What did they do?

Touts increased their activities in Alaba market and that's the principal reason.

Lagos State government has to deal with the threat of touts and jobless youths, otherwise massive disasters are waiting to happen.

In the recent years, touts have set up road blocks within and around Alaba international market to exhort the traders there. Mind you, Alaba market has Nigerians of all tribes either owning shops or plazas there, carrying out their businesses.

Aside from the touts, other extortioners are the local government staff, the police, army and Navy. The touts also tell you that they represent the Oba.

The major areas of contention are Volkswagen bus stop, Iyana Iba, the front of Ojo local government, armoured tank junction right in front of the main gate, St. Peter's junction and the food market.

Over the years, touts made it their full time business to extort money front trucks laden with containers, 20/40ft. They stoptbe trucks in front of Volkswagen and collect what they call Navy, Oba, Army, Police and theirs. The charges differ for the 20ft and 40ft containers. They change the rates at will. No truck can leave that point without payment.

Next the truck moves to the front of the local government, the armoured tank, etc for more payments.

For those who carry their goods by hand, it is stress when they arrive at Iyana Iba. Touts are there, forcing everyone to pay ground money.

When you sum this up with the problems with the economy, you find that the cost of doing business in Alaba is overboard.

These touts force everyone, irrespective of tribe to pay. No one is free from them. Their rates are never stable and they refuse to listen to the vouce of reasoning.

I have not read the story or received any information from any of my friends in that place but I know this will happen anytime before now.

Immediately Tinubu won Primary election, few hours later there was an announcement that Alaba International will not be opened the following day till about 2 pm to enable traders register for PVC. That following day the few INEC registration units were overwhelmed by unexpected large crowd which disrupted INEC registration activities and almost led to fight between some residents and traders. INEC staff, Local Council Staff and area boys were not aware of the traders directive for their members to lock shops for registration that day. Trouble was averted that day.

For years, I know there will be problems at Alaba and not Alaba alone but the entire Lagos and in future Ogun State. The political situation also compounds the problem.

My friend that was at Alaba on Friday told me on Monday that most of his friends were discussing the issue of KANU's freedom after he has been discharged by Court.

When people are lazy and out of laziness sold their inheritance and squandered the money only to return back to the area to constitute nuisance as Area boys this is what you get. Having said this, the settlers must also obey Constituted Authority- Kings, Chiefs, Local government authority. The constituted authority must not use area boys to collect levy and must work together with the traders Union in the market.

Thugs cannot be harassing hardworking traders. Some of them died out of stress. Traders are not happy losing their members to business stress created by Nigeria situation. Again, they are not happy Peter Obi is not a contender to the presidency as it is now clear and KANU has not be released.

These are what in my opinion are the invincible background of the problems.

In Lagos state there's a place called Lagos, this place is what was the capital you refer to.

I'm from Lagos Epe but my ancestors were from Epe also but Epe was not Lagos then. That's why my late grandfather refer to Epe as ijebu and Eko as Eko.

Even Ibadan and Ogun state are enjoying the close proximity of Lagos state, So Lagos or Lagos state enjoyed the benefits of FCT of Nigeria as Lagos or Lagos State...

We all know that northerners moved all Federal ministries to Abuja including the Nigeria Ports Authority and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority to Abuja by 1990 meaning Lagos no longer had the multiplier effects of port and airport revenues

Because there is a Federal port or airport in lagos does not mean that Lagos takes the revenue. Got it? Hang on I am not done.

In 1999 when Tinunbu and the Alliance for Democracy took over in Lagos the IGR of lagos was 600m monthly and the population was 7m. Today in 2022 that IGR is 45bn monthly and the population is 25m. All this massive change under the same party from 1999 - 2022.

So the question I want to ask you is - if the FCT status and its subvention and taxes left lagos state between 1976 - 1985 where did the growth in IGR come from? If it came from business activities and not the FGN - why have other states not been able to replicate it? Remember that the government of Lagos state was in opposition to the PDP at the centre from 1999 - 2015. So how did the FGN now develop lagos between 1999-2015? In fact the obasanjo led PDP FGN refused to pay lagos its statutory allocation for over 6 years!

Ok so it is the hard working people from the east or the north that developed lagos abi? Please tell me what lagos listed companies they own on the Nigeria stock exchange? Or is it trading and building of houses that increased IGR? How much tax is paid by this group - personal income tax o. Remember that company tax is Federal tax.

1. There was a comprehensive master plan that has been in place since 1999 that EVERY administration in Lagos has followed. No other state has had that stability.
2. Lagos is conducive for business because there are no laws or practices that victimise people from anywhere on the grounds of tribe, religion or gender. How many areas of Nigeria welcome non indigenes. Some neighbouring states are even exchanging hostilities in the SE. When oil companies were forced to go to Rivers, Bayelsea and oil producing states did they not run back to Lagos when MEND and Delta Avengers started on them. Which company in its right mind would want to be haunted by BH in the North East or Ipob/UGM in the SE?

Lagos is what Nigeria should be, a detribalized state that does not victimise non residents and which has developed the best infrastructure in Nigeria. Period.

By the way, I am not trying to convince you, I am merely using your contribution to memorialize the facts. Someone else might find this useful years from now. I realise that the Lagos was FCT argument is more of an emotional argument because people don't like Tinubu or SW people and so want to refuse credit. That's fine. But attributing lagos success to (let us even call it 15 years of) FCT when it has not been FCT for 37 years and of that 37 years 23 years have been under the same AD, ADP, APC party is unintelligent.

Lagos grew its IGR from N600 million monthly to N50 billion monthly between 1999 to 2021. That's a 70fold growth in IGR. Meanwhile the seat of power has been relocated to Abuja at least 10 to 15years before 1999. Which other state comes close?

Read well and understand why Lagos is a p acesetter in Nigeria and you'll probably understand why the Portuguese picked Lagos too. It wasn't the federal government that developed Lagos, they don't have the money.
Immediately Nigeria shifted from agriculture to oil, the seat of power was relocated to Abuja. If you attached the development in Abuja to proceeds of resources from all over the country, you would have been right.

FESTAC 77, the FG used 400million dollars to build festac today that same amount is over 1.5 biilion dollars and the money was from crude oil from the south-south, that is just one of the examples, same with 3rd mainland bridge, airport,stadium and so on, so it is a lot of investment from the government, these were landmark projects that helped Lagos a lot...
