Point of Sales transactions hit a record high of 4.6trillion in the first seven months of 2022. It represents a 29.3% increase if compared to 3.56trillion recorded in 2021.

The increase in volume and value had resulted to a reduction in cash payments which reflects the growth of online shopping in Nigeria.Notably, the volume and value of cheque transactions dropped in the same period.In the month of July 2022, POS transactions stood at N724.7billion, almost a tripple since 2018 when it was 1.2trillion.

Report from Nairametrics revealed that transactions worth 204.5 trillion were performed electronically in Nigeria between January and July 2022 through Nigeria Interbank settlement systems,(NIBSS ) instant payment. It represents a 40% increase compared to 145.8trillion recorded in the same period of previous year.
