Free the woman. She made a good point, however no ignorance in the court of law. With a good lawyer she could be free or few months in jail/public service punishment. 5 Likes 4 Shares |

I advocate the laws on marijuana cultivation and use be reviewed in the country! There's a missing link, somewhere! We mustn't close our eyes to the economic and health benefits. Get me right, I've not seen the plant before neither do I do it. 1 Like |

Ganja planting in private residents is more common than you think, most houses in Lagos and Abuja, especially single residential homes own at least a pot of ganja in their backyard for personal use, sometimes some go commercial for the profit. 1 Like |

This woman is obviously wealthy to be living in an Abuja mansion, but she made a cardinal error by growing weed at her house where any one of her house-help was thus given the power to send her to jail by simply calling the police to see the plants. One should NEVER allow ANYONE to witness laws being broken because NO secret is safe in a land where there is hunger. The police smoke weed copiously, but they get very excited when they receive information that cannabis is being grown somewhere because the arrest of the farmer means lots of bribe money to be shared at the station, with which the officers can then go and buy their own weed and even complete the construction of their village homes, depending on the size of the crop that is discovered, and the size of the bribe that the weed grower pays to avoid summary jail for 20 years. 1 Like |

2aces: Wow, that is amazing to hear. Never imagined that people residing in Nigeria would dare plant weed at home given the draconian laws against growing and possessing cannabis in Nigeria. Actually it is good news to hear that people are avoiding the black market whose weed is often poisoned with dangerous chemicals, such that medical marijuana users are growing their own supply quietly while awaiting Nigeria to join Ghana, Malawi, South Africa, Lesotho, and other nations in Africa that have legalized the commercial production of cannabis and its medically beneficial derivatives. |

I really feel sorry for this lady. She obviously felt that if she was only growing weed for her own personal use and not selling it, she was alright by the law. This crop is earning companies millions of dollars worldwide right now, yet Nigeria still continues to classify cannabis alongside REAL deadly poisons like tramadol, methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and other pharmaceutical products that kill even in small doses. For the record, marijuana is yet to kill one single human being as a result of an overdose. Alcohol on the other hand, despite being perfectly legal to consume in any quantity, kills thousands of people annually as a direct result of overdoses or any of the other destructive effects wreaked by alcohol on the human body. Cigarettes are even MORE deadly than alcohol, yet are also perfectly legal to consume and sell openly in Nigeria. 2 Likes |

Melonsmasher: There are billions of US greenback dollars to be made growing weed, and all that is required for this most lucrative business to take flight in Nigeria is a stroke of the pen to end that counterproductive prohibition of cannabis that was forced on Nigeria by British colonialists 1 Like |

Seems she had good intentions with it, she made some good point. This plant has a lot of good uses, for it's oil, for anti depressants, to aide appetite, some doctors also recommend it abroad. It's high time we classify our drugs properly, and differentiate between synthetic and organic drugs. prisons time, for people caught with small quantity of marijuana/cannabis herbs, is just congestion of prison, waste of tax payers money to feed and cater for them in prison, it's better to have more rehabilitation and counselling centers, and leave prison for hardened criminals and serious crimes. 1 Like |
