Why do u guys always like to look for faults in anything done by ur government? I have noticed this madness among Imo people, always want to talk down on ur governor. One thing u guys should know is this, the way u see ur state is the same way others would see it. I am very sure if this structure was built by a governor of another state u will be applauding that governor. Same thing Abia people did to their state, and now when u mention Abia any where in Nigeria people think of one inhabitable place void of anything good. That is why in Nigeria today, the name 'Abia' is synonymous to failure.

It's not growing because of or from the assistance of government. In fact, this government is not only underperforming, but actively killing citizens as a proven fact. So it's beyond PR

You're working hard to find a fault where there's non, granted you may have axe to grind with Hope Uzodinma.

You're implying that it's cool to forget a moribund govt owned factory that has been ceased? Is it written anywhere that Hope Uzodinma wants to run it Heck he even partnered with Roche group on Adapalm company.
Your criticism is baseless, watery and destructive sired through hate rather than logic.

Exactly. It is more painful when imolites join in bringing down their own state. Really a shame.

They think they are doing it to spite Hope but they don't know they are spiting themselves and the state. They politicise everything..The insecurity or so called "killing of innocent youths" is also being experienced in other states but compare the reaction of the opposition or naysayers in Imo to other states.
Government will construct a federal road, a fool will say why didn't he construct state roads that Hope is chasing shadows and other silly comments...
The hatred of Hope has beclouded their reasoning. There is a difference between constructive criticism and demarketing of your state..
I don't even like Hope but I will never engage in unconstructive criticism or demarketing of my state, I will wait to 2024 to vote my choice..

The term 'govt owned factory' doesn't sound crazy to you? What about government owned Keke? Why not gov owned Suya? Why do we think it's ok for government to open a factory? Because it's big?

The objective of business is making money. The objective of government is to win elections. Why would government run something as important as a factory? There are thousands of manufactures in Imo Abia etc. Why not encourage them rather that building a factory? If I'm selling shoes and the government is selling shoes, suddenly I'm making less money.

We have to change this mentality and figure out what government is actually is so that we can do it correctly. Government has no business in business. It can regular and encourage but it cannot join the market and start wrestling customers from real businesses

You do have a point here, although I don't envy most of your submissions on this forum.

When I came for Christmas hols, I was shocked to see this guy with a big container and making quality shoes, just close to House of freeda. I was so tempted to stop and carried out an integrity test on the shoe when he wasn't watching. I was highly impressed. Imagine if government can encourage this guys to set up a global brand with more sophisticated technology for larger production; This is what you call development.
Government can even partner...(obtainable in developed countries)

That beautiful vibes you get when you are in Otown is because you have individuals running the Hospitality/Entertainment industry.....

But having said all these things, I still believe total restructuring of the country will give us a clear direction of an Enterprise, be it government, private or public-private partnership

Imo has had a series of bad, unwanted governors and nobody benefits from pretending they're doing well. Imo is supposed to be leading the country in many sectors as the state has through out it's history, and nobody should rest until that is address. The current governor is killing citizens, the last one was an international laughing stock. If anything we need to fix our politics, not the way we talk.

We as Igbos are the most entreprenuerial people in the world. Many have not had a chance to meet others but when you do, you will realize the percentage of entreprenuers and manufactures we produce out of a group of 100 Igbo ppl is extremely rare and a gift that other people will give everything to have.

MEANWHILE we have governments that are constantly using government business to get in the way of these entrepreneurs. We are one of the only ppl in the world asking the government to do less so that we can do more, but they insist on fighting this blessing. If left alone we could electrify our communities and a matter of months. But again, government. So after failing in the act of governing, you now want to jump in the way of business...why? If I make shoes, and the person you were speaking of makes shoes, what do we benefit from a government shoe factory that will ruin our market?

Even if it 'creates jobs' I too could have created those jobs had you taken the resources you used in building the vanity project to back me up and make sure I have what I need to succeed. Why will an Igbo government build a shoe factory when Aba has more shoe factories than many cities has people? and 0 of the Aba shoe factories are getting patronage or support from the government. So after not supporting me, you will now put your shoes next to my own so that both of us have 50% of the potential customers we would have normally had.

Will you maintain this government factory? no. You have no incentive, your money comes from oil
Will your successor support your vanity project with his allocation? no
Will we constantly elect expert shoe factory managers? no
Will you appoint somebody other than your political ally to run the factory? no
Even if you appoint somebody qualified, will they try their best to maintain a position they will only keep for 8 years? no.

There is 0 reason for us to keep making government companies.

Imo government repossesses shoe factory after payment of N1.6b Debt

The Assets Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON), at the weekend handed over the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of the Imo Standard Shoe Company Limited, Owerri, which it had seized, to the state government after receiving a debt repayment of N1.6b.
https://guardian.ng/news/imo-government-repossesses-shoe-factory-after-payment-of-n1-6b-debt/

Nwanne, look at this stupidity and think critically.
1.6 billion Naira in debt. State government is paying to 'revive' a dead government factory. to create 'gainful employment'. Ok

1.6 billion Naira. Take that money and say I will give 500 shoe manufacturers N3,200,000 if they
- Set up or already have their factory in Imo
- Hire no less than 10 people.

If 500 factories who are already
1. experts at making shoes
2. controllers of a customer base
3. possessors of a brand
4. aware of the market and business of shoe making and selling

hire 10 people and used the government grant to buy machinery. You have
1. Created 5000 jobs (minimum)
2. Added 500 factories to the state or enhanced 500 that were already there with modern machinery

I will tell you right now that no factory in Imo or Nigeria employs 5000 people. That debt from the shoe factory will be used on a factory that hires roughly 200-250 people and soon they will complain of unpaid salaries. Using your money wisely you have already created over 25x the result. If I from Imo have enough thought processing capacity to figure this out, I'm not going to accept being governed by somebody who does not.

Why we stopped construction of gas development project in Imo, by Shell | The Guardian Nigeria News

Shell Petroleum Development Company Limited (SPDC) said it temporarily halted the construction of a multi- billion naira Assa North/ Ohaji South Gas Development Project sited in Imo State, which was started in 2019, due to the growing incidents of insecurity in the area.

The project, when completed, has a potential capacity for 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, one of the largest domestic gas projects in Nigeria.

Sadly, the oil Dutch giant said it has uncovered, at least, 112 illegal refineries in Ikwerre, Rivers State. Shell’s Head, Corporate Relations Nigeria and Director, SPDC, Igo Weli, disclosed this at the weekend during an engagement with some journalists from Imo and Abia states on crude theft awareness , pipeline vandalism and illegal refineries perpetrated by hoodlums in the operational areas of the South South and South East.

Regretting that the project, which was started in 2019 and expected to be completed in 2023, she said it was put on hold, last year, following the killings and attacks by suspected cult members and other hoodlums, lamenting that the action had put on hold the over 980 employment opportunities and 2,612 sub- contracting chances, valued at N1.6 billion.

At the occasion attended by the Imo and Abia chairmen of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Akaraonye and Victor Ndukwe, respectively; and other Shell officials, Ivan Okoye, Lead, Remediation; Jack Mpkakabori; Lanre Abiola, Lead Encroachment Management; Dr. Francis, official in the department of Community Health Project and Strategies; Hope Nuka, Manager, Opportunities; Mrs. Judit Okakuru, Shell Relations Officer (Imo and Abia); Michael Adande, Shell Spokesperson, Michael Adande, and an official of the media unit of the oil exploration and production company, Emeka Chinke, Weli decried high criminal activities, which led to loss in revenue accruable to the international firm to the tune of over $1 billion in the last few months.

He regretted that despite the social investment programmes, which the SPDC Joint Venture showered on over 18,000 persons, and 1,833 patients in eye problems, with 678 refractive errors and presbyo pia issues, and other healthcare projects, as well as provision of infrastructure in the more than 12 communities, the hoodlums set up over 150 oil bunkers and illegal refineries, leading to the Abaezi forest explosion, in Ohaji /Egbema Local Council of the state, resulting in over 110 fatalities, 200 injured.

During Rochas okorocha regime the company ran into debts after brief operation, Amcon paid the debt and ceased the company, IMSG just paid 1.6 billion naira outstanding balance to recover it.
I advice that the company should be privatized or sold outrightly.

Are Nigerians smart enough to understand your level of reasoning? No. That shoe factory died over 30 years ago and whatever debt was incured then probably from suppliers who connived with then military government to pay for non executed contracts. Okorocha is a very intelligent man and refused to involve State in business. State owned factories were concessioned to private foreign investors thereby relieving the State of wasteful expenses paying unproductive workers and running business at a loss. Uzodimma's government will come to an end in few months time and his successor must restore peace and development.

Imo Born Amarachi Ezihe Bags First Class, Awards, Emerges Best Graduate Student Of Babcock University

Amarachi Ezihe also bagged six other awards at the Babcock convocation ceremony alongside the first class awards.

The awards include: the Overall Best Graduating Student of the University, Best Graduating Student of the Faculty of Science, Best Graduating Student of the Department of Computer Science among others.

Prior to her university education, she had attended Ideal Preparatory Pre-Nursery, Nursery, Primary, and Secondary Schools, Eket, Akwa Ibom State. She was took the first position at those stages, thus in her final year Secondary School she surpassed the school’s historical record by winning 11 prestigious awards.

Amarachi was born 20 years ago to the family of the Chairman Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN Imo chapter, Mr Everest Ezihe and Mrs Ruth Ezihe.

She hails from Umuelekocha in Oboro Umueze Ogwa in Umueze/Abazu Ogwa Autonomous Community in Imo state, presently the father is the President General of the famous autonomous community and was raised in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Amidst cheers and celebrations last Sunday, the day convocation of the University was held, Amarachi Ezihe said she is grateful to God for His grace and guidance and to her parents for always being there for her. She dedicated the awards to all less privileged youths in Nigeria, praying for God’s favour upon their lives.

Ezihe expressed gratitude to the University authorities for being meticulous both in academics and character building, lamenting that it’s not easy to be a graduate of Babcock University because they are thorough in all academic ramifications.

According to her”it’s easy to enter BU but extremely difficult to graduate due to their standard, they will drill and task you physically, emotionally and intellectually just to make you the best in every endeavor of human discipline. This is one University in the world that doesn’t tolerate any act of indiscipline and if you are a lazy person, just forget Babcock University” she informed.

The academic icon also informed that she was focused throughout her academic career being conscious of what the parents were passing through just to give her quality education and her vision and prayers was to make them proud.

She said that her vision is to further her studies abroad immediately after her National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, while advising Nigerian youths to shun anti social vices and drug abuse, insisting that there’s no short cut to an enduring success.

Adding his voice, her father Rotarian Everest Ezihe (Aka Ekpuchi Onwa) expressed gratitude to God for making the family proud using his first daughter.

Ezihe informed that her daughter right from birth has shown being an exceptional child with high level of intelligence.

He pointed out that Amarachi has always assured him that she will always make the family proud and have demonstrated this by her humility, love of God and humanity, respect and charity.

The proud father recalled that he blessed Amarachi as a child of destiny and convenant right from her mother’s womb and thanked God for answered prayers insisting that she remains a special gift to humanity and her generation as the entire Olumba family is proud of her.

Anambra is greater and richer than imo can ever be even in the next decade.

Anambra has better intellectuals than imo can ever have even in the next 10 decades, that's why Anambra produced Zik, Ojukwu, Achebe, Emeagwali, Soludo, Chimamanda, etc imo cannot even boast of equivalent of Chimamanda not to talk of Achebe. Imo people kept producing commercial sex hawkers.

Imo men and women are known for prostitution and sex workers.

Imo only has dirty touts, kidnappers, unrefined people, illiterates, owerri dirty miscreants at Douglas Road, control, etc.

That's why millions of imo indigenes are trooping to Onitsha, Awka and everywhere in Anambra for greener pasture but you cannot find anyone from Anambra living in Owerri.

Pacesetterz:

Imo is greater and richer than Anambra. When it comes to intellectuals we have them. Hardworking popular business men and women? We have them.
Anambra only have dirty touts parading the whole of Onitsha and upper iweka. Unrefined people

Though Obiano isn't perfect but he transformed Anambra and its cities more than all the governors that have ruled your backward useless worthless shithole imo state. Owerri is a cesspit of dilapidated roads, filth, etc, that's why millions of imo indigenes keep trooping to Anambra to live.

At least Obiano built a standard international airport that has dwarfed all the states airports in Nigeria and made imo airport look like a pig farm.

Obiano built Awka international convention centre, first of its kind in Nigeria, but your backward imo state has none.

Obiano built flyovers in Awka, but your backward Owerri has no functioning flyover since it was created as a state.

Anambra has better hospitals, better schools, better teaching hospital, better universities, etc than imo state. You need to know your mate.

Pacesetterz:

From ur first paragraph you have just simply told us that Obiano did nothing in Anambra in terms of infrastructure. Which is very true. If not why are u in total dismay that all internal township roads in onitsha, Nnewi and Awka had totally collapsed with huge swimming pools called potholes? So it’s true that Obiano didn’t fix any road in Anambra neither did his lazy commissioner of works do anything at that tym.

Shell to Resume Oil Production in Imo state

One of the observations of my administration upon resumption of office, was the fact that Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) had been off-site and suspended operations in Imo State as a result of insecurity, vandalism and illegal oil bunkering within the region.

Having restored peace and tranquility along the coastline, today, I met yet again with the Managing Director and Chairman of the oil giant, Osagie Okunbor and I am elated at his assurance and confirmation of the company's resolve to resume exploration in the State.

This development is expected to create a ripple effect and economic boost for the growth of local contents within the region and the State at large while contributing to more developmental projects from the Government.

On behalf of the Government and good people of Imo State, I express my profound gratitude to the management and staff of SPDC. Rest assured, that the State Government is committed to any partnership that would bring about the development of the State.

Anambra is greater and richer than imo can ever be even in the next decade.

Anambra has better intellectuals than IMO can ever have even in the next 10 decades, that's why Anambra produced Zik, Ojukwu, Achebe, Emeagwali, Soludo, Chimamanda, etc IMO cannot even boast of the equivalent of Chimamanda not to talk of Achebe. Imo people kept producing commercial sex hawkers.

Imo men and women are known for prostitution and sex workers.

Imo only has dirty touts, kidnappers, unrefined people, illiterates, Owerri dirty miscreants at Douglas Road, control, etc.

I read ur comment and I was prompted to check ur moniker.. I was expecting to see names like "BastardSon", "Foolofthecentury" or maybe "IberibeDgreat" but to my amazement, I saw "1East".

Now I wonder what motivated u to use this moniker if you will later go under it to spew this nonsense u spewed here.

The greatness of Ndigbo lies in the unity of Igbos no matter what state they are from. States were created 30 Years ago, bu Ndigbo have been in existence for 100 years now.

I a homogenous county like Nigeria, we need unity and sense of purpose to foster development and self-preservation.

I will excuse you if you are not Igbo but use this moniker to foster disunity. But if you are, I can only imagine the stench of pettiness that oozes out from u.

Advise yourself bro, if someone talks about ur state not doing well in any regard, they are not saying it because they hat u or ur state, no, they are saying such because they want Alaigbo to have a good and livable state.

TO be frank there is no state in SE that's worth bragging of. We are not the worst, but seriously we shouldn't be where we are now. States Like Anambra should be competing with Jouhanesburg, not even Lagos. We have people with money but they are not organized and united that's why we do things individually and that hasn't yielded any good results.

I know after reading this you may want to rush to your keyboard to give me a "befitting reply". But I swear I won't entertain the back and forth. I've made a salient point and if it is not something u can understand then sorry I can't help u.
