Anybody who didn't watch Arsenal during Mustafi years would think u are angry at the club for getting rid of Vidic and replacing him with Maguire ![]() |

Spy360:Tbh, all what you said here it's same thing we've been saying but somehow you just have to skew to absolve Lokonga. For one you said "people are not the problem but the system", when in actual its the opposite. There's a reason why we did away with them Pepe sokratis, Leno and co because obviously the people was the problem to the system Arteta wanted to deploy. What is a system if the right people can't carry it out effectively. You said you won't blame Lokonga because he was trying to impress but we that saw his game know that ystdy performance have been coming since, it just exploded ystdy. I talked about him positionally poor defensively, weak defensively and anytime we are on an attack, he was always susceptible as the base 6. You didn't agree as you always said he's always there not to defend but to keep possession. You always defend him anytime I bring up his defensive frailties by always saying it's all the team's job to defend. Now you're blaming highline. I would only blame highline if it's from defence or deep a deep Midfielders punt the ball straight to Rashford to score his two goals but it didn't happen. Infact, I'll break down exactly what Ten Haag did in the next post and tag you |

Too much romance on the ball in front of opponents 18. Do our players want to drib and enter net with the ball? Come on! Make una no take me back to Wenger days wey dem go drib enta net. Awilo tried, 5/5 been that he's not a dm but cm. I see a positivity in Viera in the few minutes he played. God punish the guy that is incharge of the match-day var and on-field ref for the disallow goal. COYG!!! |

BlueRayDick:I just don't want to put mouth for this Gabriel and Saka matter because only me fit take I full page of this thread and become worn out. Na Kokane dey always bring all these rubbish anytime we lose. We are still top of the league and our top 4 min target is very intact. What we should be doing is enjoying the times not arguing over players that are giving their best. |

Jodera:Y’all are not getting my point. Being faced with pressure maybe once or twice in 90 mins and he’s found wanting. Do you think this guy would have done better under Emery ball with Guen Xhaka and Willock in midfield where the defense was constantly under pressure? Considering y’all prop him an upgrade. |

If you notice after the first 8-10 mins of the game when Man u was in control, arsenal did collective defending till we were able to get ourselves, regain possession and dominate proceedings. From then on the press was too much as immediately man u win the ball, we'll so press them(hats out to our front 3) that they'll punt the ball upfield looking for either Rashford or Antony but our defence always deal with it cleanly. All these while we were playing highline oo. It was going well until Ten Haag spotted a weak spot (the DM zone) which I'll outline in pointers. 1.. The first goal — Man u regains possession, arsenal pressed, instead of punting it long as they normally do for fear of mistake, Eriksen drifted wide and the pass was made to him. Bruno quickly ran into the DM zone (zone between the last Midfield to our defence) which was already free as Sambi was no where to be found. Eriksen one time ball to Bruno and we have 3 against 3 Bruno Sancho and Rashford against White, Gabriel and Saliba. Gabriel engaged Bruno, fouled him in order to prevent any attack from becoming serious but the ball unfortunately fell to Sancho who did a one time pass to Rashford. Zinchenko now back covered up for Gabriel which made Antony free because he made a late run into the box and the goal happened. DM exposed which Bruno capitalised on the zone. 2.. The 2nd goal.— arsenal was on the ascendency. Lokonga lost the ball high up the pitch, immediately, Bruno again ran into that pocket of space again(the DM zone) and laid a fine through pass for Rashford to run into. As for the 3rd goal sef, I no even understand the tactics as I felt Arteta undid his nice tactics with that 3 subs at once. He panicked!!!!. It's also surprising we didn't move to 352 as we did against Fulham probably because Arteta didn't trust Sambi to be positionally aware defensively to screen the defence when Man u would want to counter attack as we would be more exposed compared to our 433. Ten Haag found the space to exploit us and it worked well(running into that DM zone). I just hope other teams to find out this template and use it against us but I won't bet against it. Everton match would be an eye to keep on Spy360 |

kokaneprodigy:Yes, he would have done. I have confidence in this defence compared to Emery's time. Good in air, hardly beaten and assured of the ball. And Gabriel is part of that defence. Another thing is that we rarely concede set pieces which was very very likely during Emery and Wenger's time. Gabriel might have his flaws but e no reach Mustafi own abeg. |

And please I'm not condemning Lokonga saying he had a bad game ystdy. No!! I'm just saying his defense frailties was exposed ystdy as Ten Haag smartly capitalised on it |

Jodera:How many set pieces do we face in recent times, so it’s only Gabriel that defends against the set pieces? |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Jodera: 9:44am On Sep 05, 2022 |
kokaneprodigy:We faced over 100 corners last season and only conceded our first corner against tottenham around May. I don't want to talk about the freekicks in dangerous places we faced last season and conceded less. And no, Gabriel is not the only one that defends set pieces but he's one of the defenders so he deserves the credit too |

Jodera:This has nothing to do with the tactics deployed but the almighty Gabu. If una don decide to Stan player nothing wey person no go read. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 10:59am On Sep 05, 2022 |
Jodera:If I ask you what Lokonga would have done to prevent the goals what would be your answer? You should have included that in your analysis. Look it's easy to find fault. For the records, the first goal was on Zinchenko and Gabriel- Gab should have stayed his ground and not launch forward exposing himself, Zinchenko should have marked his man but left him to cover Gabriel who has exposed the defense. That first goal was a team error not in any particular player. The second goal also was a team error because the structure was wrong. They should have sat back in a double pivot of Lokonga and Xhaka but both forayed and exposed the defense the moment the ball was lost. Lokonga losing the ball is not the problem, but that the positional structure was wrong. That one is on the manager for me. The third was bound to happen after the manager also sent forward players in an attempt to rescue the game. At 1-1 in the 60something min, why push for a winner in an away game against a top side and exposing the entire team and scattering the structure? That's pure arrogance and inexperience. You all know how I love Arteta but I will say what I observed. No sentiments. |

kokaneprodigy:I'm saying he's part of the defence. We've seen Maguire and Mustafi mess up even though the tactics deployed is good. Put Maguire ystdy against us and Gabriel Jesus will use him for mincemeat with the way he played ystdy. It's not about stanning, it's about being logical. It's just like someone saying Gabriel Jesus did not score ystdy but if na Giroud we go dey insult am. To me, we should move forward not backward and Mustafi was one of our worst defenders in recent times. We no fit use am compare anybody for this set at all |

Spy360:Putting any sort of blame on Zinchenko is even funny ![]() Anyways, like I said, I just hope Lampard doesn't capitalise and target that zone cos if it happens, we'll stlll keep on blaming Arteta for playing highline instead of falling deeper forgetting that it was such tactics that made us win 5 straight and have correct performances all these while |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by daveP(m): 11:11am On Sep 05, 2022 |
Arteta should better learn the lessons he should from the game. The two goals(disallowed and Saka goal) we scored came from us dispossessing them, not us dominating with possession and circling their box. Infact two of their own goals came from possession around their own box then once Bruno got the ball, he transitioned with beating our useless high line. They saw it working and e begin dey sweet dia body to keep repeating, meaning we became predictable at that moment, not cos that was their Major approach. Infact we kept their forwards quiet for quite a large part until those silly mistakes began to pop up. Sometimes, we should allow these top 6 teams get possession and then hit on counter. Most of our goals against them in the last two seasons came that way. The last time we scored from fluid build up and possession against more than one team in the big 6, Ozil was still our midfield maestro. That should tell a lot. A lot. I don't think we prepared for Bruno in the match buildup, or Lokonga just no sabi. |
