It recently occurred to me that there's high chances that I might have my student Visa application denied because of the wrong/contracting date of birth that I'm having on my documents.

I made a mistake during the application of my international travelling passport. In it, I have 14/04/1996 which is quite different from my real DOB 14/04/1993 that I have in all my schooling documents ranging from Waec certificate to degree.

Though I have successfully traveled a couple of times with this passport without issues. Also I have applied for both UK and USA Visa with the passports which means that my data has been captured.

But this time around, I'm considering traveling through the student route and which I know it will require a lot of documentations checking.

The DOB on my Waec certificate is boldly 14/04/1993 while the passport is 14/04/1996.

Please what can I do?
Is correcting the DOB on the passport the right choice? What implications will this have on my chances of reapplying for UK and USA Visa in the future?

U have travelled with it.....that means u knew it was wrong data all along and went ahead with it...u will likely go chop 10 years ban once u come out clean....its not a bad idea though as it will correct ur issues but only cause delay

Another option is to maintain your 1996.....If your WAEC is the only certificate that carries your date of birth.... U can avoid presenting it by using IELTS for English proficiency.....

I have seen some people use sworn affidavit to explain DOB and name discrepancy on certificate.......urs might be believable since u have previous travel document already in the system with 1996......changing ur data with all embassies u travel to and with the Nigerian immigration is a very long thing

I strongly advise that you kindly exercise patience. Someone that I know waited for close to 3 months before getting it.

Hold on....u cant just contact them randomly...

Sort ur NIN and passport first with immigration .....when ur passport age has plum with ur other documents..apply for a course or job to watever country u want...

... get addmision and apply for visa....it is at the point of apllying for visa u will add a cover note explaining your situation in details...

Attach all ur old passport so they can see u did it whem u were minor......apply with enough time cos this ur kimd apllication get k-leg and expect ban...or nothing may even happen.. oyinbo like whwn people talk truth

My NIN is actually carrying my real DOB 14/04/1993 and as you suggested,all I need to do is getting a new passport if it's not going to affect me later on in future.

So here's the thing, i applied to the U.S 5 years go 2017, and got a visa. i went on vacation and came back after after 10 days.
the Year of birth on my passport was 1985 (correct age.)


in 2019 the visa expired, and i tried to renew, on same passport but unfortunately got denied. (this was during the trump era when getting a visa was extremely difficult.


in 2020, i applied for a new passport (B series) (as old passport had expired), there was a mistake, and the year of birth on the new passport is 1989. day and month is still the same, only the year of birth changed. i tied to modify the year of birth back to my correct age 1985, but the people at the passport office say Age cannot be modified on this new b series passport.

here goes my dilema........ i want to apply for a US visa now, and im confused on what to do, as The records i have with them (U.S embassy) for my approved and denied visa is 1985 and my current passport has 1989. (day and month of birth is the same)

how do i navigate this? do i apply with my current passport (which reads 1989) and tell them there was an error on it? or what do i do??

Forget ....this ur own no be problem.... people have discrepancy onntheir WAEC all the time

What u need it for is english language proficiency...so You can always use IELtS to prove english language...so u dont have to present your WAEC to any school if u are afraid...


Even if u use it....and the Univeristy u apply to spot it.....respond to them say na mistake from WAEC....worst...they will ask u to present sworn afidavit from a high court.... u no get problem

Bros....U shot urself in the leg oooo

..immigration office cannot make mistake of 85 to 89 if u ddnt register 89 on ur NIN....the applocation wont even go through at point of registering if there is a discrepancy in NIN DOB and inputed age on the system...

U cant travel with that passport oooo..if say the first time u travel to the US..u were a minor...then we can easily explain that ur parents uses the age and u dont know why but u want to correct it....but u were an adult in 2017...u might be banned for deception...

Still u can always change back to 85...This type of change comes from abuja..and it very expensive like 400k because of too many people to bribe... and u have to first change ur DOB on NIN back to 85...

Or u maintain ur new age...and avoid US and her sister countries like the UK canada and australlia

You don’t have to disturb yourself, go to Abuja with all your documents that have your real age, including waec cert and degree cert, they’ll get it changed and you’ll be given a new passport, it’s doesn’t affect your immigration history with the previous passport that Carrie’s the old age, it might take sometimes in Abuja only if you have a legit plug. All the best

i Agree 100% with you, so, ive actually corrected the age on my NIN now to 1985, the major blocker right now is the passport office at abuja, they say they it is hard to modify age on the new passport (the one with NIN) right now im looking for a link in abuja that can help me get this done, i dont even mind paying the amount as long as it can be done.

Go to immigration office in your location...and ask them to link you up with someone in Abuja. That's the only way u can avoid being scammed

To change any info on your Passport:-

Go to the immigration office in your state and talk to them. They are going to link you up with the Abuja immigration connection, and you are going to pay around 150k or more depending on what info you want to change.

In my own case I changed DOB & Last name which cost about 160k without flight $ and I no spend reach 45mins in Abuja to capture and confirm the new updated info

To change even 1 letter on your passport you must reach Abuja.

My people i need help too. I also applied for Canada tourist visa in 2020 which they later returned my passport back to me with a note inside it. They said they will contact me whenever they need the passport back. Because it was during COVID. Unfortunately they sent a mail to me last year June to bring my passport for visa and i never checked the email because it was an old email i have new email that i use now. I never believed they will still contact me and in the mail they gave me 30 days ultimatum to bring my passport. I missed the deadline. To date, you have failed to comply with our request for submission of the following documents: Passport) that was how i missed the visa. The big problem now is  the year of birth on the old passport is not my real age. I have 7 months left on it to expire and i have gotten a new passport with the correct year of birth. The old passport carries 1985 and i have corrected it to my real Year of Birth which is 1990. All my educational certificates,BVN, NIN, Birth Cert, Passport. carries my real age (1990). Now i want to reapply again with my wife and kid but this time around not a tourist visa, we are applying through Study for a masters program and my wife will be the main applicant. I don’t know if it will affect me or not. I am seriously confused. Someone should advise me please.
