GloriousGbola:The highlighted is wrong. I wish one of your listeners knew that. The Yoruba language, just like the English language and many other languages in Europe and around the world, uses the Roman alphabets (also Latin alphabets). Here's a history of the Roman alphabets: https://www.britannica.com/topic/Latin-alphabet The English alphabets were developed from Old Latin, the language of the Roman Empire that had colonized Britain in the past. When the British were wise and strong enough to break free from the Roman colonial rule, they translated many of the scientific papers and concepts to English language. You can't invent things using the current model (Western education) in Nigerian schools, where STEM is taught in English. If the Yoruba region would develop in the future, Yorubas would still need to domesticate science and teach it in the mother tongue, just like many advanced countries of the world today had done in the past. It's a no-brainer really. It's because most are still enslaved that's why people would even contest these points. Most Yorubas see English as the primary language and Yoruba as secondary. But a good son of the soil shouldn't rate a foreign language, no matter its level of acceptance and popularity, above his own language. The English don't do it; the French don't do it; the Chinese don't do it; the Arabs don't do it; and many peoples in advanced societies don't downgrade their indigenous culture for a foreign one. But it's always the Africans: They despise their roots and cultures and celebrate foreign ones. Right now, the Christians and the Muslims are making a noise in the churches and the mosques celebrating the culture of Israelites and Arabs respectively, but demonize their own culture. It's no wonder the continent contributes next to nothing in world's development. The way forward to develop science in Yorubaland is to incorporate the teaching of STEM in Yoruba, along with teaching it in English (not only Yoruba). What any reasonable Yoruba should be advocating is restructuring (regional government) or breakup to form Yoruba nation if restructuring isn't given a chance. Anyone sincere person who knows the history of how Nigeria was set up by GB understands the fact that Nigeria can't work under the current faulty setup. The various tribes, who don't love one another and have little in common, were forced together into an unholy union by the Britons. Restructuring or Yorexit |

A001:How is the Yoruba language developed from roman characters or Latin characters when we never met the Romans? Or maybe Samuel ajayi crowther went back in time when he translated the Bible into Yoruba? The roman empire collapsed, knowledge was lost and the world went into a dark age So I have to wonder where your the English got their knowledge from roman texts etal comes from This is more of same pseudo intellectual pan africanist story you were touting last week Maybe next you will tell us isaac Newton, charles Babbage, Micheal farady and Co also cribbed ancient roman texts |

GloriousGbola:Lols. You don't know the history of the Yoruba language and the history of Physics and are merely arguing blindly. Yoruba characters are Latin characters, not English characters, because the English characters themselves are Latin characters. Get the basics right first before arguing ignorantly. It's only on Nairaland someone like you would be posting nonsense with confidence. Who told you Newton is the father of Physics? Where you put Galileo, who wrote on many topics in Physics in Roman language that English people like Newton read and translated to English to learn Physics? Physics used to be called natural philosophy and was developed by the philosophers of ancient Greece and ancient Rome. Before you argue with me further, use Google and know the basics. Your ignorance and arrogance is appaling.

Instead of using Google to get themselves educated on a topic they're ignorant about, they would be using pseudo- Nairaland is fast becoming the home of ignorant people. Quora offers more reasonable engagements. |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BanyXchi: 3:17pm On Nov 20, 2022 |
GloriousGbola:what problem do you have with comprehension? There's nothing Pan-african about what he said, the British didn't have any writing system so your A-Z came from latin when the Romans colonized and civilized them, we use the latin characters, just like most people around the world do. |

A001:Is language the major barrier to this or just the general education standard, equipments and all? If you teach in yoruba using the same facilities in place, the result will be the same. Secondly, there's no adequate support for invention in Nigeria, you complain about brain drain, Nigerians are elsewhere all over the world making strides, the difference is facilities and resources not language. If the Yoruba region would develop in the future, Yorubas would still need to domesticate science and teach it in the mother tongue, just like many advanced countries of the world today had done in the past.Wait until a minority tribe in yoruba region replace "English" in your writings with "Yoruba" and it will be a no brainer ![]() The truth remains that Nigeria is too diverse, you can't even achieve this state wide thoughtless of region wide or nation wide. It's because most are still enslaved that's why people would even contest these points. Most Yorubas see English as the primary language and Yoruba as secondary.Lol, you are dumping a lot on the laps of language ![]() I understand the need of heritage and all, but to blame Africa's lack of development on adoption of English language is laughable The way forward to develop science in Yorubaland is to incorporate the teaching of STEM in Yoruba, along with teaching it in English (not only Yoruba). At least, you end up admitting that it can't work Nationwide, for obvious reasons. |

OasisX:Yes oasisx, it's called presidential fundraising. Nigerians are saying bye bye to using our national cake as campaign funds. To using corrupt bullion vans to funding campaigns. The fact that supporters of a well known thief like tinubu will try to mock the Obi presidential fundraising is as foolish as can be. Your mysterious drug lord who nobody can attest to his origin has been using Lagos state Treasury as APC's personal bank but suddenly you have the gall to criticize a people oriented fund raising effort. Have some shame lad. Have some fucking shame. |
