To bring in someone outside the force to overhead the police force, you will need to amend the Police Act first.

Those checkpoints are not to nab criminals, they are for extortion and the reason it's still happening is because the police top echelon cant control their officers.

PMB as the chief commander of the armed forces definitely take part of the blame.
Point of correction my brother... Buhari as the chief commander of the armed forces definitely takes all the blame not part.

What's the way out to solving this menace. To be candid, I'll support disbandment of entire police system in Nigeria, NSCDC and Military should take over for a while until new, well trained personnel are brought on board.

System need complete overhaul from top to bottom..... sack dem all and bring new faces, preferably graduates with at least Ordinary National Diploma.

Umuahia to Okigwe is a journey of 30 minutes max. But you can spend up to 1 hour or 75 minutes on the road because there are at least 10 checkpoints there.

From Okigwe to Uturu where my alma mater is be like 15 minutes, but there are like 7 checkpoints on that road, yet early this year they were abducting entire buses on that short road. Abegi
Bros calm down abeg.

The buck stops at the President table. This failure is definitely on him.

In my other post, I'm talking about the technical advisers who are the oil & gas technocrats that should normally be the one drafting policies and directions for the President to consider.
Absolutely, especially for that sector of the economy. For nearly 8 years now, PMB has not shown he has the basic knowledge of what is going on in that sector, worth more the technical aspects of managing that sector.
Are we even assured PMB understands policies presented to him by these advisers? Enough to question it’s components? I have argued in the past that PMB lacks the core competencies of leadership in a democracy and I stand by it.

The military itself is already overstretched because they are doing the work of the police for them un some states.

Another thing is the Nigerian mentality. Give a Nigerian small power and see how he will oppress his fellow citizens. Now add the power of the gun to it. That's the scenario we are in.

Those who we are paying tax payers money should do their damn job and finding solution to this mess. angry

PH to Aba or Owerri has lots of checkpoints, also PH to Umuahia, using Eche route. I think you’re simply used to these checkpoints enough to feel it’s the same from Umuahia to Okigwe.

The same people will find their way back to any reformed force. Until we put a ton of pressure on their bosses, there will be no change. Their respective bosses should suffer serious consequences when their command is found to be putting up check points.

The problem is a lack of accountability. We have seen numerous IGs tell us check points/ stop and searches are illegals but some how they continue to happen. Until the IG through his AIGs put pressure and seriously punish erring officers then nothing will change even if you hire Ph.D. holders as constables .

PMB is not new to the oil & gas sector.

His policies has largely work as we have stable oil distributions without the frequent fuel scarcity for the larger part of his administration before the queue resurface last year December. It was since then that the matter has deteriorated to this moment.

They have been punishing and they will continue to punish them but these officers are largely out of control. Na who camera catch them dey sacrifice. Their bosses are in on their excesses, they are part of the system and they climb the ladder up with the same system, nothing will happen.

You are being generous here. There has been fuel scarcity every year since 2015 when Buhari became president, except for 2018 I think.

I agree with you. The problem is from the top and must be addressed from the top. From DIG to IG levels.... they're simply using the positions to plan and make money for retirement.

I think Police Act or whatever it is should be amended and make Positions from DIG to IG political appointments like EFCC and NDLEA. It will be easier to sack an Appointee performing below average without public outcry.

They are punishing the constables who are out enforcing the check points versus their direct superior who is aware his unit has mounted checkpoints. Demote their superiors or derobe them den we will see some changes.

This level of insatiable greed is punishing the same people it is supposed to protect.

We are punishing constables who mount road blocks but their Oga who is aware goes scot-free. By the time you demote 3 superiors or flat out kick them out of the force then you will see serious supervision.

There is absolutely no way a superintendent is unaware. People living in the community where these checkpoints are mounted are definitely telling him about the checkpoints if he is pretending he is not getting the monies..

I think these people are the reason the west are pushing this LGBT agenda aggressively. I have always suspected that there are some powerful individuals in government influencing this movements.

The next one is kuku in US and Canada. So I would advice the rest of the world to carry their rainbows and bongos along. Cos them fit tell you say if you no wear rainbow you no fit enter stadium grin
