It was the correct decision. Adesanya could no longer defend himself and was at risk of serious injury. As the losing champion he is of course entitled to a rematch.

I'm guessing you're a casual observer of combat sports. When a fighter shows signs of being unable to defend himself the ref is obligated to end the match.

Adesanya took over 6 blows without being able to raise his guard. He was clearly going to get seriously hurt if it continued.

What Adesanya said was he would have preferred to go out on his shield - that is, to take his beating like a man, but the ref is obliged to take safety into account.

He lost because he put his work more in his movement than in his punches and once the guy watched all his fights he saw his weakness the leg. Once that leg was gone no more dancing.
