Pls ASUU hold FG for blokos well. They want a unitary system of govt to display immense power but FG doesn't want the responsibility that comes with it.
They are joking.

Restructure the country in a way that each region can run her affairs as it deems fit, FG said NO.
Then ASUU has every right to demand for same wage parity in both state and federal university.

The state government are not part of the negotiations and I can never support ASUU on this.

The state universities are managed and controlled by the state governors.

Hence each state chapter should negotiate this with there state government.

Now I see ASUU is the problem here. Many state universities are not on strike, why put such burden on the Federal government.

Should the Federal government accept this, the state governors will sabotage the federal government.

Many people here only comment out of hate and frustration without any meaningful thing to say.

And majority of this bitter souls are All ibos.

A shame

Federal govt cant force State govts into an agreement that the States are not parties to.

Does ASUU not have legal advisers.

ASUU should not complicate things. Students need to return to school. Some of them are on the verge of depression.

They are tools in the hands of some politicians, they will rather stretch this strike till around October than easily go back to class

Both federal and state governments are busy building universities to massage their ego of building projects in their constituencies but are not ready to back it up with funding. It's in Nigeria that Lecturers are under payed compared to their counterpart in other countries. Most of the universities lack Lecturers to man the programmes; lack infrastructure befitting of a university etc. Some states are even building 2 universities they cannot truly manage but depending on TETFUND.
Let us even be honest with ourselves. This so called 100% increase they are dallying about, how do they plan to sustainably fund it?
3 months? A year? Then its back to owing salaries.

Whether 100% or 1000% increment in salaries, the most important consideration is whether they will get paid at the end of each month. This government and her partners are quick to promise but good at turning renegades in their promises. The FG and ASUU saga is on an infinite loop.

am not a fan of FG at all.. but its high time thus unions know that, you can't buy tomatoes in kano at the same price with Lagos, same should happen to fuel subsidies, price of petrol in PH should be different from Gusau, state that has universities should engage their lecturers and negotiate to their capacity of payment, according to their revenues and allocation and let FG negotiate with federal university lecturers on their own... having a uniform pay across board is a no no.. it wont work.. we only deceiving ourselves.

It doesn't work that way sir. State university is established, owned and funded by the state and not FG.

Is it a state that is finding it difficult to pay Prof ₦400k monthly that you will now asked to pay ₦1.5 million monthly?

Shey u see, ASUU hasn't actually done their homework or aren't realistic enough to be putting this on their agreements. How will the federal government force a state to pay a salary they can't afford?

these lecturers are not ready to go back to work. How can federal govt negotiate on behalf of states? how can you have an agreement binding on states when states are not participants in the negotiations?

The same State Government that cannot pay the current salary regularly. So the battle will be set between ASUU and the state Government. When the states , who are not financially viable, were jostling to own universities for political reasons, everyone kept mute. Now the chicken has come home to roost.

FG can never force the state govts on what they will pay the lecturers in state-owned university. Another phase of the trouble is just opening up

Lastly, I hope the committee recommends how the lecturers will be held accountable for their performance too. They should stop neglecting classrooms while they delegate graduate assistants to teach the students and do their marking for them, while they are busy screwing the ladies on campus.

You actually do not know what you're saying or you're being selfsh.
There's no where in the World where lecturers or Professors are paid the same salary.
For instance, a full Professor in UCT doesn't collect the same salaries with the full Professor in UJ.
People are paid based on many factors such as revenue capacity of the university, capacity of the Lecturers to attract funding, and living expenses in the city where the university is located.

ASUU is very wicked they know the true solution to development challenges confronting Nigeria is true Federalism.
How would the FG decides what to pay lecturers in State University. That's counterproductive to true federalism we are all clamouring for.
In most decent societies, Professors are pointed based and paid based on their ability to bring in money.
Nigeria still has long way to go with all these crooks in academic gown and useless politicians in the corridor of power.

What if state governments say they can't meet the demands except federal government increase their monthly allocations too or they increase tuition fees which will be almost in par with private universities? Then the polytechnic lecturers too will join, and like that it goes on...... FG have seen all the potential consequences and hence trying to avoid it. There are more to these things than just blaming one party

Let me just observe that I love prof Soludo and his administration! He's a prophecy come true!

Anambra will be liveable again after his 8years tenure. Not like the touting that hitherto was the bane of the state.

On the issue at hand, FG should just effect the increment of salaries for lecturers at federal universities while progressive state does same for their various states. Nigerians will now be made to behold those backward states that have been dragging us to the muds since the present democratic dispensation.

What a hypocracy! ASUU claims it is fighting in the interest of the students and that the union will resist any attempt by the government to commercialize university education. Now, same union jubilates over a proposal of 180% salary increase, meaning a lecture on a monthly salary of, say, 200,000 will now receive 360,000.

Where does the union expect the gov't to source the fund for the humongous wage increase, from heaven or student? Can the union explain how a 180% wage increase sourced from the parents does not into commercialization?

State universities should hold their state government responsible.
I said it earlier that State universities 'ASUU' members that join the federal universities 'ASUU' members to go on strike are on working and striking for the benefits of those members in federal universities.
