First, there's nothing like Igbo market in Lagos. Lagos State is a Yoruba land.

Secondly, even the big markets in Aba, Onitsha and Enugu are dirty.

I don't do that tribalism nonsense with you people. I say it the way it is. If you don't like it, I don't give a hoot.

How many Yoruba people are doing business in Ladipo

candidtalk:

Bro, Ladipo and other traditional markets won't even exist going forward. The SW crafted the DAWN regional development initiative in opposition , circa 2012 -2013, because we assumed not controlling the centre meant we had draw on our cumulative strengths, as a region, to develop Yoruba land, free of the encumbrance of 'one Nigeria' , as Tinubu did with Lagos when he was the only opposition SW governors in the SW for a long time.

With Tinubu claiming ground off OBJ's PDP, to add 4 ACN governors to Lagos, it became obvious an alliance with the North's CPC, ANPP etal could oust the PDP. Hence the birth of APC.

The Yoruba leaders gave the allegiance their all and threw their weight behind Buhari thinking he would be a leader of integrity who would embrace and pursue the holistic reforms and restructuring Nigeria, and the SW in particularly, craved badly.

Alas Buhari had his own agenda. This has now convinced SW leaders and intelligentsia class that we should never have allowed ourselves to deviate from pursuing DAWN because we assumed being part of the centre would provide the regional autonomy and 'free hand' we had always craved.

Now, with or without the Presidency, the SW is determined to develop and modernise as region regardless of who is President and whatever governance structure is in operation. We have been in opposition and at the centre, since 1999 democracy began, to now understand conclusively that permanent autonomy is what matters. Not the Presidency per se or the absence of it.

Bro ask any intelligent Yoruba you know. Nowhere do very bright and exposed Yorubas gather and they do not talk of what I am stating here. It is a new consciousness we are not compromising with.

I only pity people who want to remain in 1972 while Yorubas don port go 2028.

I'm happy to read this.
We just can't continue like this, things have to change drastically.
I'll go and flow the DAWN page to know what they're up to.

Lagos has an established body that collects money from traders to clean up the markets. If any trader defaults, close the persons shop, while closing the whole market? A failure of the system is more a failure of governance

Nigerian authorities represent the highest level of irresponsibility on earth.
Some decisions they make, I always ask myself; is this decision made by a human being? Or goat?

The government is dirty, why won't the country be dirty?

Note: My comments are not based on any tribal or religious sentiments.
I am only making general suggestions
Those markets can be closed section by section.

So the cleanliness of dubai mall and ladipo na the same!! Next time make sensible apples to apples comparison. I have been to a street market in London for fresh fruit and vegetables and it was neat as can be. Look at the Nigerian version...its a mess!

That's is the unfortunate truth! It's not racial or tribalistic it's just a fact that has its reason in culture. Same way most violent crimes are carried out by people of Eastern origin.

Yoruba have their problems and I own up to them. Hausa have their problem too (illiteracy and corruption, nepotism)

The government is dirty that why Nigeria is dirty.
You will see dirty markets across Nigeria but best option is not to close them indefinitely for two months or more?
We are not saying it because is Lagos, No.

This is not targeted at Igbos. I have warned Nigerians till Blue in the face and spammed this forum to death over what is shown below.

Everything, for the Yorubas today, is about regional governance and shaping the SW in the most progressive way as quickly as possible.

Buhari's divisive Presidency, where the likes of Malami was given free reign to bully Sanwo-Olu etal, helped massively to harmonise this opinion in all Yoruba leaders, across Party lines, to now create seige mentality that is not going away anytime soon.

As someone involved in the governance of Lagos, though not as a politician or public administrator, I can tell you Sanwo-Olu is the most reform-minded of all Governors since Tinubu.

Only thing is that he does it with a smile so you will never know what he is capable of and will never see it coming. Unlike Fashola who is transparently honest to a fault. He will tell you his opinion to your face.

Lagos wants to move away from open and disorganised market structures that cause traffic, create filth, overcrowding and prevent the emergence of the type of modern markets and sophisticsted megacity synergy, like London, the State wants to pursue.

I have warned Igbos many times that they are the most ignorant and most vulnerable to what is shown below that Tinubu, Atiku or Obi Presidency can never stop.. It is not fight with anyone but Yorubas are simply tired of 'one Nigeria' regression.

They are now after accelerated modernity and rapid socio-economic progress, in a regional context, that will at least make the SW on par with South Africa, in the short term, and capable of evolving as developed European nations have done.

Those who have ears let them hear. Go and prepare for what is shown below and get ready to build from your regional base and not that of the SW.

Don't start to cry when Yoruba leaders, unitedly, begin to aggressively shape the SW region in the image they want.

Nice write up. That’s the same reasons the LASG is relocating computer village. Open and disorganized markets should be gradually phased out. Thanks

For a fact, those traders have damaged the environment beyond anything. Imagine dumping disused spare parts and damaged windscreen in the drains.

The big canal close to the market is where they defaecate. It's surely one of the dirtiest part of Lagos and the market leadership don't seem to care about it.

Because you want to sound unbiased you end up surpporting evil. Are the Igbo dominated markets the dirtiest markets in Lagos? What of markets dominated by Yorubas and Hausas? Be wise and sincere for once.

All traders must do is convince the authorities that their market is clean with proper waste market facilities. I know Oyingbo very well, the please is a shit hole and should be closed down. The majority of the traders at Oyingbo market are from Dahomey and Egun selling dry fish and foodstuff.

If the government have or had given warning and still no change den I support their actions

The way oyingbo market is now eehn, the way it was built is wrong.. na why e dey stuffy and those selling things along the road, close to the construction site where that bridge is and those selling on the land where fuel station was previously, they are so dirty, imagine selling crayfish on broken blocks and the water from the bridge being erected there made the ground an eyesore yet people dey put foodstuffs there to sell...when u go oyingbo for morning, u go know wetin I dey talk.. government needs to pull down that structure dey erected and called oyingbo ultra modern market, the construction is so terrible, how u expect food sellers to rent shops up? Build am to k-klamp model, but with bricks instead of containers.. and make spaces between each lines..more like mile 12 market, bariga market etc
This is an example of constructive criticism.

In truth, the govt needs to start erecting stalls that will be affordable for petty traders in the markets. Lagos would have been a very beautiful city if not for disorderliness. Imagine Lagos without roadside traders.

I remember the day Oshodi was cleaned up by Fashola. I was going to Lagos from Abeokuta on that Sunday morning. I couldn't believe my eyes when I reached Oshodi. Never knew the road was that wide. Everywhere looked so different. People were like 'Is this Oshodi?'

Lagos is really missing Fashola's zero tolerant approach to disorderliness. That's why I like parliamentary system of government.

Nice one brother.

It seems that is the way to go now.

Bro, I drove past Ibara parts market Lekki the other day. The same one Igbos are making noise about because they are being asked to leave shops they have occupied illegally in the first place.

They barked impotently yet Lagos has levelled parts of the area and the entire shanties right next to Ibara. Completely bruv.

They demolished all the illegal structure in what is an appreciable area that was dominated by dirty slums and pure filth.

As usual, Igbos made noise but I informed them a consortium has legally acquired the area. I was rushing to a meeting that day, Saturday gone, otherwise I would have taken pictures and shown empty chest-beaters here.

The reformation of Lagos has nothing to do with Igbos. Yorubas are not petty like that. Unlike some folks.

It is purely about developing modern cities now and maximising socio-economic growth potentials without letting 'one Nigeria' lunacy impede us anymore.

Folks can mark my word here. Lagos will no longer be "no man's land". Lessons have been learnt and reversal of impunity and illegality will dominate Sanwo-Olu's final term.
