FreshFarmAgro:Nice critiquing though without substance. 1. There has always been oil in the north, in commercial quantity. If you read the article with an open mind, you would have seen where he talked about oil in the region of 19b barrels, which is almost half of what the delta region boasts of, including deep offshore wells. 2. The oil been talked about in the inland basins as at this time is still prospect, meaning more oil could be found. Besides, the chad basin is also been explored and other parts of the Benue trough so building a refinery is not bad decision, if oil exploration continues, more refineries may even be needed. |

ContinuousTortu:North has been doom that's why the Br:itish joined north and south Nigeria together in 1914 because the North always had deficit balance of trade. |

mecuries:Seriously? ![]() So, literally the north should stay as a peasant farming region whose youth are condemned to always wait for the south before any economic uplift? And then take the insult of being a parasite even when they have the same resources and even more than the south? Some of you guys are beyond pathetic. |

ItsTutsi:My opinion, uptill this moment, those places are termed OPL, oil is still being sought, the license has to be converted to OML and then put the necessary infrastructure in place. The oil won't be transported outright, the plan is for a refinery, a gas plant, power plant and gas plant, this may take more than a decade for everything to fall in place depending on the seriousness of people overseeing it. Though with PIA, the road is a bit clear for investors now and there is more room for NNPC and NUPRC to oversee investment and regulate properly. The north needs to now double down on such projects especially this one, and give room for private investors to come in, if they keep on waiting for nnpc it may take years and may even become a political tool( do small investments overtime and negotiate completion of a part on political patronage), and this is where Atiku comes in, liberalize the O&G sector so that private investors can put in money and grow things at astronomical rates. |

Franking:Separate? Black men in Nigeria have no head to understand that even if we bring all the oil in Kuwait, Libya, Saudi Arabia to Nigeria, the country Nigeria cannot thrive, because Nigeria is like bringing Israel, Syria, Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey together as one country. In Europe that created African countries, hardly any European country is of more than one ethno-religious group. |
| Re: Now That The North Has Found Oil By Simon Kolawole by Raheeqilmaktoom: 12:16pm On Nov 28, 2022 |
FreshFarmAgro:Go through reports of all technical persons, from NNPC GMD and project overseers, what they say is 1 billion barrels with prospect of more find. Assuming there is 1 barrels, exploration is continuing in the same basin, Adamawa and chad basins which are still very near, so building of refinery is justified. |

codemaniacs:Kano was commerce centre for like 300 years before ty British berthed on the shores of Nigeria. The trans sahara trade route made Kano and other northern towns commercial centres. |

Raheeqilmaktoom:Oga, stop arguing with noon-factual reports Oil had been in north from time immermorial but not in good quantity They blew up close to a trillion on this because it's not nothern money. When nigeria splits, they wont do such Stop arguing on concerns bigger than you |
| Re: Now That The North Has Found Oil By Simon Kolawole by codemaniacs: 12:23pm On Nov 28, 2022 |
Raheeqilmaktoom:That's the story your people told you.. if there ever was any commerce center in the entire North then the b:ritish would have developed that section of the North. There was never ever a "trans Sahara trade route".. any story that talks about such is a scam and fake. |
| Re: Now That The North Has Found Oil By Simon Kolawole by Raheeqilmaktoom: 12:25pm On Nov 28, 2022 |
FreshFarmAgro:1. Any reference? Telling me stop arguing with facts when I provide you references and then going ahead to provide your own facts from your mind. Lol. You are consumed by envy and jealousy, part of the team that believe the north should not have oil. Saudi, the biggest exporter of oil in the world is a desert, Chad and Niger have been exporters of crude for over 2 decades and they are arid and desert places, yet the north should not have oil because na your papa dey dash am? |

codemaniacs:Says someone who has no history, the British found you guys living a lil different than animals and you have the effontry to think everyone had your reality? I understand its difficult for you to accept that the north you love to hate was a commercial centre and was engaging in diplomatic missions as far as Arab world before you knew to even go beyond your forests you think were the demarcation between the world and the afterlife. ![]() |

Raheeqilmaktoom:North was not doing anything don't let fake stories fool you. If north had the things you claim then they wouldn't have negative balance of trade every year. |

Then I don't see the hype behind it if according to what you said is true, it could be another white elephant project for politicking.. it will probably be abandoned Raheeqilmaktoom: |
| Re: Now That The North Has Found Oil By Simon Kolawole by Raheeqilmaktoom: 2:27pm On Nov 28, 2022 |
ItsTutsi:As long as its NNPC that will do everything, yes. Private investors need to come in to make the project meaningful. Imagine the Dangote refinery being built by the govt, it will be abandoned before it reaches 25%. A certain people view importation as their lifeline thus the refinery will be bad business for them, some look at crude as a going commodity and then the cost of $25b in a country of mutual suspicion and people with crab mentality. We have already seen enough opposition from the other side, just failing short of saying the north should not explore oil because it does not suit us, what do you expect when the govt also has to provide the funding and all. The only thing that brought this project thus far is Buhari's will, he has been called names for daring to explore oil in the north, what happens after he is gone with people who are only interested in the north's electoral figures in power? |

If you read all of that, you’re an idiot Nairalander who will forever remain broke. I skimmed through and want ten minutes of my life back. Oil in the north is good news to every Nigerian via bragging rights. Celebrating over it is a stretch because the resource has not benefitted the average man in any way over the years. This discovery will prove the same. High brow locales in the region may see improvement, however I won’t hold my breath. |

ItsTutsi:Essentially, the infrastructure for upstream activities (and oil production in particular) take a significant time to establish and payment of derivation is based on actual production so it is not automatic. |
