they are planning to kickstart a cashless base policy , and for it to work they will have to take back the money already in saculation , don't be surprised no one will be able to withdraw More than 5 million in cash from next year

I just wish they follow up the policies to the end. I hear they're going full cashless. Physical cash will be much less in circulation.

they did this because of the elections. Politicians have been stockpiling money to induce voters with. This redesign will make their stockpile useless. That's why they didn't give anyone any clue, but just came suddenly to announce it and give only 3 months to everyone to change their funds. No bank will give out billions of naira in cash to anybody on such short notice. The bank might fold. Also, FG forced a maximum withdrawal rate on banks. I think the whole thing is targeted at tinubu
Let's believe so and wait to see the ripple effect of the researching of the naira notes

So you don't know the purpose?
Okay lemme assume you're serious.
In simple terms, some people have pack money and keep in their houses and are not using it, making naira to be less in circulations and life more difficult.
So now that it's redesigned,
They have two options,
1. To bring it out and it will circulate
2. The keep it and it will be useless.
Cus the new naira note will replace the old one in there houses.ie even if 1billion is in someone's possession, cbn will print another 1billion to replace that one at the end of the deadline
Hope i did not confuse but convince with the above point of mine

How does people keeping money in their houses and are not using it, make naira to be less in circulations and life more difficult?

Did cbn ever say how much new naira notes they will print or did they say the new naira notes they will print is dependent on those people keep in their homes?

This doesn't stop them from relooting...the problem is with the system not the people!!! Put a system in place for proper actions against looting n watch how economic policies will work.

They cannot reloot it.

Everything depends on CBN.

They can tell everyone to switch to digital money and less note.

Yes, you are right about system though.

I think this man wants to deal with some politicians who have stockpiled the old naira notes for the purpose of election. Majority of the money in the system left the banks long time ago, being hoarded by some bastards for their selfish interest. This singular move by CBN has put them all into trouble, to return the huge cash in their custody to banks becomes a problem for them, as they are being watched by EFCC, banks and the general public.

Mr. Raph82, this is the best policy from this government. I don't think they will back down because they had to wait until few months before elections to do this. They know their targets and it was the best thing to do as against printing new notes.

The looters/hoarders can't go to the bank and they can't even change to foreign currency.

I hope they go fully cashless by next year as the CBN had said.

How does redesigning naira note affect election?
Most of these politicians and some selfish individuals have been busy hoarding the notes we have in circulation for some times now. CBN's claim is that, assuming we have 5 trillion worth of naira notes in circulation, just two trillion is coming in and going out of the banks we have, and the trend has been like that for a long while now. This means 3 trillion worth of naira notes are being hoarded by some individuals who are strong & mighty in the society. To get this cash back into the banks is why this move is made.
Politicians have been the ones hoarding these notes for the upcoming election, their stronghold has to be broken. Now that they can no longer tamper with election results as a result of the new electoral law, the only option they have is to pay cash to voters on election day. This move has trapped the politicians because they are now under EFCC's watch.

The proper English is hoard,
Eg
If I'm in a position to steal public funds, you think i will keep all in a bank acct or buy property?
No sir
I will keep it somewhere more safe.
In 20 years nothing will happen to the money.
Posterity will use it. That is what I'm talking about. Not kobo kobo
