Ojukwu's action on Victor Banjo was purely personal. Don't forget he also took out his best friend Ifeajuna, so it was nothing tribal.
The man Ojukwu took lots of wrong steps during the war.

The Igbo people hold Victor Banjo in high esteem. My dad will never talk of Biafra war without mentioning the man Victor Banjo. He was a great man.

Ojukwu said his worst mistake was to send Banjo on that mission. Banjo's betrayal is worse than what Brutus and Cassius did to Julius Caesar. If he had stuck to plan, the Biafran war would have been one of the shortest in the annals of military history.

Ojukwu wanted to save Banjo but the Biafran High Command would have none of such nonsense because they already warned him not to make that move in the first place. He simply overruled them.
