Basically, one cannot buy 25 kg of rice wholesale at N30000 , and then sell it at N5000 in the name of helping the poor, while government only pays him N10000 leaving a loss of N15000 overall.

At some point, you would induce rice scarcity.

That is Nigeria for you. And that's why we have fuel crisis all the time since at least 1990.

I laugh you.

Have you ever left your state to see illegal refinaries up close and personal?

How do you think they will build a legal refinery without the aide of government, you think building a refinary is build a mud house ?

Have you seen what a standard refinary looks like ?

Where do you think they will get money from?

Who will give you such loan ?

The government has to convert the Kpo fire into modular/mini it is safer . Cost between 1b to 3b

At least then legalize it shikena
I have tried. Enjoy your cheap fuel. Na why you vote Buhari twice. cheesy

bros, sorry but, i don't think u get sense... Nigeria isn't the only country paying subsidy on fuel, Russia does, Saudi does etc... Still their national companies are making MAD profits while NNPC hasn't remitted a dime in years...Has useless refineries with redundant workers collection billions in salaries....What pisses me off d most, Is NNPC has even no idea the amount of fuel the country requires, don't even know even if pipelines are getting burst to steal crude....Even d customs boss is marveled at their incompetence

Thanks a lot for abusing me...when I did not abuse you. Nice./

Nigeria isn't the only country paying subsidy on fuel, Russia does, Saudi does etc.
Because they can afford it

1.Russia is a exporter of indiustrial, agro, and other products...as well as gas. And oil. And has a higher tax to gdp ratio than we do.

2.Saudi has 40 million people, and an oil output ten times that of Nigeria. As such they have more oil money per capita than Nigeria. That is why they can afford subsidies.(We have 200 million people.). SLS pointed that out 11 years ago.

3.And even then they don't sell fuel below their equivalent of N200 .

.. Still their national companies are making MAD profits while NNPC hasn't remitted a dime in years...
Yes, because

1.They earn enough income from other sources to prop up their oil companies, export gas to the lucrative European market (Rossiya) or they earn far far too much money from oil to prop up their oil companies (Saudi)...plus cost of producing crude is lower in Saudi than Nigeria.

Remember Saudi produces ten times more oil than we do. Rossiya...8 times. More cash than we do, and in Saudi's case..smaller population.

[/quote]Yes, when you force NNPC to sell fuel at N175 per liter when it should be sold at N492-500 per liter or more, a lot of corruption happens. Hinder people's ability to make a profit, then you support things like smuggling, sabotage, corruption, stealing, etc..because people like to make money.

You want cheap fuel. There is nothing worng with that....but the sad thing is, it can't happen because people want to be paid and people want to make profits. Bigi man and smallie man.

This argument is stale, u pay minimum wage of 30k, no constant electricity, no security, no proper healthcare & U expect d citizens to surfer because ur boss wan enjoy..First, let them put all d necessary infrastructure in place, then Remove d subsidy....Also d smuggling and whatever can be curtailed by paying subsidy at d pump instead of waiting for corrupt NNPC & marketers to inflate litres of fuel consumed & workers at d border smuggling to other countries.

Imaginary boss......projection much?

We did that....did not work.

Plus, the only way you can incentivize domestic refining...like any business...is allow the people involved...MAKE A PROFIT.

...Also d smuggling and whatever can be curtailed by paying subsidy at d pump instead of waiting for corrupt NNPC & marketers to inflate litres of fuel consumed & workers at d border smuggling to other countries.
Go and read what a subsidy is all about. This bit shows that you don't understand what it is really all about.

Paying subsidy is done at the pump so to speak...and is why we have smuggling. Because at the end, people are going to see that it costs N175 HERE, and N400 in Benin, Niger and chad and cameroon, and do the math.

This here shows how shallow U are... subsidy is not paid at d pump... marketers just say they have imported so litres of fuel & d govt pays d balance (currently NNPC is incharge of all these)..What I mean subsidy at d pump, they buy at original market price all d way to d filling station..a sort of credit(NIN & d enaira wallet would help setting dis up) should be given to citizen monthly to used on fuel 'only' like say 10k per month on only one vehicle per family....So it's useless to smuggle a full tank or even jerricans fuel to our neighbors cause they lack access to dat 'credit' dat would subsidise d fuel
