Because they can't see how subsides are damaging the economy.

Which is one reason why I don;t support APC or PDP or even any of the parties...none of them wants to remove subsides. But the thing is, whatever Labour says, we have to.

Your tinubu better support subsidy removal. So should atiku and obi. Forget labour. They are not always right.

You can't say forget labour.

ASUU for instace is a branch of Labour and no matter how ASUU might be, the public would always support them over government.

When Buhari talked about removing the same Subsidy, did the Organised Labour and the NLC complain about it? Did they protest?
..
Why is this confused Buffon bringing them into the subsidy topic now?

Labour did...but at the end, when they were shown how keeping petrol at N87 was threatening their salaries....they then accepted the compromise of partial subsidy removal.

Even under GEJ, despite all the protests, fuel went up from N65 to N97, then N87.

At the end, subsidy costs too much. Even NLC knows that. It is because they think that removing subsidy means high prices, and government won't increase their saalries, that they agitate for it all the time.

Also, finally, Labour is not complaining because Buhari as I said, is doing partial removal. If Bubu did full removal of subsidy....then they would have complained well well.

cool cool Oga Kayemo I think tackling Oga Obi over fuel subsidy should not be your concern, if I was in your shoe , I would pick Oga Atiku and Oga Obi 's thoughts on how to solve the lingering ASUU problem, because it is obvious Oga Bola has refuse to give President Buhari expose on what to do.... It is like your party forgets young people are a sizeable block in the elections.... Yet you do want to ride on President Buhari's scorecard to the Presidency.

Are you reading for the sake of understanding or simply to oppose?

Can you tell me where I promoted subsidies?

I simply responded to the issue of subsidising of luxuries which should never happen.

If anything should be subsidized, it can only be essentials.

And I am telling you subsides on essentials without appropriate revenue raised from taxation cannot work.

You cannot repair our refineries.

By now this should have been clear to all.

The solution is to sell them off to private investors but I'm sure Labour would oppose the sale.
If they cannot repair why is the minister for state Sylva saying the PH refinery will be in operation by the end of the year?
If this was possible, why was the repair not carried out right from the inception of this administration?
Lets even admit without conceding that our moribund refineries are beyond repair, what stopped the FG from building new refineries instead of denying that there was anything called subsidy?
A state in america Texas has 47 operational refineries yet we are trying to revive a refinery when we have the resources to build new ones!
I stand to be corrected....Nigeria is the only OPEC country that still imports petroleum products!
What a disgrace!

But most Nigerians regardless of party support subsides. So, instead of Keyamo to say that yes, Obi is right...he labells Obi evil....

The only way refineries can be repaired is that subsidy has to go first.

That way there would be

1.Enough income comming in to incentivise domestic refining...which means NNPC would repair refineries quickly to take advantage of the profits.

2. Investors would be willing to invest...since subsidy removal means enough profit

3.No more free government money, which means that the refineries better work, or NNPC Ltd loses money. Under such a circumstance, sabotage, crude oil theft, etc would reduce. A refinery worker sabotaging the refinery means lost money, which hits his pocket first. (There is one reason why MTN works better than Nitel ever did....they get no government money.).

And anyway, two refineries are being repaired now...because NNPC wants to take advantage of the proposed June 2023 removal of subsidy date.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and its flag bearer, Muhammadu Buhari, have finally taken a hold of Nigeria’s federal power after what was for them the longest eight weeks in the nation’s history (March 28 – May 29, 2015).

During the electioneering campaign, the people’s general, who shall forthwith be addressed as President Muhammadu Buhari; his vice president, Yemi Osinbajo; and other top members of the party, made lots of promises to Nigerians, upon which they rode gallantly to power.

Would the APC, Buhari and Osinbajo keep their promises to Nigerians? Or would their administration end up like the quote of Greek author, Aesop, who said: “When all is said and done, more is said than done”?

Just in the spirit of accountability’s sake, TheCable has compiled a list of Buhari’s and APC’s promises to Nigerians, as these will undoubtedly form the stake against which the APC government would be assessed when this new tenure ends in 2019.

Yes, because when Nigerians say subsidy is a scam, they mean that the government should 'cut the corruption in the subsidy' not remove it. APC played on that to get elected. Ultimately APC is made up of Nigerians, most of whom DO not suppot subsidy removal.

1.Yes, they protested. So also did most Nigerians. Even PDP, GEJ supporters were opposed to subsidy removal.

2.I am going to say it again. Most Nigerians don';t support subsidy removal. Even the one Buhari is doing...the partial subsidy removals he does....which reflect as an increase in prices...is used as evidence of how evil he is by most of his opponents.

3.The thing is, you guys use fuel price increases as a means to hit whichever government in power does it. Because you really don't want to buy fuel at market price, you want it subsidised. If your side does it, it is ok

4.I hate to defend Buhari...but the price increases is necessary. If he had kept fuel at N87 per liter...by now we would have been spending all our budget to pay for subsides, and have been in an even bigger debt than what we have. Just as if Jona had allowed kerosene and diesel subsidy to remain instead of removing them in 2013, we would have been spending all our budget money by now paying for subsides...

5.Ideally, what Bubu and GEJ and many Nigerian leaders past wanted to do is completely remove subsides. But Nigerians are opposed. Meanwhile subsidy costs keep on rising...so they have to do partial removals so as to ensure that there is still some kudi leftover to pay for things, and to keep us from having a deficit that becomes bigger than the actual budget.

Now, do you support subsidy removal?
Yes, I do. I know how much I buy gas in US each time. In Benin Republic, they sell fuel almost at double the pump price back home....Benin currency has overtaken ours, just to digress a little. Naira was far more valuable than cefa as of 2015 cos we always have projects there and i used to buy cefa each time. They have no oil, they are poorer than Nigeria as well yet, their currency is so strong now.

Subsidy payment is not transparently done even under this administration. There's nothing like partial subsidy payment as claimed by the apc. They clamoured for subsidy removal but what happend? They're still paying as much as they did in GEJ era. When they knew that pump price increase was inevitable, why lie about it and why stage the needless protest to make it look like GEJ's administration was punishing Nigerians?

The government of the day knows what to do but they don't want to do it. Give licences to companies to build local refineries, even if its modular, give enough licences to interested investors and see subsidy disappear. But you know...they feed fat from subsidy.

My own question is for APC, what is the point keeping the subsidy if it saves interest free funds for us as against borrowing with crippling interests?
They knew they were going to remove it (tentatively albeit) but borrowed for eight years to send us into a crippling debt. APC deserves to go for that alone.

So What happens when the FG repairs or build the refineries first?
When the subsidy is removed who pays for the actual price of the imported products?
How much is aviation fuel? How much is a single trip by air?
Diesel has been deregulated right? How much is diesel sold in your own state currently?

Only way for FG to repair refineries...remove subsidy first. Because the money that would have gone into repairing refineries is spent on subsidising fuel in the first place.....

Finally, you want fuel and diesel to be sold at cheap prices...from your last sentence. It does not work like that in real life. The people who bring and make the diesel you use want to be paid well. Same for fuel. And subsidy costs don't cover all their cost of living.
