Reflect7, save your words. I read her Purple Hibiscus as a 12 year old. Her Tedtalk on the danger of a single story is undeniably the most captivating gospel against stereotypes I've heard till date. From following her since my childhood till this day, I can tell you there's no reason for her rejection of the National Honour other than the resentment she has for the Nigerian State like every other Igbo person I've met. The last time she spoke at the NBA conference, she said Nigeria does not respect her heroes by making reference at the same meeting to the Late Dora Akunyili who was villified for her good works. Who are the people who killed her husband? Who are the people who attempted to assassinate her? Like every Igbo person, she blamed Nigeria for not honouring Akunyili when it was her very own fake drugs manufacturing brothers that perpetuated the scariest evils against her. From her submission that day, I solidified my conviction that she's not different from other Igbos who use the words " Nigerians" to cover their misdeeds , "Igbo Amaka" to receive commendation and "Biafra" to blackmail. If Biafra was a country, she would never reject Biafra's award even if it was the poorest and most despotic country on Earth. Her greatest influence is Achebe. He hated Nigeria with passion, she does too. There's no hypocrisy here. |

she and her people are battling serious inferiority complex. they should be ignored. she is just like Achebe the Biafran propagandist and faux image launderer |

Reflect7: Your Nigeria has been slaughtering millions of her people without remorse for decades. The ethnic cleansing is on going as we speak. Achebe refused the bloody award because of this.., Chimamanda has also refused the sick award for similar reasons. Take your award and shove down your behind. 3 Likes |

I didn't bother myself to read this post. Why hasn't the OP discuss about the bigotry and wickedness going on in the country? You all just pretend that everything is good because you enjoy from someone else oil/gas revenue. Keep supporting injustice and bad policies, since to be very wicked individual is an envidence of how to play politics some of you accuse others of not knowing how to play. 2 Likes |

Reflect7:go and rest, is it a must to accept what you dislike? Are you going to leave her life for her? She do not want a sugar coated love by accepting what she dislike. She is igbo, we dont pretend to love what we hate. Her rejection of the national honour is a wakeup call for handlers of this nation to re-engineer the nation. 2 Likes |

Reflect7: The above is a vomit from ill-educated and nonsensical Nigerian. Is she from Iraq? The issue about the shithole called Nigeria touches her forbearer's compound. By the way, in the 1977 “An Image of Africa”, Achebe lampooned the Europeans including the members of the committee for the so-called Nobel Prize. In order to spite him, the committee dashed the silly award to a Nigerian in 1986 on Literature when the dude has no novel to his name. As a matter of fact, the Nigerian guy is a playwright. In fact, Achebe indicated he had no need for the nonsensical award. 4 Likes |

gidgiddy: This is your inferiority complex talking. Leave aside the fact that Nigeria is a developing country like 80% of countries on Earth, with an annual budget of 38 billion dollars compared to the USA's 7.6 trillion dollars (making comparisons between the two truly foolish), there are MANY indices you can judge Nigeria by, which are not negative. Africa's largest economy with a GDP of 1.2 trillion dollars calculated by Purchasing Power Parity, the largest and fastest growing middle class in Africa, largest film industry, largest music, fashion and entertainment industry, 4th most powerful military after Egypt, SA, and Morocco, startup and tech capital of Africa, major sporting power of Africa, the cultural capital of Africa, Africa's best educated population and a rising manufacturing power, with substantial manufacturing plants in the motor vehicle industry, ship building, chemicals, iron and steel, petrochemicals, fertilizer, urea, and other sectors. A country projected to become the 3rd most populous nation on Earth after China and India by 2050, meaning she is a veritable magnet for world class level investment in the decades ahead. There is a LOT to be positive about Nigeria and its prospects if you and Adichie cast aside your endless disgruntlement, bitterness, and holier-than-thou pretend piety predicated on nothing. |

Reflect7:This thing seems to pain you this much? Were you this pained when Buhari left Nigeria to Britain to tell the whole world "Nigerian youths are lazy, always looking for free money"? Were you this pained when Buhari made known his biases against the Igbos when je said "I can't treat the ones that gave me 5% and the ones that gave me 97% the same way". Y'all be ranting because someone made a choice that has no national value and the President and his gang have been making bad choices with generational consequences for the entire nation, all these your reasoning didn't come to play. You know one thing about authors, most of their actions are ideologically based including their works. If you understand that clearly, you'd know that Adichie didn't do that because of morality (she's not that qualified), she did that because of her solidarity with her own people who feel mistreated by Buhari. What you wrote there won't make her change that. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Reflect7: I like it that you bolded that part. Obviously your first 3 statement has answered you question but lack of a deep thinking spirit won't let you see it. Now let me ask you this; Did USA and other countries Achebe and Adichie receive awards from kill 3 million of thier people? I'm asking this since your question has to do with crime committed against humanity. Let's start from there. 2 Likes

Nosayer: But her people were mistreated more by the AMERICANS. Are you aware how many millions of Igbos were carted off as slaves and how many were thrown out into the open sea when the ships started to leak? Over a 400 year period? More recently, did the US allies, the British, not supply arms and fighter jets to the Nigerian govt to prosecute the Biafran war, which killed millions of ''her people''? So why is she collecting awards from all these countries which were instrumental to the suffering of her people? Or is she unaware of the nefarious roles these nations have played in the history of ''her people''? In fact those imperialist powers are the REAL threats to her people, as they prop up the local stooges who implement their imperialist agenda. Adichie frowns upon, and shuns the local stooges, while sucking up to the REAL Imperialist oppressors who pull the strings, and gleefully accepts their awards. Why? |

asanausana91: Teni is also an igbo lady and that was why she snubbed the ”presidential handshake”. I wonder how it's so convenient for you folks to tag everyone who isn't cool with the way the country is been manage an igbo person. If Nigeria is living up to every region why should an “igbo person” hate her? I don't have a reason to hate Nigeria but at least I have reasons to dislike the government of the day. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Antivirus92: I'm yoruba and definitely for chimamanda and teni, I fully supported their actions.. Infact I wish a lot of people will do what teni did to our leaders. Chimamanda was even lenient for refusing instead of coming and refusing it at the point of presentation to send a clear message.. The only people pained or hurt with teni and chimamanda action are tinubu urchins and fulani terrorist... They kill you everyday and still expect you to bow to them.. Nigerians have been so mentally destroyed that they now see their chains as jewelry that they are willing to defend it wit their last blood.. So pls dont confuse every Tinubu supporter with us real yorubas.. The only people that turned everything to tribal slurs are tinubu rascals so know that distiction 3 Likes |

Your post made no sense to me.is chimamanda a native of united states or Nigeria? You are talking about alleged crime that happened some centuries ago, even before she was born. Chimamanda reasons for such rejection is very simple and clear. *The killing of women and children in southern Kaduna *Denials of state policing to stop crime across the country *Lopesided appointment across the country *Federal government telling world bank to focused development to the north alone *Federal government continuous disobedience of Court orders And so many atrocious act 2 Likes |

Reflect7: This is just a rant of an illiterate.. The first responsibility of a country is to its people.. Every country is guilty of imperialism one way or the order even the great oyo empire, Benin empire, zazzau empire, fodio empire all raded other communities for the benefit of their own, it's human though unjust but it's what catapult human development, the aberration come when you now stop raiding outside your territories but instead killing and stealing from those you are supposed to protect.. Every sane citizen of such a nation are suppose to be up in arm to ask for justice and civil disobedience is a very mild mild way and should be commended.. This is not about about hatred but reality, the country is dying and all you can still think of is defending your oppressors.. I hope we all learn 2 Likes |
