Owerri is actually underrated. The city has made significant leap in development in recent times based on private sector investments. Owerri used to be behind cities like Calabar and Enugu but not anymore. Owerri also has a night life you can hardly find anywhere else in Nigeria.

THat's one thing give kudos for rochas for, he made Owerri look attractive (even though most of his projects it were substandard and temporal).

Owerri is doin gwell in Private investments.

Anybody who still thinks in that direction about Okorocha is yet to understand the big conspiracy against him. Even roundabouts were demolished to present this your view but the one at Assumpta stays because it was made in religious symbol hence inability to get it removed.

Owerri has not changed it's image in recent time. Even during Ohakim it looked great (arguably better)

I was disgusted seeing that dust too. A very wide road now looks narrow and untidy because it can't be swept regularly. SMH.

Owerri is probably the only city in SE that can rival P.H in no distant time. The city has an exotic feel, the type you experience in places like Abuja and P.H.

Owerri can surpass PH, but will need industry to do so. White collar work has grown and is growing, but Owerri also needs industries for the blue collar workers so that there's balance.

I believe it will surpass PH in the next 10 years. But PH has an impressive amount of industry

PH is growing and will continue to grow and will be a giant soon. After this election, whatever happens, whether Obi wins or Obi loses, I see most easterners using Onne and Akwa Ibom port more to get their goods into AlaIgbo

I do too but the industry the keeps Owerri going (Diaspora) is bigger, and has a brighter future than the one that keeps PH going (Oil).
The #1 industry in the east right now is Igbos from abroad coming and going. Igboland gets more annual visitations than Mecca.
Unlike mecca where they're staying in hotels, buying a few gifts and going home, those traveling in and out of Igboland are building houses, factories, hotels etc. Their spending while in the east is astronomical.
These people are building companies and homes and Owerri more than anywhere else has been able to capitalize on it. PH cannot
Oil is oil, but the amount of ppl it benefits are more limited than housing and hospitality.

So I see Onne and Ibom ports becoming a bigger deal in the future but the the next few decades the dominate source of business in our region will be the diaspora and they will continue to choose Owerri to invest. This is why you can have 1000 hotels in Owerri and all of them are making money.

Oil, if anything, is shrinking or receding and Ibom is a more attractive investment than PH which has severe pollution issue.

Owerri is just living in its past glory, the city is no longer as it was.
Anybody who have lived in Owerri for long would know that Owerri is loosing it. Even the nightlife is fast diminishing.

Silly frustrated clown, everyone knows that imo state is the headquarters and breeding ground for ipob terrorism that has affected th3 economy and security of SE. Abia and Imo are the ones causing all the unrest in SE, particularly imo state that its indigenes have been passing through the boarders to attack in Anambra and return to imo which is their safe zone. Owerri and orlu has continued to host ipob terrorists all these while. Even imo government House was renamed by ipob. Stop deceiving yourself everyone in igboland knows the origin of ipob which is imo state.

Kingsbuchi:

You don't have to go so low and claim Imo just to make your narrative convincing...you just wrote nonsense..The insecurity started simultaneously across the south eastern states. The root of the insecurity is from MNK after he formed ESN, from there it escalated. Don't claim Imo to suit your narrative, ewu. Your comrade Chino always claim Imo when he wants to make such assertion, we are not fools. I don't know why some of you have decided to be foolish and sentimental.

I agree, Owerri right now has likely caught up to Enugu in population and size, but I have not seen Enugu in a very long time. It has for sure surpassed Onitsha and is likely reaching Aba in size.

I feel so sad that dust could cover half the road on Bank road leading to Government house and the Governor drives past it daily. Something should be done ASAP.
It's quite unfortunate though Owerri has a porous and sandy soil hence the encroachment of dust and sand on the road. It can be minimised when most of the roads are tarred but for now it should be swept. The sandy road affects the beauty of the city.
Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Naniboi17: 9:09pm On Sep 14, 2022
These are not just regular duplexes, these are edifices. Owerri remains the most developed and urban city in the south east. We just need more solid road networks and a cleaner environment to make this city the one to beat in Nigeria.
The government should construct more roads and ensure that the roads are standard because we Ndi Imo want the best, we crave for the best.
Imolites pls do not be part of those that litter the streets with refuse, change begins with you.

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Ofodirinwa: 7:42pm On Sep 15, 2022
One of the things that will contribute to Owerri growing in a sound and reasonable way is the proliferation of other cities in the state. Many Nigerian cities have collapsed under the weight of carrying more than they can chew. Lagos is only recently beginning to recover from the same issue after decades of being majority slum.

If Owerri is overwhelmed by demand, either the cost of living will be unbearable leading to slumming, or it will sprawl out chaotically like other cities which is just as bad as the first option.

But if there are other cities to take 'the blow' of demand, you will see measured, sane, sustainable growth.

As much as people have placed their bets on Okigwe and Orlu, Arondizogu, Umuaka and Nkwerre have begun emerging beyond previous expectations. This has to be encouraged

I thought it was government-owned, It's time the government established a law that property owners repaint their buildings every ten years.

one thing I like Uzodima for is his urban renewal drive for Owerri. This is very key to the growth of owerri

But what i dislike about him is the open gutter roads he is littering in Owerri.

He neeeds to stop doing roads with open gutters in owerri metropolis, it's an eyesore and will soon gets filled with dirts.

Owerri is doing well, the tempo needs to be sustained and iPPOb/ESN/UGM needs to be taken out of Imo.

Open drainage is common in Nigeria due to torrential rainfall. If we adopt a closed drainage system, we will experience heavy flooding.

UGM/ESN is currently receiving it hot hot in Orsu, airstrike coupled with ground operations. The community have harboured those killers for long, I don't pity them. Kudos to the military

Are are you kidding me? Please don't be repeating this thing again, Southern America receives more rainfall than Nigeria, you won't find such roads there.

EVen PH do't have Open gutters littered in key roads.

BWT, thank to the Army for clearing them out.
