didn't do well will not move forward as a politician, we are voting the candidate with the best state in terms of infrastructure, security, investment, HDI, revenue generation.

He must be jailed, that is the only thing that will bring succour to the suffering Nigerians

Lets see how this goes...
I really want to hear how much he planned to pay the guy for his kidney...
An amount that should cover his medication for the rest of his life.

People who donate organs must be on certain medication for life to make up for the absence of an organ.

Baba don see wetin pass. Initially, they thought it was Nigeria where they can always have their way. They thought that sending delegation to England will make British government soft pedal. You don't try sh!t when there's a working government in place

I hope the daughter had gotten her kidney replaced already?
