Being slain in the Spirit is a Pentecostal practice whereby a person falls backward after a minister touches him or her on the forehead. In many Pentecostal churches, falling under the anointing is a session of the service that members eagerly await.
It usually comes after the minister’s sermon. People come forward to be delivered from their life problems. The minister or pastor would then touch them of the fore head and they would fall backward. They would stay in a cataleptic state on the ground for a time ranging from one minute to one hour and sometimes more.

Popular Pentecostal ministers are all involved into this practice. The minister’s power is measured by whether people fall backward and writhe on the ground at his touch.
It is noteworthy at this point to say that Maria woodworth-Etter might have been the first Holiness/Pentecostal minister to exhibit the slaying in the spirit phenomenon. Roberts Liardon in his book “God’s General” says on page 48-49, under the paragraph titled, “Angels came into my room,” that angels came into Maria’s room and took her West, over prairies, lakes, forests and rivers where she saw a long, wide field oh waving golden grain. As the view unfolded, she began to preach and saw the grains begin to fall like sheaves. Then Jesus told that, “Just as the grain fell, so people would fall” as she preached.
Later, Roberts recounted, as Maria stood in front of a crowd in her own community, not knowing what to say, she opened her mouth and the people began to weep and fall to the ground. It is my humble opinion that the practice of falling under the anointing or being slain in the spirit as it is popularly known began as a result of the vision Maria Woodworth-Etter had. The practice started with her as her ministry would later become known for people falling in trances that lasted for over two hours. She herself went into a trance while preaching and stood in a single spot for three days.
Ministers after her began experiencing the same manifestations in their ministries. And these have lasted .....

When the Roman soldiers went to arrest Jesus Christ at the Garden of Gethsemane and he identified himself as the one they sought, the Bible recorded that they fell backward!

Was that not falling under the anointing?
If it is, then, that should be the origin of falling under the anointing!

My observations

Let's please consider the claims made of this Mary and the Truth of God as revealed by Jesus Christ. in John 14 vs 15 - 26 & John 15 vs 26 - 27 & John 16 vs 4 - 15 , Jesus Christ clearly explained to His followers who the Holy Spirit aka the Spirit of Truth really is. Not only is He the very same Spirit of Truth that lived and taught from within Jesus Christ while He was on earth, Jesus Christ explained in so many words that the Spirit would be subject to Him, Jesus Christ meaning that He would give and do only that which was of Jesus Christ( and the Kingdom of God) and only that. According to Jesus Christ,

a. The Father will send the Spirit of Truth aka the Helper in the Name of Jesus Christ to those who live their lives in submission and obedience to the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ.
b. The Helper, the Spirit of Truth, will teach the followers of Jesus Christ all things and bring to their remembrance all that Jesus Christ has taught.
c. The Helper, the Spirit of Truth, will bear witness about Jesus Christ to each of Jesus's own followers.
d. The Helper, the Spirit of Truth, will convict those who are in the world regarding sin, righteousness, and judgment.
e. The Helper, the Spirit of Truth, will guide each one of Jesus Christ's followers into all Truth for He will only speak of that which He hears of Jesus Christ and declare that which is to come concerning Jesus Christ(and His Kingdom)
f. The Helper, the Spirit of Truth, will glorify Jesus Christ, for He will take what belongs to Jesus Christ to declare to each of His followers
g. All that the Father has belongs to Jesus Christ and as such the Helper will teach to Jesus Christ's followers only that which is of Jesus Christ.

So, following this, of what meaning is this "falling under anointing" claimed by those who wrote of this Mary to Jesus Christ or the Kingdom of God? undecided

Jesus Christ did many miracles but never caused people to roll themselves in the dirt in want of Him, so of what "value" is this "falling under anointing" ritual to the lives of those who supposedly fall under it and to the Kingdom of God in general? undecided

All of them at once! You must be a comedian to think that they fell because they were taken aback or in shock!
Moreover, I think you can make your point without having to be abusive

Why not? Is there a rule that dictates that all cannot be shocked at an utterance such as that of Jesus at the time? undecided
1. When Jesus finished praying, he left with his followers and went across the Kidron Valley. He went into a garden there, his followers still with him.
2 Judas, the one responsible for handing Jesus over, knew where this place was. He knew because Jesus often met there with his followers.
3 So Judas led a group of soldiers to the garden, along with some guards from the leading priests and the Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns, and weapons.
4 Jesus already knew everything that would happen to him. So he went out and asked them, “Who are you looking for?”
5 They answered, “Jesus from Nazareth.” He said, “I am Jesus.”[a] (Judas, the one responsible for handing Jesus over, was standing there with them.)
6 When Jesus said, “I am Jesus,” the men moved back and fell to the ground.
7 He asked them again, “Who are you looking for?” They said, “Jesus from Nazareth.”
8 Jesus said, “I told you that I am Jesus. So if you are looking for me, let these other men go free.”
9 This was to show the truth of what Jesus said earlier: “I have not lost anyone you gave me.”
10 Simon Peter had a sword, which he pulled out. He struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.)
11 Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword back in its place! I must drink from the cup[b] the Father has given me.” - John 18 vs 1 - 11
The passage above clearly indicates that Jesus Christ was quite aware of their mission that evening, and so He boldly stepped to them and announced Himself as the one they had come to arrest. And as you clearly see there, the men stepped backward, meaning they, of their own power, stepped backward and likely stumbled from the surprise of seeing the criminal they came to bundle up and away stand firm with authority. undecided

Suggesting that there was some mysterious anointing that magically caused the men to fall is ridiculous since it is unlike Jesus Christ and served no purpose as far as His arrest and mission. The very same soldiers who arrested Him were recorded to have beaten and humiliated him that same night. Na so your magical anointings dey be? undecided

Slain in the spirit is unbilical, truth is the pentecostal/charismatic movements left the bible to pursue experience.
The bible warned the church to guarded against error and should protect the purity of the doctrine of christ elsewhere is lead astray like eve was.

What a ridiculous story! Why would Jesus Christ have needed to say this? undecided

So, today is another Sunday and I'm just chilling at home despite the fact that there are plenty of churches around my area and they are just booming with their church programs and all that... Well I'm not much of a church person, never been.

Now, i'm just pondering on an issue that has always been on mind on the few occasions that I've been to church and see people fall under the anointing.

I've always been astounded by people who "fall under the anointing". I've never really believed in it, never really believed there's anything wrong with me that needs to be casted out and I've never fallen under the anointing.... Well except for one occasion where the pastor had really spinned me around till I became dizzy before pushing me down to fall on the floor, but I immediately got up because I didn't want people to conclude that I had fallen under the anointing or maybe think that there was something wrong with me.

So my question to the believers in the house is: Do people really fall under the anointing? (or do they just pretend to be under the anointing?) Why have I never fallen under the anointing? (could it be because I don't believe in it or probably because the demon in me or whatever they cast out is too big for the pastors.. Lol) People like me who have never fallen under the anointing can also share their stories and tell Me what they think.
It is all a show, people succumbing to herd mentality all so they can fit it with the rest of the group. undecided
