ASUU and Medical Doctors are the most insensitive of Government workers when it comes to their demands.

And the senators that sit in upper chamber doing nothing are sensitive abi. They collect heavy allowances without impacting anything meaningful are the worst. Don't blame the lecturers because Nigeria situation based on goods are services have increased, imagine buying a bag of rice at a rate of #29,000 and you expect them to give out their best.

Unfortunately, salaries are fixed in Nigeria arbitrarily, without recourse to those indices you listed. No true federalism, hence difficult to separate salaries of state and federal universities. The current salary was also negotiated and signed in 2009 for public universities. It is just the minimum that can be paid.

That's explain why more 70% of Professors (especially in non medical fields or non-science fields) in Nigeria are redundant and either become a pastor or engrossed in administrative positions or social function because their salaries are not tied to those listed productive indices.
If you like pay them 2million naira, they cannot be globally competitive without those conditions attached.

But FG is the one giving monthly allocation to states, and every state has just one state university. So that should not be a big deal. FG has federal Universities all over the country and so will bear more burden than the States. In summary, states universities must be part of the whole deal

Federal government does not give allocation to States. Both federal, States and local receive allocations from an independent committee. Also, some States have up to three state universities, like mine. So, federal cannot be responsible for state universities.

The industrial dispute between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities may worsen following the insistence of the Federal Ministry of Education that its proposed agreement with the union will not be binding on state universities.

Can anyone explain why the FG should include state universities in negotiations when they dont work for them? Its insane this basic fact is neglected from the conversation. The state university lecturers should bother their employers the state government.
