Random fact: In the last two weeks, this thread has been the most active on Nairaland. By 12:00AM on Nov. 8, it was on Page 664. By 6:00PM on Nov. 20, it"s already Page 813. That's 149 pages added in 12 days. An average of 12.33 pages per day. No Nairaland thread has this record. Not even the scandal threads created. At least none that I know of. |

Peter Obi leads in new professional poll. https://www.nairaland.com/7442930/peter-obi-leads-40.37-new#118552566 Nigerians are about to shake the world, they are about to do something extraordinary. Something that will be a modern day miracle. An event that will be told for centuries to come. One where the citizens united and seized power for themselves. A political revolution more than the Cubans could have dreamt, more than Lenin could have envisaged, more than Napoleon could have dreamt. A political tale that would soan for centuries. A lightning rod for other nations, a template for the entire Africa. With one man leading the charge. A humble man, a simple man, an honest man. Nigerians are about make their voice's reverberate and echo around the continent. February 12th cannot come soon enough. We gather dey wait.

Any proof that this is officially from LP? LP actually debunked a campaign rally timetable being spread with the party's logo...this looks a lot like that timetable. OasisX: |

Qatar are a good team! They just need to work on their short + long passing, shooting, movement off the ball, positioning, crossing, pressing, decision-making, set pieces, man-marking, dribbling, fitness, ball control, tackling, counter-attacking, overlapping, running, blocking & scoring goals.. #copied |

Are there still folks here who think that Obi has not penetrated the rural regions? Do people still believe that those in rural areas don't know who obi is? |

Emmynator:I see you've serious issues comprehending simple statements in simple English. Better grab a textbook of English language and polish your English grammar so you can have a sharp understanding of issues. I'd repeat what I said before: Teaching STEM in local languages using local (everyday) examples and simple demonstrations explained in the mother tongue of students will aid their understanding of scientific concepts. In the absence of well-equipped labs, teachers should use simple demos (developed from YouTube videos and mobile apps) as teaching aids. I've said all this before. But it seems you're suffering from chronic alexia. Labs can't be built and developed overnight. It takes time, but incorporating indigenous language into teaching STEM can be done by any willing teacher as it's not hard or expensive to carry out. All it requires is strong will on the part of teachers and a good understanding of the science subject to be taught. If you understand Physics well, for instance, you can teach it in your mother tongue, which everyone flows naturally in. I've experimented with this method before with my students when I was still teaching, and it worked. If you can't understand this again with all I've said, then your problem is irredeemable. |

A001, I asked earlier. Does Islam as a religion forbid alcohol? And if it does, what is the punishment? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by A001: 10:36pm On Nov 20, 2022 |
Donjazet2:Yes, Islam forbids it in strong terms. The religion forbids every intoxicant (that's the English word for Khamr, the Arabic term used in the Qur'an and haadith) that corrupts a person's state of mind as Muslims must be pure and in the right frame of mind at all times that they want to speak with Allah in prayer (Sallah). In Sharia, alcohol, hard drugs, cigarettes are all intoxicants. The punishment for drinking alcohol, according to Sharia, is flogging, following the Sunnah (practice) of Muslims' prophet Muhammad. Qatar aren't really practicing Islam the way Allah and Muhammad command it. If you see someone following the faith like the predecessors of Muhammad (it's impossible for any Muslim to practice Islam like the prophet did) did, you'd shudder. They'd appear very strange and odd to society. Even gambling, playing football are unlawful (haram) in Islam, but Qatar is hosting the World Cup where millions will engage in gambling. I wonder why they don't just permit drinking of alcohol because they already transgressed by hosting the tournament. |

Emmynator:You're missing the point totally. If language of instructions isn't important in STEM, why do developed countries like France, Germany, China, Sweden, Poland teach science in their native languages? I don't know. It seems there's something about being African that makes people reason on a lower frequency of thought. As a human, your natural point of contact with nature is via your mother tongue. If you want to do science well, which is the study of nature, it's best done in your local language, the same medium you relate and interact with nature. This is the primary reason why educators in First World countries teach STEM in indigenous languages (and secondarily in English). There are many papers that have been published on this issue demonstrating why it's much better and beneficial to teach students STEM in their mother tongue. You're not wiser than the scientists all around the world that do science in their native language. The great scientists like Galileo, Copernicus, Einstein, Newton, Marie Curie, Leibnitz, Bose, and lots of popular physicists all did science in their mother tongue. These great minds toed this path because it's the natural thing to do. |

Segedinho..... Politics aside, what Obaseki is doing with the accrued 13% Derivation (since 1999) paid to them by PMB? We can see what Akwa Ibom and Rivers State achieve with it. What of other States that received it too, especially Edo, Bayelsa and Delta? |

How much you understand a subject is directly related to how much you understand the language it is passed across. |

reccy:That was actually a very brilliant take from Jude. Few days ago here, someone was saying that there is nothing like being detribalized and I could only laugh at such an inane take. Myself and I'm sure many others here have spent most of our lives in cities which are by nature diverse. Throughout our lives in this modern era, we've been exposed to different cultures, different habits, different foods, people of diverse backgrounds etc etc. Many of us here had teachers from very diverse backgrounds and denominations, we had friends from different tribes, such that our tribal identities have been shed to a very large extent. For me as an individual, my name may be the only tribal identity I possess. I barely dress in Igbo traditional attire, my meals are a blend of different traditions, I barely speak my language because I'm in a city. I mean I want to think that I'm as detribalized as can be. I'm not defined by my tribal identity and I don't carry my tribe for head. Afterall, my great great grand parents were killing twins for fun. They were sacrificing their fellow human beings to invisible deities, they were segregating amongst themselves (osu). Should I be proud of such a culture?? What is the benefit of belonging to a particular tribe? What is the natural advantage an Igbo person has that a Yoruba person doesn't and vice versa? Tribe is a human construct that needs to he cast away as soon as possible. Tribalism is simply a tool of division amongst the human race. How do you explain a person who claims he's successful in life harboring an opinion such as this?

Donjazet2:For a moment, I wanted to ignore you but bro is there need to bring anybody's comment or screenshot to this? Are you seeking for my opinion to validate your stance here? I'm not in for any problems you have with anybody here..... For whatever that comment means, I have reservations on that. You see that jude of a boy/man, he has a different way of playing with words and he has good handwriting! I always enjoy his take especially on international politics and economy. If there is anything I hate aside being idle, its Culture especially the ones display in my state. Whoever experiences the so culture from my tribe will know that, that shit has caused more harm, segregation, pains, loss, death and injustice to the women than good. I mean, what is the benefit of tagging one awkward shit as a culture to inflict pain on someone Are you mad or stupid or both![]() I hate it when one stupid entity tells me its OUR CULTURE! That is how it's been since time immemorial by our forefathers! Oh! Spare me that gilberish!!! such a wicked forefather that could not think of better thing as culture than killing? That concept- Culture, is an illusion, I mean, it's never exist, It's a human design, it's a human construct to show their societal characters to us. They just tacitly add language in their definitions. When I did that course in 100 level,( Nigeria people and their culture) I nearly cried. Thank God I managed to pass it. I cannot see myself studying shits that is not adding up nor is it making sense. |

reccy:As to your first point, I don't have a problem with anyone. I was making a point about tribalism and I gave you an example of one of it's downsides or negatives. I was highlighting how tribalism breeds unnecessary division and disharmony. Further more, let's even suppose that I have a problem with the individual, does it still take away from the message passed? Does the messenger have anything to do with the substance of the message? Let's say you have an enemy who you hate Soo much, if that enemy of yours brought a message of warning that perhaps someone poisoned your food which you were about eating, will your hatred of the messenger make you not take his warning and act accordingly?? In short, does my "supposed problem" with dayo have anything to do with the fact that he engaged in extreme hateful rhetorics and warmongering while being 10000 kilometers away from the problem? As to your second point, seems we both agree with each other, tribalism should be eliminated as soon as possible. Tribal identities are completely useless and even inimical to our modern society. I know of an old Igbo class mate of mine in uni who had a long standing relationship with his babe who was a gbagi girl. Gbagi is a minority tribe around abuja and niger state, because of their religious and tribal differences, the parents forbade and rejected the marriage. Tribalism is terrible. |

raumdeuter:Unfortunately man, you set yourself up to be the epitome of all that is wrong with our society. Your post's which depict a begrudging hate towards an entire group of people will continue to be used as an example of what people shouldn't be. A good and successful person would never ever ever say these things.
