I applied for Visa at the Egyptian embassy in Abuja last month, first of all all, the information online is mostly wrong. You get accurate information when you get to the embassy, no need for a travel insurance and you need a yellow card to apply. Submission days is Monday to Wednesday, 10am to 12noon. Be there on time as you get numbers as you come although the applicants are not many, less than 20.
Anyway, I was told the embassy will contact me within 3weeks after the date of submission, 6 weeks later, no word from them, I was going to see the pyramids and was wondering what would have happened of I had something serious to do in Egypt.I asked my sister to withdraw my passport from the embassy and she got it without any issues.
If you do not have travel history, don't bother to apply, the Nigerians working there basically asked for my old passport and when I said I did not bring it, he said how are we supposed to know your travel history? Most people there had 2 passports held together with rubber band, we were 16 people there that day and I think I was the only one with a single passport.
It is generally not a place to try your luck with Visa.

In addition to Cleopatra`s post which happens to be my girl; she forgot to mention the expensive flight to abuja and forgot the very harsh behaviour of embassy employees. Holiday was lost, because of these slow working usesless employees. As a German I once spent a beautyfull holiday in Egypt. But as my girlfriend is not wanted in your third world muslim Country I will never go back, And by the way; Bleep your embassy!

I was in Abuja for about 7 weeks, I couldn't even withdraw my passport the normal way, I had to pay this same guy some amount to help me retrieve it, after trying for a week with no result.
