JUST IN: Police disperse, teargas Obi’s supporters in Ebonyi

The Police in Ebonyi State on Saturday dispersed supporters of the OBI-dient movement who gathered at the Pastoral Centre, Abakaliki for the one-million-march for the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

Our correspondent, who was at the venue saw men of the Nigeria Police Force teargas Obi’s supporters, who numbered over 1,000.

The incident caused both human and vehicular traffic on the popular Old Enugu Road, in the capital city, on Saturday morning.

One of the supporters, Steve Ugama, said aside dispersing and tear-gassing the supporters, about five of his colleagues have been arrested by the police.

He said, “This is inhuman and undemocratic. We have gathered here this morning for our peaceful March, all of a sudden, the police came and started tear-gassing us and arresting our people.

“They said we can’t hold the march, because Governor David Umahi asked them to stop us, that we can’t hold it. About four or our colleague have been arrested. We need help here.”

In as much as we should condemn the governor's behavior however campaign was supposed to resume September 28 but this LP supporters fighting for good governance have been breaking the laws in every State, holding rallies. You guys are just too lawless in your behavior and that is how you attack anyone not in support of your candidate. It's time you start behaving in a civil manner.

They gathered in Ibadan,Ondo,Edo,Benue,Taraba, Nasarawa and delta state in Peace without being dispersed.

But was stopped and dispersed in Ebonyi state,South East state where Obi aimed from.

They are afraid of the man who has no structure.

I wonder why Imo & Ebonyi decided to elect APC governors. When same is done to APC supporters in any part of the country they will wail as usual and say Obi wants to kill them.
