Should I say congratulations or I am sorry.
Well... I'd say both:
Congratulations to the UK and the 91 med doctors.
While
I am sorry for the Nigerian government

This was the scenario years ago. The situation is really scarier now than ever. Simply because of the failure of the political class to better the lot of this beleaguered country while the downtrodden masses continue to be @ the receiving end of all these shit. Nigeria, it is time to decide right.

Well, the Nigeria Doctors are lured by the UK because thire own UK Doctors are being lured by US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand offering better pay and work life balance.

Therefore perhaps the issue is the morality of doctors putting personal issues such as relative pay levels before patients wellbeing.....

There was no bond signed that they must work for Nigerian Government, especially when their parents toiled to train them, you expect them to continue with this government that would owe them and not pay them salaries.

They are free to work anywhere they choose, if the government want to keep them pay them with they would be paid abroad, we have the money, instead of paying them well they prefer the money is stolen by politicians.

please this is not an issue for discussion, it is good for us since we the masses would not do anything about then let it be that way

Have you seen what the so-called Colonial masters are doing? They are taking away a big chunk of our healthcare force and will romancing Nigeria government.

If these Foreign countries mean well for Nigeria, they will repatriate those 91 doctors back to Nigeria to serve their mother’s land.

They should take their parents along if they know what is good for them and their parents.

Those staying behind will not abandon their own parents when critical needs arise wink

Ideally, the situation in Nigeria that some of you attribute as contributing to doctors leaving Nigeria, should be that which not only keeps Nigeria Doctors in Nigeria but attract doctors from other Nations. This is since, ideally, Doctors should be running towards porverty not running from it.

With the kain subsidy on tertiary education in Nigeria, Federal Government practically sent these doctors to school, because no where in the world do you study medicine and surgery with such small school fees being paid by MBBS students in Nigeria Universities.

They should be giving back to the society that train then, not run from it.

Education is expensive in advanced countries oh

Their is no where in the world except Nigeria A Doctor is been trained with less than $1000 as fee all through he/her stay in the university. Unless government gives you a scholarship or you are under a student loan... Nigeria have a good plan for everyone but lack of white paper implementation.

Absolutely correct. See all the adverts from banks, they are mostly in IT field. Most IT staff are moving to Canada to become project managers, Actuarist, business analyst and change management specialist

In a democracy, it's not possible.
Except we want to change our system of government.

Plus what about doctors and ICT specialists who schooled in private universities? These ones don't owe the government a dime, as they paid so much money to acquire knowledge.

Agreement could be made with doctors who finished from Nigerian universities to work for a specified number of years before they can work abroad.

But this will cause another problem of salary delay by government, cos they know they signed an agreement to serve for a while.

Nigerian government are wicked. That's a fact.

A doctor friend of mine, before he japa-ed, suffer wan kill am. I kid you not.

But as e reach UK baba fresh up within 3 months.

For the very fact that top countries like the UK or Canada accept our Nigerian doctors and even go further to give licence to them proves once again that we have a very good medical training institution but lacking in adequate and substantial remuneration!
A doc in UK earns an average sum of 4k pounds monthly which is more than 3 million naira while the ones here can't even get up to a million naira....now you can begin to wonder why parents go at any length to borrow funds in order for their kids who are in the medical field to travel out of the country to Canada or UK!
Very soon we might wake up and discover that all the doctors and nurses have left this country!
If we do not get things right by voting the right candidate next year, the amount of people that will travel out of Nigeria will be mind blowing and unprecedented!

You are just being sentimental by bringing morality into the equation.
There is occupational mobility of labor and there is geographical mobility of labor. Both are encouraged by the need for a worker to better his or her lot.

Patients wellbeing you say?
For a child that was sent to a medical school thru toil, labor and parental suffering and anguish, if such does not japa to better the lot of their parents, when then do you expect such a child to payback?

The problem is the monster our govt. and system created. Let us consider the Doctors wellbeing as much as we consider that of the patient.

There is no need arguing like NGIGE, Ehanire or Lai Mohammed.

Who told you a doctor in Nigeria is trained with less than $1000 as fee thru their stay in the Uni?
Please get in touch with medical students in public universities first then those of private before you regurgitate what NGIGE and Ehanire seem to have vomited into you.

Entrance level fee into ordinary school of nursing in UCH as at today is about N350k.
I will not mention the fees for medicine at Babcock, Redeemers and others

Argue with fact.

You will first ask why they are leaving!
Is their renumeration package better or worse?
What is the cost of living in Nigeria compared to countries they are going to?
Do we have enough jobs to cater for most of the doctors or nurses?
Why are the doctors given the same hazard allowance amount that was used in the 80s?
