I think those against having degree as minimum requirement for post of president are seeing things the wrong way . The way I see it, having minimum requirement as bachelors degree is not to disqualify Coscharis and Dangote dem, but rather to ensure that anybody who has dream to become the president at least shows he’s smart intellectually and then other qualities are looked at. While there are Dangote and Coscharis who didn’t need degrees to be successful businessmen, we equally have the Otedolas , Deji Adeleke who have degrees doing well for themselves . For every Dangote u lose while upholding degree as minimum academic requirement , there are enough Deji Adeleke, Otedolas out there who can fill their shoes . It’s not like it’s the degree that will form basis of electing them 100% , but it’s a minimum requirement to dissuade a lot of dullards from trying at all. It’s just like dem KPMG and co putting up an advert and pegging the minimum academic qualification at a Bsc degree with 2.1 . It’s not like they don’t know there are bright 2.2 prospective candidates, but they want to weed out as many not-so-smart 2.2 graduates that will definitely waste their precious time. So they are willing to deal with the 2.1 graduates who they will still judge based on their academic prowess ( at the CBT or Pencil-paper test ) , their eloquence & presentation skills ( at the interview/assessment center) , their emotional Intelligence , etc to eventually select the best of the best . Just take a look at the case of Obasanjo and Buhari ; while both didn’t have degrees yet one turned out good and the other worse . Obasanjo made some gains while Buhari ( whom even his loyalists have confirmed on this very thread that he’s empty as empty can ever be ) took us back as a country for as many years as u can think of . However , if u think SSCE is fine for anybody to become Nigeria’s president , I think u shouldn’t have problem with FLSC and stark illiterates becoming the president as well . This is because while u are standing with SSCE people , u are also doing injustice to FLSC holders and those who are unable to attend school ( but are desirous of becoming the president ) their right too . |

As regards the Industrial Court ruling on ASUU , it only means the students will stay at home for more days ( if not months ) . The union will definitely appeal the case at a court of higher jurisdiction (apply for a stay of action while at it ) and then make further appeal if that first one doesn’t favor them. Ngige sef already said it earlier ( I think around August ) that they didn’t take ASUU to court cos going through the court will take more time . If the series of court cases later favors FG and students resume without FG and ASUU resolving their issues, the students will still be the one to suffer for it. I read somewhere the ASUU chairman likened forcing them to resume against their will to forcing Doctors to resume to the hospitals ; it will affect the quality of their teachings ( I mean this is the same quality of education we are still saying is not quality enough ) All in all, I don’t envy anybody still a registered student in a Nigerian university sha . The Lord is una strength o. |

BlueRayDick:Having a university degree does not ensure someone is smart intellectually. I have seen too many intellectually bankrupt graduates. If we won’t to really ENSURE intellectual capability then we should make it 1st class degree PLUS graduate degree AND PhD. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 1:12am On Sep 22, 2022 |
afrodoc2:Nobody is saying having second class degree “ensures” u are smart, but it limits the number of dumb people that will enter the candidates’ pool . For example if I want to recruit for a business development manager , I won’t waste my time throwing it open and having an all-comers affair listening to people with different class of degrees . I will just peg a barest minimum qualification let’s say 2.2 …. If u scale that hurdle, it’s not yet Uhuru for u but just the beginning . It is only then I will listen how u think u fit into the role, what u will do differently , what u are bringing to the team and how u will go about achieving those lofty goals u are promising to achieve . |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by afrodoc2: 1:28am On Sep 22, 2022 |
BlueRayDick:Why not limit the pool of dumb people by ensuring it is a 1st class degree then? Then limit more than that by ensuring a masters? Finally add another hurdle of PhD. The most important criteria should be your record (work experience) and your plan for the country. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 1:47am On Sep 22, 2022 |
afrodoc2:I already gave answer to this in my initial post ; it’s cos u want the best of both worlds . U want someone who is academically smart and also posses other qualities of a good leader . Just look at Buhari and u will understand the danger of throwing the gate open to allow everyone participate without looking at an encompassing criteria. |

BlueRayDick:The gate thrown open captured Buhari OBJ and Jonathan. While OBJ without a degree was the best of the lot. There are degree holders worse than Buhari holding political offices. Buharis problem is not because he doesn't have a degree. He has the same qualifications as OBJ who performed better If we want absolute academic best then why keep it at just Bachelors why not just gun for the top we should keep at PhD. 4.9 GPA and all round A1 in Waec We will be sure we are getting the best of the best |

BlueRayDick:How many FLSC can communicate effectively in the official language of the country? Communication is a big part of leadership too. Why do you think countries more advanced and more complex than ours did not include a Bachelors barrier and blocking their own Bill Gates and Zuckerberg but allowing Adam with a Bachelors in Romance Languages who cannot get a job and still lives in his moms basement? It's because they know there is little link between academics and delivery I have met many brilliant people who didn't complete University Many people won't dream about ruling a country at 16 when they are making decisions to go to Uni or not. They just want to have a career where they can be successful and feed themselves 16yr old Dangote and Coscharis wasnt thinking about ruling a country didn't see the need for a Uni education. He proved to be a genius at what he laid his hand on around late 30s or 40. So you expect Dangite at 40 to go enroll in University just because of what? To become president? Or a 17yr old who decides to join the military and rose to General we will say he is not qualified because he didn't go to Uni George Weah an accomplished man in his field does not have a Bachelors so we will say our own Kanu Oliseh, all our successful businessmen and celebrities who don't have Bachelors cannot rule but less successful ones who spent their time in Uni for what they can't even use to feed themselves are better. If you want to be president. First criteria can you communicate effectively? 2. Show what you've achieved as a person in your chosen profession 3. How does your background and track record fix issues in the country. Whether it's by PhD or by handwork or by business is not my concern. As long as you did it legitimately |

I think i will go with raumdeuter's submision here. *Communication *That you hv excelled/excelling in your field *Track record of fixing issues and all of that. I think these are all trait of an intelligent person. |

seankafor:Lol, making degree prequisites, that same degree majority go obtain under this present conditions in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Laughable. In the same vein, i believe the electorate will likely be bent towards a degree holder than an SSCE holder. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 7:47am On Sep 22, 2022 |
raumdeuter:Afe Babalola ( SAN) didn’t go to formal school and could communicate in official language as at the time he wrote private GCE . Baba practically self-studied for his GCE on the farm and was writing mails and telegram abroad himself . I’m sure he’s not the only person who could (and did ) as at that time. If we can allow SSCE/GCE holders to become president because they can communicate effectively , why can’t we allow a person who hasn’t seen the four walls of a primary school be one since some of them too can communicate effectively and have done well for themselves in their own field ? Away from that, Goodluck became president simply because his principal died so he had to complete their joint ticket. Goodluck would most likely not win 2011 elections if he wasn’t an incumbent president already as at that time. Like I said , getting a degree shouldn’t be hard for anybody who has a dream of ruling the most populous black nation. Look at Wilf Ndidi who recently bagged a degree in the UK , he’s like every other footballer that has made a name for themselves in their profession but he understands not having a degree may be a major limitation for him in whatever life he chooses to live after retirement . Dangote already has a business degree to his name ; I don’t know the age he got it but we’ve seen much elderly people return to school because of their personal ambition. |

izzou:How many graduates can hold their own if scrutinized? They're a lot of students in our universities who have no business whatsoever there...I don't even want to talk about folks their sort their way through school and graduate with good grades yet are as dumb as they come... |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 9:12am On Sep 22, 2022 |
patrickmuf:Why are you guys focusing on the bad ones just to suit your narrative? So let me ask you Mr Patrick? I'm assuming you are a graduate. Are you dumb? Did you sort your way through school for good grades? I'm sure the answer is NO. There are degree holders killing it back to back. There are more degree holders putting us on the map, than SSCE holders. But no. For this narrative to pass, let's assume all degree holders are dumb and useless |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 9:16am On Sep 22, 2022 |
patrickmuf:There are millions of graduates who hold their own if scrutinized . Who do u think work in all commercial banks in the country ? Who do u think work in all the big 4’s in the country ? Who do u think work as engineers , marketers ,lecturers, etc ? You think Dangote will be the richest Blackman if he employs SSCE holders full his businesses ? I have a friend who has first class in mechanical engineering , distinction in his MSC and works with Dangote Petrochemicals. In our society today, an SSCE holder would not even get the job of clerk/office assistant , yet we want our president to just have SSCE and that’s fine ? Me I no agree o. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by afrodoc2: 9:18am On Sep 22, 2022 |
izzou: Everything is not about narrative. People should be open to the idea that people can have different opinions. Can you list the countries that require their rulers to have a degree? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 9:22am On Sep 22, 2022 |
izzou:Me I no go gree o. The era of people having just SSCE and growing through the ranks from clerk or janitor to senior management has passed na. The fact that Nigeria’s constitution says u should only show evidence that you attempt SSCE/GCE ( and not evidence that you passed ) makes it all even laughable . That’s why we have someone like Buhari in power today. Buhari would not even be employed as a sales rep in Nigeria of today , but yet he can become naija president ![]() |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 9:26am On Sep 22, 2022 |
afrodoc2:You disagreed with making degree a minimum, but you did not start giving reason of how degree holders are dumb and not deserving. That's being open to an idea. All I have reading last night have been how degree holders are dumb and all that, but almost all sectors in this country are thriving because Degree holders are running the show. I don't know what any country requires their rulers to have. But what I know is if you check rulers, Mayors, Governors that are excelling in those countries you ask, they have much more than an SSCE |

One of my most telling legacies as governor of Kano is in the vast improvement in the human capital of our people. I have fond memories of thousands of our citizens benefiting from scholarship opportunities to advance themselves in major and specialized courses. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso |

Sponsored Post Graduate Training of 21 Candidates in Public Health at Texas A & M University, USA. 4. Sponsored 8 students for dispatcher pilot course at College of Aviation, Zaria. 5.
