seguno2:Yes, APC is a useless party, but on university fees, Fashola was right to raise fees...because at the time that hike happened, the PDP government had refused to fufill ASUU's 2009 agreement with them Same as APC is now doing, now in office. Any governor who raises fees is doing the right thing. Universities have two choices for increased funding......either raise fees, or continue charging poor fees, and have lowered standards. At the end, whichever the party, either federal government finds trillions of naira in extra funding...or fees go up. |

diplomat058:Shouting IGR up and down. Yet, the populace is still impoverished and infrastructural decay here and there. Of what use is IGR when it has little or no impact? |
| Re: Soludo's Tax Policies Choking — Schools, Traders Protest by Nobody: 10:03am On Nov 11, 2022 |
Umunze1stSon:Again, the thing is, Ogun is not charging enough IGR...and no I am not defending the state. It is run and has been run badly...and their low IGR is a sign of bad governance. Most states are not raising enough IGR to run well. Nigeria as a whole is not raising enough IGR. As a nation, we collect taxes from about 30% of the economically active. Our tax to gdp is 8% (lower than Niger republic)..and our oil revenue cannot sustain us , even if we remove stealing and corruption. Also, IGR is meant to build better roads, schools, and other infrastructure. It is not meant to be given as dash to poor people..it is meant to give people infrastructure to yank themseives out of poverty. |

You can tell this fellow is a Yoruba Muslim by his focus on IGR. Nowhere else in the world is IGR used as an important factor in Socioeconomic development outside of Tinubu urchins. The development of an economy is supposed to be tied to the development of individuals and corporates. But Tinubu urchins are economic illiterates and Stockholm Syndrome victims. The State(Tinubu) should be rich while the citizens should be poor. The only people who should be doing fine are people receiving crumbs from the Master. That is the economic mindset of Tinubu and his urchins The Yoruba Nation was not like this pre 1999. They were a honourable and hardworking race but Tinubu has surreptitiously installed the almajiri system into the Yorubas in the SW. Omonile and Agbero culture is at its highest now What a shame diplomat058: |

Realist12:what you have succeeded in saying is that soludo is not a politician, because how will soludo make a statement that will be detrimental to his political career? But I know soludo statement is rather political than reality if not, how will obi who handed over to obiano now be a problem to soludo? Why is soludo not criticizing the man who handed over to him? I no this will make no sense to you because agenda must agend,I pray someone political career is not at verge of extinction because of miscalculation. |

Odin13:Tax is important yes, but to carry gun to go collect tax? That is criminal, and to tax people who are struggling to feed themselves from their meagre shops is immoral, Have you paid your own tax? Do you even know how taxes should be paid or collected? |

What is with the carrying of guns to go collect taxes? And the taxing of shoemakers, barrow pushers and keke drivers is quite ridiculous, how much do they earn to tax them? Soludo will not get any money from these kinda tax regim, if you tax them today tomorrow they will not come out, then what? Soludo should go and try this nonsense on taxing signages at places like Old moto parts Nkpor or new parts Nkpor and see if his gun carrying thugs will not be beaten up |

Kobonaire234:Raise fees for universities without free education for all children in primary and secondary schools? So what are they doing with the IGR collected from the people, as well as allocations and loans? Did Awolowo and the LOBOO governors have so much money when they provided free education, as every japa country still does? Realdeals: |

Right from the days of the British Colonial Masters the SE has been the part of the Country the most reluctant to pay Taxes Soludo has a tough Job on his hands I would advise him to Charge a 30% Owambe Party Tax on all parties costing more than N2Million or any Party where more than 3 Cows are killed |

Sammy07:It’s understood if he wants to drive an increase in IGR but must he do it outrageously? Imagine changing a fee from 6,000 to 30,000… calculate the percentage of increase. Forget politics for a second… do you think it’s justified? |

zionstaar75:Your cousin is not the only person paying taxes in the UK, i have being paying taxes since i turned 18 in the UK, not every wages are taxed, if your cousin wants to work 80 hours a week he will pay high taxes, but if he works 20 hours a week he will not pay taxes, Soiudo is going about forcing people who are struggling to make ends meet to pay taxes. Did your cousin also tell you that he doesn't pay for hospital bills and he can receive out of work benefit if he wasn't working? Is Soludo offering these benefits in Anambra? Soludo is a goon |

Dreal1247:People have short memories. I remember in 2017,many Northerners were very unhappy with PMB's poor management of the economy. You need to take in consideration that Soludo is first and foremost a technocrat before all else. In addition, he is just no ordinary technocrat but an economist. By 2019 however, the deep recession that occurred between 2015-2017, had long been forgotten. They voted enmasse for him again If Soludo can deliver what some may consider to be outstanding results, he should get re-elected. What I foresee these onerous taxes doing in the short term is to give votes to Peter Obi next year. |

Soludo is a disappointment. He has brought the tinubu model of excessive taxation. IGR for the sake of IGR. Wuruwuru to the answer economics. He does not hold a candle to Peter obi. Valentine Ozigbo should run for governorship in 4yrs time and kick out this clown. |

Realist12:Peter obi is the reason why he is governor today. And not because Peter obi was a corrupt strongman like Tinubu that installed his puppets. Peter obi retired the pdp strongmen from anambra politics and set a positive legacy that apga has benefited from till this day. Soludo is rubbishing that legacy. The legacy that gave him his mandate. |
