Good day group..
.I need your advice.

I am Currently working in Lagos on a salary of 50 to 55k on a 12 hrs(8am to 8pm for a shift and 8pm to 8am for other shift). You can find a place to sleep over if you decided not to go house. But before next year there will definitely be an opportunity in the same organization to be a permanent staff on a salary of 80k on the same 12hrs but with a monthly leave, 13 month salary, incentive bonus.

There is also another opportunity in Ibadan on a salary of 50k and a daily meal but 7 to 3pm for morning shift and 2pm to 10pm for the other shift, a day leave every week, after a year the organization will be paying 13 month salary, accomodations and if I decided not to stay over, just 200 naira to my place in Ibadan, bonuses every festive period both cash and food.

Thinking of going for the Ibadan job and using the remaining hours after work to learn a skill because self employment is the key. But career wise, I need your advice.

The Lagos job is my line of field while Ibadan is deviation to another field

Oluyole straight grin grin grin Ibadan where you can negotiate transport fare, awon Oko iyami, Opoo rowooo mi grin grin grin grin

Guy, my candid advice is move to ibadan based on this point:
1. You are learning another skill apart from the one you do in lagos.
2. It will gives you rooms to learn more skills due to shifting time.
3. Your current job will lead to monotonuos since is the same routine.
4. Fine money is a motivation to change jobs but you need to look at what lies in the future for you. Ireoooo

How can you work for someone 12 hours per day and be receiving N50,000 per month in Anambra when selling groundnut on a two-by-two table will fetch him more than N100,000 per month?

Is like you prefer slavery to independence.

On this, I think it is better said or described by someone who had lived in both cities before. I can tell you categorically that LAGOS is overrated. Choose IBADAN.
Because I grew up in Lagos, schooled and worked in Lagos before transferring to Ibadan by my employer. Thank God I accepted the movement even though it was initially looked as punishment to me.
Cost of leaving in Ibadan is very low compared to Lagos.
Feeding in Ibadan is relatively cheaper than Lagos.
Cost of Transportation in Ibadan is still lower than Lagos because it is only in Ibadan you can still pay #100 even #50 in some routes on taxis or buses.
It is only in Ibadan you see numerous Mama puts or Buka where foods such Amala with Gbegiri and Ewedu together with assorted meat are relatively cheap compared to Lagos. grin
Ibadan is the home for food market such as Bodija, Oje, Academy, Oja Oba, Molete ......etc.
For fruits, go to Oje market, for Suya, go to Sabo grin
But let me warn you, Ibadan is filled with lawless taxi drivers whom maintenance of their taxis or cleaning is not in their dictionary. grin Be ready to get yourself wet Wella during raining season while inside as most windows are not working and don't be surprised to see the road under your feet as the floor of some of the taxis are only covered with rubber carpet grin . Ditto to the commercial buses.
Environment, hmmm especially those core Ibadan town such as Beere, etc... I can't explain better. See it yourself grin
In summary, I will advise that you choose IBADAN
Meanwhile, I rep Abuja currently. Hoping to come back as my personal house is in Ibadan.

One simple career rule. If you enter a company and cannot find exotic cars and staff are not well dressed. Please run away. Weight both option which will you think will do the following.
1. Prompt Payment
2. Organizational communication
3. Payment on overtime

If I were in your shoes, I will not think twice before I grab the Ibadan offer with both hands and relocate with immediate effect. Lagos is a glorified city of suffering and smiling.

I worked in Ibadan for 2 years. And I am currently working in Lagos.

If you are moving to Ibadan because of the myth of "lower cost of living", e go shock you. I worked in IB on a salary of 70k and I struggled. And things were not as bad as now. Perhaps, it was me sha.

On the other hand, if you want to live long, go to Ibadan. Lagos is not a city for normal human being to stay.

Finally, if you want to move to IB, ensure that the job provides job security for you. The chance that you will be able to change job or see another job is very slim. And if by any chance the company lay you off, you have to find your way back to Lagos. In Lagos, you are open to more opportunities. And your chance of getting another job is high.

Peace!!

Hahahaha! I have to admit that since I moved to Ibadan in 2016, things have greatly changed...things are now a little bit more expensive, like rent, transportation and entertainment...but Ibadan is still far more favorable to live in than Lagos. For one, little to no traffic on the roads, compared to Lagos. And there are many quiet and conducive places to live in. Food is cheaper. Plus, security here is relatively better than security in Lagos. I lived in Lagos all my life before I moved here in 2016.

Ibadan is one of the fastest growing Cities in Nigeria today.

The city is developing at an alarming pace. More opportunities are opening up in the city.

The cost of living is also going up but it's still cheaper than Lagos.

This is so true. Cost of living has really jumped in the last 5 years... but it is still cheaper than Lagos.

I would prefer you do that of Lagos, because, since the company is going to staff you. Definitely, you'll still have a lot of opportunities in the nearest future rising to the post of a boss.

Please, I need a job in Lagos, can you help a brother please??
