the media team that snapped that pic explained it months ago. Those are mbororo fulanis, minorities in Borno state, they live in typical villages and bushes and refused to send their children to school. He went there with his entire entourage, sat down with them and tried to talk to them on why they needed to bring their kids out of the forest and send them to school. He ate bread with them just to show them they're the same people who don't need to hide inside forest. There's an entire thread on it on Twitter by the photographer who snapped the pictures.
